    Part 3 of the series

James: James Schramko here. Welcome back to SuperFastBusiness.com. This is the second episode in our Website Tune-Up Series with Dave Wooding from RecommendWP.com. Welcome Dave.

Dave: Hey James! Thanks for having me back. It's a pleasure.

James: Dave, in the first episode, we got some great comments where we were helping people tune up their broken website. We talked about checking for it to be working with a mobile phone, we tested the hosting, we had a look at how the design looks and if we've got a Frankenstein on our hands, we talked about broken themes, and speeding up sites, and making images the right size. All of these things that the team at RecommendWP.com specialize in.

Today, we're going to go beyond that. We assume now that we fixed up our website. We're going to talk about the next level of questions that you get asked all the time as a WordPress development specialist, and we'll see if we can hand out some tips here to help the person who has a website and maybe they're not aware of some of the things they could do to go beyond the basics. So are you ready for this one?

    Dave: I am. Let's go.

James: Let's start with one of the most basic things of all. We've got this website. It works on a mobile. It loads well. The images are good. It's not broken. It's all working fine. Let's think about websites here. The whole point of a website is it's where your content lives. Content is an overused term these days. I put out a whole course on it called OwnTheRacecourse, teaching people to put stuff on their own website. We know we can go there and we start with our first post. We can add some text and paste it.

I guess one step even before that, why is content important for a website?

    Why is content important?

Dave: Yeah. Well you know, if you're selling anything, you've got to have information on your site that describes what you do, what you provide, what value you're offering. I think of content, it's not just the text that you have, the words there, but also the images, videos, any kind of download information. That type of stuff is important to be on your site so that people who do come to your site get an idea of what you offer and you've got it there or it's readily available. It's kind of a no-brainer. It would be like, if you didn't have content, it would be like having a shopping store, you open the door and there's nothing in there.

James: It seems like a lot of people do run websites with limited content. So the first thing is you should have a schedule to add content on...

James: James Schramko here. Welcome back to SuperFastBusiness.com. In fact today, I have a very special guest, someone who I've been friends with online for a decade now. Welcome my good friend, Dave Wooding.

Dave: James, thank you very much. It's a pleasure to be here.

James: Now you're not known for doing podcasts that often. So I consider it a huge privilege that you're coming to share your genius with us in this Website Tune-Up Series. This is a three-part series. The goal of this is to approach this from the perspective of where we need to be with our website.

In this series, we're going to cover some of the things that people often come to your service with your services called RecommendWP. It's a website development company that I used to own actually. A great team, and you took it over, and they're doing great work. They've built thousands of websites.

So we're going to cover some of the things that people come to you with that's broken. That will be the first episode. The second episode, we're going to go beyond basics. We're going to look at how you can start getting better results from your website. And the third part will be the website supercharge. This is the advanced ninja level, black belt type stuff that you really want to be getting going with your website to extract the best from it.

So that's what we've got in store for this three-part series. Dave, are you ready to get down to business?

    Dave: Yes, I am.

James: OK. So when we had a look at all of the support queries and the types of jobs that the team over at RecommendWP have been doing, one of the things that's been coming up a lot is people are presenting non-mobile friendly websites to you and asking for help. So let's first of cover, why is it so important that our website works on mobile?

    Why have a mobile-friendly website?

Dave: Yeah. Mobile is probably the biggest issue we see for people that just show up and need to get facts. And really it's because most people nowadays are viewing your website on a mobile device. So if your site is not showing up properly, it's not rendering, or anything like that, it's definitely an issue. Also, if you want to have advertising where you send people to your site or even SEO, having a site that's mobile-friendly is very important.

James: Right. So what can we do to check if our site works on a mobile?

Where to check if your site is mobile-friendly

Dave: Well the easy thing of course is simply load it up on your phone and hopefully it's obvious.

James: James Schramko here, welcome back to SuperFastBusiness.com. Today, we're going to be talking about the perfect day formula, with Craig Ballantyne. Welcome to the call.

Craig: Hey, James, good to speak with you again.

James: You know, we did an audio podcast many, many years ago when you were running around with a fit body, and I assume you still have a fit body.

Craig: Yeah. It's an older one.

James: You started this movement called turbulence training, and I think the whole idea was that you could do exercise in short impact bursts and you didn't really need a lot of equipment, which is pretty mind-blowing, when you think about it.

Craig: Yeah, it's a lot different from the way most people think, but as you know, James, it's all about thinking different in order to get ahead.

James: Yeah, and you've gone on and you've had a lot of success in your own business, you are now the chief editor of Early To Rise, you've been doing that for a while, and influencing a lot of people with your thoughts, especially around wealth and health, and those type of topics, and you've now just published a book, and I think a kit, called The Perfect Day Formula, and that's what we're going to talk about today.

Craig: Yeah, it's going to be good.

    Why the book?

James: So why did you decide to do a book?

Craig: Well, it's something that I've been working on for a long time, so it's funny, we were just speaking about how quickly you read through it, but the book that I actually submitted to my editor was 300 pages, and then he sent me back something that was 110, so he really cut out a ton of stuff.

I spent way too long working on it, but it's really a combination of everything that I've learned and applied to my life, everything that has helped me become more productive and successful, and everything that I see a lot of people struggling with. And what I wanted to do was show people how to get more out of their day, how to overcome that feeling of anxiety that they have at the end of a day when they feel like a day has disappeared from them without getting ahead. And so we've really focused it on that and put together these 3 little secrets that are in the book, that help you with your morning, your afternoon and your evening so that you just really can live the life of your dreams, which I believe most people can.

James: Right. And you believe that most people aren't at the moment?

Craig: Oh, I think a lot of people have a lot of frustrations with what's going on right now.

Ezra: What we've been doing is just going over the experience of being at SuperFastBusiness 11, kind of what happened, what each speaker talked about, a little bit of a recap.

James: Yeah, so if you were thinking of coming to the next one, number 12, in Manly next year, whenever you're watching...

    Ezra: When is that one?

    James: It's on March 16 and 17th.

    Ezra: March.

James: Yeah, March. Then you'll get a feel for what it's like. All the videos are being loaded inside SuperFastBusiness membership, you can watch every one of them, they're amazing, they're fully transcribed, and you get the audio version as well. They're all being uploaded over the next few weeks.

So, Matthew Kimberley talked about booking yourself solid.

    A question of outfit

Ezra: Matthew Kimberley was dressed really sharply, I thought, I was like, I'm a fan of presentation, you know, of really being deliberate about how you come off and stuff, as you can tell, right? (Laughs)

James: He had a little waistcoat...

Ezra: I thought he was great, man, I thought he really presented well.

James: I think it's good to be comfortable.

    Ezra: Yeah, I agree.

James: Whatever you want to wear is fine. If I got up in a suit...

    Ezra: It's to be deliberate.

James: Yeah. If I got up in a suit, my audience are going to say...

Ezra: You know, you're not a suit guy.

    James: ..."Who are you kidding?"

Ezra: You're not a suit guy.

    James: Used to be.

    Ezra: Yeah.

James: I've worn enough suits. Basically, most people who like wearing suits a lot now never had a proper job. And so it's exciting.

Ezra: I scooped ice cream for a while.

James: Right. But I wore suits from the time I was like, 10...

    Ezra: I hear you.

James: ...through to like, 8 years ago.

Ezra: I was never forced to wear a suit.

James: No. I was forced to wear suits for decades, so I've had my suits.

Anyway, the thing I liked most...

Ezra: We ought to try: Audience,

Ezra: Yeah. This is sort of like, let's just clean it up, let's cover everything else that was talked about at the event, bring it to a close.

James: Yup. And mostly because the surf is so damn good today.

Ezra: I want to get out there.

James: Really. We’ll have to take this screenshot.

Ezra: I got that drone footage from Moriarty that we could put in here.

James: I've got it too. It's glassy, it's three foot, it is amazing. So, rapid fire round. Are you ready?

Ezra: I'm ready. Let's do it.

    Content marketing

James: Content marketing from Darren Rowse. You've got to know your readers.

    Ezra: Phenomenal session.

    "Change your readers."CLICK TO TWEET

James: Great presentation. The whole point was, change your reader. That should be a mission with your content marketing. Like with this content, we hope that between the beginning of this series and now, you've got some good ideas to be inspired.

Ezra: He had a graph. A/B. Where are they now? Where do you want them to go? How are you taking them there. I think it's the same thing when you're writing sales copy for a product. What is the pain they're feeling now and how does your product solve that? What are the ownership benefits? How are they going to be different once they've consumed or purchased that product?

James: And he mostly highlighted the fact that we can go deeper with our content, and we should polish and enrich our content. So we put embeds, we edit more, we think about which angles we're taking.

    Ezra: Idea phase.

James: Yeah, we inform people, we inspire people, we interact with people more. You've got to see this replay.

    Ezra: It's in SuperFastBusiness membership.

    James: It's in SuperFastBusiness membership.

Ezra: Good points on content creation if you're struggling with it. Don't try to do it all at once. Come up with your ideas in one session then start the creation and create content in another session then go back and edit in the third session.
