Episode 679 of It's Bizzy
How much of your life have you spent worrying about things that worked out anyway?
Today is my 58th birthday. A year ago, on my 57th, I was crying, scared, and angry because nothing looked like the picture in my head. One year later, I'm calmer than I've ever been. What changed? I stopped trying to direct the movie and started writing my plans in pencil, not pen.
In this birthday episode, I finally answer the question I ask every guest: what do I wish I knew at 25?
We also talk about:
• Why feelings aren't facts, and how to stop reacting to every one of them
• How to let go of control when life doesn't look the way you pictured
• Why pain is the touchstone to freedom
• People who come into your life for a season and leave for a reason
• My morning ritual: feet in the ocean, the sunrise, a Psalm, and a prayer
• Why gratitude is the best attitude and comparison is the thief of joy
I also share what happened when the club we planned to go dancing at for my birthday was closed, and how that tiny moment taught me a big lesson about rolling with life.
What do YOU wish you knew at 25? Email me at [email protected]. I'd love to hear it.
🎁 The best birthday gift you could give me is to share this episode with a friend or leave a review. 💛
Coming Thursday: my lifelong friend from St. Louis, Michael Goessling, who just discovered that Michael McDonald is his biological father.
If you're going through a major life transition, starting over, redefining yourself, dealing with family changes, or wondering who you are becoming in this next chapter, this episode is for you.
Sometimes life gets lifey. Sometimes all we can do is take it one moment at a time, let go of what we cannot control, and trust that God has us.

Nobody wants to talk about it. So we're talking about it.
Jeremy Lipkowitz was on track for a PhD in genetics at Duke. He was also addicted to porn, an hour a night, every night, since college. At 23 he looked down the road and didn't like who he saw. So he went looking for happiness, found meditation, traveled to India, trained as a Buddhist monk in Myanmar, and walked away from his PhD to teach people how to train their minds.
Today he helps high-achieving men break free from porn addiction, and this conversation got real. We talk about:
As a recovery coach who's 20 years sober, I felt this one. Addiction is addiction. And shame keeps us sick.
Sometimes life gets lifey. Sometimes all we can do is take it one moment at a time, let go of what we cannot control, and trust that God has us.

Do you ever wake up and wonder how many you had last night? What you said? Why you did it again when you swore you wouldn't? You're not at rock bottom. But you're not okay either.
I'm 20 years sober and I've been coaching since 2013, and today I'm talking about gray-area drinking, that big middle nobody talks about. I share my own story (including the wine glass that holds an entire bottle, wink wink) and five signs it might be time to take a look:
1. You have rules about your drinking
2. You drink to take the edge off
3. You think about it more than you want to
4. You dread going somewhere without alcohol
5. You've Googled "am I an alcoholic?"
Then I invite you to join me for a 30-day experiment: no drinking from October 1 to October 30. Journal every night, notice how you feel, bring your own drink of choice to parties, and tell one person. You can tell me! Email [email protected]. I'll write you right back.
You're not crazy. You're just ready.

Episode 676 of It's Bizzy
What happens when the life that looks glamorous from the outside is quietly falling apart on the inside?
My guest today is Paul Drayton, actor and author of the memoir Ride or Die Trying: A Life Before, During, and After Laughter. Paul was raised in Sunderland in the northeast of England, built a life in London, and became widely known through his marriage to British comedian Alan Carr. Behind the public image, he was struggling with alcohol dependency, anxiety, and people-pleasing. At 50, an ADHD diagnosis changed the way he saw his past and the choices he'd made.
In this honest, funny, and deeply human conversation, Paul and I talk about:
We finish with my fun questions, and Paul's answer to "Life is too short to..." is one you'll want to hear.
Paul's message is simple: you can get through whatever you're facing without drinking on it, and it is never too late to start again.

Episode 675 of It's Bizzy
When the world feels overwhelming, it's easy to live in anxiety and fear. But faith and fear can't live in the same moment, and we get to choose which one we feed.
In this episode, I share a simple exercise I heard from someone in a 12-step meeting: look back over your life and write down the good things that happened that you never saw coming. Even five years' worth will surprise you. I talk about how this practice helps me trust God, quiet anxiety, and stay grounded after 20 years of sobriety.
We also talk about:
I also share the story of my pink bungalow by the sea, a prayer that took years to be answered.

In Episode 674 of It’s Bizzy, I sit down with Dr. Amelia Scott Barrett, a board-certified neurologist, Stanford-trained physician, TEDx speaker, and founder of Migraine Relief Code. Dr. Barrett is also the author of Decode Your Migraine, a book focused on helping people better understand the biology behind migraine and explore more personalized solutions.
Migraines are not just headaches—and for many people, they can completely disrupt work, relationships, sleep, and everyday life.
I have a personal connection to this topic. I experienced migraines when I was younger, and my sister has dealt with debilitating migraines for years, so I wanted to understand why migraines happen, why they can be so difficult to treat, and what people can do when they feel like they have tried everything.
Dr. Barrett explains why a migraine is never really “just a headache,” what may be happening beneath the surface, and why she believes looking at root causes can be so important.
We talk about:
· Common migraine root causes and contributing factors
· Genetics and precision medicine
· Hormones and migraine
· Nutrient deficiencies
· Gut health and inflammation
· Food sensitivities and migraine triggers
· Alcohol and its effect on sleep and the brain
· Hydration and electrolytes
· Environmental toxins and plastics
· Why triggers may not be the whole story
· When it is time to see a neurologist
· New developments in migraine treatment
· What to do when you feel like nothing has worked
Dr. Barrett also shares her “bucket” analogy for understanding migraine triggers and explains why building resilience in the body may be more useful than simply trying to avoid one trigger after another.
If you or someone you love lives with migraine, this conversation offers a different way of thinking about what may be driving the symptoms and where to begin looking for answers.

In Episode 673 of It’s Bizzy, I’m talking about what it felt like to go home after being away for more than five years.
I returned to the place where I raised my children and spent more than two decades of my life, and I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I was nervous about the people I might see, the memories that might surface, and whether going back would bring up old versions of myself.
But what surprised me most was realizing just how much I had changed.
In this solo episode, I talk about family, grief, sobriety, faith, reinvention, and learning that we don’t have to react the way we once did. I share what it felt like to return to familiar places without falling back into old patterns, and why finding peace within yourself can change the way you experience everything around you.
We talk about people-pleasing, fear of judgment, learning to walk away from conflict, becoming more comfortable with who you are, and accepting that you may never be able to go back to the life you once had.
Maybe going home isn’t about returning to who you were.
Maybe it’s about realizing how far you’ve come.
If you’re going through a major life transition, starting over, redefining yourself, dealing with family changes, or wondering who you are becoming in this next chapter, this episode is for you.

In Episode 672 of It’s Bizzy, I sit down with award-winning author, speaker, former Fortune 50 executive, Navy veteran, and Passion Struck podcast host John R. Miles for a conversation about something I think so many of us are struggling with today: Do I matter?
John is the author of the upcoming book The Mattering Effect: Creating a Life of Meaning and Worth, and we talk about what happens when our identity becomes wrapped up in our titles, careers, money, accomplishments, productivity, and what other people think of us.
John opens up about reaching a point in his own successful career when he began asking himself whether anyone would even notice if he were gone. Despite the titles and accomplishments, he realized that work had taken priority over his relationships, physical health, mental health, and the parts of life that actually mattered most.
We talk about burnout, loneliness, feeling invisible, self-worth, faith, sobriety, and why learning to matter to yourself has to come before expecting someone else to make you feel valuable.
John also walks us through his MATTER framework—Meaning, Autonomy, Trust, Time, Energy, and Reciprocity—and how each of these areas can help us create a life that feels more connected, meaningful, and whole.
And, of course, we talk about God.
John shares how a Bible study helped him realize that the path he was on was not the path he believed God intended for him, and how that realization eventually led him toward helping people who feel lonely, burned out, disconnected, and forgotten.
This conversation really made me think about how often we ask ourselves, “What am I accomplishing?” instead of asking, “Do I believe I matter simply because I am here?”
John’s new book, The Mattering Effect: Creating a Life of Meaning and Worth, will be available October 6, 2026.
If you have ever felt invisible, burned out, lost in your career, disconnected from yourself, or wondered whether you are enough without all of your accomplishments, I think you’re going to love this conversation.

In Episode 671 of It’s Bizzy, I sit down with transformational career coach, author, speaker, and former Google Marketing Lead Brooke Taylor for a conversation about success, burnout, sobriety, faith, and what happens when we begin tying our worth to what we accomplish.
Brooke is the creator of the “Success Wound™,” the idea that so many high achievers begin to believe they are only as valuable as what they produce, achieve, or accomplish.
We talk about Brooke’s own journey from working at Google to getting sober at 24, and how recovery helped her begin looking at ambition, achievement, and success in an entirely different way.
We also talk about burnout, people-pleasing, perfectionism, workaholism, comparison, faith, and that constant feeling of “I should be doing more.”
One of the things I loved most about this conversation is Brooke’s reminder that ambition itself isn’t the problem. The question is: where is it coming from?
Are we chasing success because it genuinely matters to us, or because we’re hoping the next achievement will finally make us feel like we are enough?
This is such an interesting conversation for anyone who has ever worked hard, accomplished the thing they thought would make them happy, and then wondered… now what?
Sometimes life gets lifey. Sometimes all we can do is take it one moment at a time, let go of what we cannot control, and trust that God has us.

In Episode 670 of It’s Bizzy, I’m sharing something deeply personal: the unexpected loss of my younger brother.
Out of respect for my family, I’m not going into the circumstances surrounding his death. Instead, I want to talk about grief — especially complicated grief, family relationships, loss, faith, and what it feels like when your emotions don’t look the way you think they’re supposed to.
I haven’t cried the way I expected to. I’ve continued working. I’ve been writing. I’ve been praying. And I’ve been learning, once again, how powerless I am over so many things in life.
In this episode, I talk about my relationship with my brother, remembering the good instead of only the difficult parts, processing loss in my own way, and trusting God when I cannot understand or control what is happening.
I also share how sobriety has taught me to sit with uncomfortable feelings instead of running from them, and why I believe there is no “right” way to grieve.
If you’ve ever lost someone you loved — especially someone with whom you had a complicated relationship — I hope this episode reminds you that you are allowed to feel whatever you feel.
Sometimes life gets lifey. Sometimes all we can do is take it one moment at a time, let go of what we cannot control, and trust that God has us.
