Period bloating is a common and often frustrating symptom of Premenstrual Syndrome (aka PMS). It's that uncomfortable, swollen feeling that makes your jeans feel a bit too tight and leaves you longing for your comfiest pair of yoga pants. It may even make you feel like you've had weight gain come out of nowhere, even though you haven't, and it can be accompanied by other symptoms like PMS cramps, PMS headaches, and mood swings.

But the good news? You don't have to accept period bloating as an inevitable part of your menstrual cycle. On today's episode, Cody has invited guest Nicki Williams to the conversation about the importance of aging gracefully and how fitness and food intake play a crucial role in this process.

Amy, a qualified pharmacist and fitness expert, believes that about 90% of aging gracefully comes down to our choices regarding fitness and nutrition. While both fitness and nutrition are important, Amy suggests that nutrition holds a more significant impact, accounting for about 80% of the equation. Fitness, on the other hand, is like the cherry on top. As we age, preserving and building muscle becomes crucial for maintaining independence and avoiding the need for assisted living. Amy highlights the importance of incorporating regular exercise and focusing on muscle-building to age backward and lead healthier lives.

Did you know that the birth rate is falling in many countries, and around a third of couples have some kind of trouble conceiving. So what’s causing this decline? Is it really down to rogue chemicals wreaking havoc with our hormones? And how worried should we be?

Endocrine disrupting chemicals can lead to many different reproductive health and fertility issues, as well as other forms of health issues. As is talked about in this episode, EDCs can contribute to endometriosis, they can worsen symptoms of PCOS, and they absolutely negatively impact male fertility as well.

Endocrine disruptors are found in what seems like everything — they are in the plastic bottles we drink from, in our favorite cosmetics, and in the cleaning products that promise a sparkling home. They're more common than we are aware of and what we'd like to believe.

Immersing ourselves into very cold or nearly freezing water might be the absolute last thing any of us would ever choose to do, but it can be worth it — considering it's a habit that's linked to many health benefits, such as a boost in metabolism and circulation and it can significantly reduce pain and inflammation in the body. 

Because of the benefits and after many years of implementing it into her own wellness routine, Cody encourages most everyone to take advantage of it. But, as she encourages us to try cold-plunging, she also shares how to make the most of the benefits and how to avoid the disadvantages that affect us as women. There are special considerations to keep in mind for us, because of our unique hormonal cycles and our reproductive health.

If we can understand how to integrate cold plunges into our monthly menstrual cycle we can maximize the benefits and avoid potential drawbacks, things like worsened cramps, for example.

You probably know serotonin best as the “happy molecule,” but how exactly is it linked to our mood? This hormone plays a role in digestion, sleep, memory, and more but is best known for its impact on regulating happiness, anxiety, and mood.

Low serotonin levels in the brain can lead to symptoms of depression, so understanding this powerful hormone is critical in protecting our mental health.

In this episode, Cody and her guest Jen St. Clair explore the root causes of low serotonin, and how it is connected to mood disorders. They also talk about how important it is to take a deep look into your health history to see all that can be contributing. Jen shares her story of how she overcame severe depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and addiction naturally. She shares how she thought she was going to be on medications for the rest of her life. Her life was changed when she learned how to address nutritional deficiencies, rebuild her gut health and work on her mindset.

Low estrogen levels can be the cause of hot flashes, missing periods, vaginal dryness, joint pain, and many other symptoms. In this episode, Cody talks about the cause of low estrogen, so that we can make sure we are getting the right treatment.

Low estrogen is most often associated with menopause, but it can happen throughout your lifetime due to lots of factors. Sometimes, the signs and symptoms of low estrogen are subtle and so they get passed off as other possible causes, so knowing what to look for can make it easier for each of us ladies to get the support we need to feel better.

We all have different sex drives, so what’s “normal” for you may not be for your best friend. Sexual desire can change daily, weekly, monthly, or even hourly.

Sexual desire is complex, and what turns you on is so individualized. Add stress, sleep disruption, and feeling connected to a partner in the mix, and there’s no single predictor of desire for anyone. But one thing is clear: your sex hormones play a huge role in helping—or keeping you from—getting in the mood.

Given that sex hormones shift throughout your cycle, it’s no wonder there are certain times of the month when you may feel more easily turned on and other times when your libido feels flatlined. On today’s episode, Cody shares with us, all we need to know about sexual desire, the menstrual cycle, and how our hormones influence both.

On today's episode, Cody introduces us to her personal Health Practitioner, Jason Hone, MSN, APRN, C-FNP. Together they go in depth on how to feel empowered in the doctors office. They want us to know what questions to ask our practitioner, and what tests are available to ask about. Jason also shares some protocols he guides his patients through to support certain health conditions.
