  • JFD Rewind Episode #2 - Dressed to Kill, The Impossible Kid, Slaughtered Vomit Dolls
With the world once again entrenched in what the ancient texts describe as a severe outbreak of Holiday Fever, it makes sense that other podcasters haven't had the time or fortitude to produce a new episode this Holiday week. And while it is true that your charming hosts are currently enjoying the holidays in a serene, secluded, secretive island retreat with absolutely no cannibals and/or zombies, unable to record a new show - they've also devised a clever approach to maintain a steady output of JFD-branded content for your listening enjoyment. Tricks like this are pretty much why those Junk Food Dinner guys are the critical darlings of the Goings On About Town editors at the New Yorker, among other places, and precisely why you've got something to listen to this week. So it's come to this: another Junk Food Dinner clip show. This week on Junk Food Dinner Rewind: a carefully curated collection of the finest musical selections, a Dad-Hattan Voicemail Segment, and three classic JFD reviews culled from the vaults. It's the perfect thing to listen to while avoiding all the members of your family this Holiday Season. First up! We're joined by Cory from the live magic trick sensation / podcasting endeavor Illogical Contraption to discuss some controversial points about Dressed to Kill from 1980. Snatched from the jaws of our Brian De Palma theme show, our hot takes here riled up the Internet like nothing since the Moldy Strawberries incident. They'll probably get you riled as well, unless you've already heard this one. Up next, we take a fresh look at the exploits of diminutive Fillipino action star extraordinaire, Weng Weng, with The Impossible Kid from 1982. We all enjoyed the little guy's big moves in his earlier film, For Y'ur Height Only, but will this sequel prove to be too repetitive? Or will the slavery-like reality of Weng Weng's real-life existence (exposed in a recent documentary) prove to be the element that sours our experience? One thing's for sure, nobody feels comfortable about any of this. Finally, what would a year in JFD history be without a summer filled with regrets? That's right, we return to the Ghoul Summer graveyard and dig up our review of Slaughtered Vomit Dolls from 2006. For reasons unknown to man, Parker Bowman thought this would be a great pick for the show. We're joined by "True Ghoul" Mike Dikk (from Kissing Contest) and "The Ghost Of" Mark Freado (from being a ghost) to try and figure out why (and stifle some vomit of our own). All this plus witty banter between friends, witty banter between Freados, zero Nerd Newsies, no week's DVD & blu-ray releases, absolute confidentiality, continued lack of police involvement, robot voices, musical interludes, sneezes, belches, gleeks and a little bit more! Direct Donloyd Here Got a movie suggestion for the show, want to give your opinion on a movie we talked about or just want to tell us we suck? Drop us a line at [email protected]. Or leave us a voicemail: 347-746-JUNK (5865). Also, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. We'll rewind the hands of Big Ben for your love and support.

  • JFD294: Krampus, Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2, Eyes Wide Shut
This week, please avoid getting run over by a reindeer as we tackle the Cult of Christmas with some Ho Ho Horror Movies and some Ho Ho Hookers (in Eyes Wide Shut). It's our final show of 2015 and the last thing we need is another raise in our podcasting insurance premiums. Happy Holidays, everyone! First up! Director Michael Dougherty follows up his 2007 ode to Halloween, Trick 'r Treat, with this creepy tale of Christmas, Krampus from 2015! Adam Scott, Toni Collette and David Koechner star in this PG-13 family comedy / horror retelling of the German fairy tale. It's got all the CGI gingerbread men of a latter day Charles Band flick, but is this holiday stocking stuffer just a lump of coal? Up next! You've seen the first Silent Night Deadly Night, which means you've already seen almost exactly 50% of the 1987 sequel Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2! This "sequel" started its life as a simple re-redit of the original film which would be passed off as a sequel, until the director was able to secure minimal funding and minimally talented actors to slap together 40 minutes of original footage. It's got all the garbage day scenes, but is this night "Silent (comma) Deadly", or is it "Silent but Deadly" (ie, farts)? Finally! Nobody sane would complain about Freado-ing this Christmas pick, because it's the final film of Stanley Kubrick's career, Eyes Wide Shut from 1999. Tom Cruise gets roped up in a secret sexy society in ritzy/dreamy New York City while dealing with wife Nicole Kidman's fantasies of infidelity. It's definitely got Christmas trees, but does this movie warrant the #TomPolitics that one of our hosts brings to the table? Don't let Scientology kill us for what we say on this episode! All this plus witty banter between friends, Nerd News, DVDs, putting the christ back in Christmas, Miley Cyrus updates, NYC subway drag queens, Star Wars Force Awakens chats, the Reagan Myth, serious accidents and sliced thumbs, Terminator talks, farts farts farts wasted dogs, German grandmothers, laughing at campy movies, finding the right key, chair dancing, continued lack of overt police involvement, sneezes, belches, gleeks and a whole lot more! • JFD293: Spring, Making Contact, Mad Foxes
It's a Christmas miracle and ol' Santa JFD is giving presents to three special boys. We've picked three listener-suggested movies this week. First up, a California slacker (Lou Taylor Pucci) travels to Italy after his parents die to find himself and falls in love with a girl with a dark secret in 2015's "Spring." Next, a kid named Joey runs afoul of a demonic dummy after his father dies in 1985's "Making Contact." The movie was originally released in Germany under the name "Joey," directed by Roland Emmerich. Finally, a middle-aged yuppie gets into an escalating tale of revenge and mayhem in "Mad Foxes." All this, plus Disney Land Chat, Star Wars Chat, Sean's advance Hateful 8 review, DVDs, nerd news, bleeps, bloops and scooby bops. • JFD292: The Editor, Late Phases, White God
As 2015 comes to a close, the guys at JFD are feverishly trying to take in all the movies they missed over the past year. And since Parker is out this week celebrating his milestone 45th birthday, we brought in the best in the biz, Mike Dikk from Kissing Contest to join us to chat about dogs, werewolves and fake Italians. Up first, the Astron 6 crew (Father's Day, Manborg) return with their latest sleazy offering, this time sending up Italian giallo film in The Editor. When cast and crew members start turning up dead on a 70's film set, the reclusive editor is the prime suspect. Plenty of goofy humor, bad dubbing and boobs and gore galore. Plus appearances by Paz de la Huerta, Udo Kier and Laurence R. Harvey. Then, a blind veteran (Nick Damici from Stake Land) is moved into a retirement community by his son (Ethan Embry) but quickly realizes there's more to worry about than the uptight old neighbors when the full moon unleashes a series of werewolf attacks in Late Phases. This one also features some great cameos like Tom Noonan, Tina Louise and Dana Ashbrook. And finally, a young Hungarian girl is sent to live with her father for a few months, but quickly realizes that her dog isn't welcomed. When her dad abandons the pooch on the side of the road, the poor mutt is forced into a life of dog-fighting. But pushed to the edge he organizes other dogs to form a full scale pup-rising and seek revenge on those who have wronged him in White God. All this plus witty banter between friends, a warning to ignore IMDB's year for these movies, songs about what Sean likes to drink, Wayne being a bully about French movies, Nerd News, Werewolf chat, Blu-rays with monster handjobs, discussion of the Garbage Pail Kids movie soundtrack on vinyl, absolute confidentiality, continued lack of overt police involvement and a whole lot more! • JFD291: PlayTime, Double Trouble, Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland
It couldn't be a weirder week here at Junk Food Dinner headquarters, but we're still prepared to deliver the cult-movie reviewing goods. First up! It's Jacques Tati's epic, 70mm French semi-silent career-ender: Playtime from 1967! This subtle exploration of the changing face of a modernized Europe is one of the few comedies ever filmed in 70mm, and nearly a whole city was built to facilitate the filming. But can Parker Bowman stomach a 2+ hour silent film? Up next! Double Trouble (1992) features that troublesome twosome, the Barbarian Twins (Peter and David Paul) as twin brothers, one a cop and one a convict, forced to work together on a case in a situation that's very Lethal and involves Weapons. Can these identical meatheads keep it together long enough to perform their lines? Or will they spend most of the movie staring at each others' groins? We'll tell ya. Finally! We return to Camp Rolling Hills (now Camp New Horizon) with Angela Baker (still Pamela Springfield) with the whole multi-ethnic stereotype gang, in Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland from 1989. She's back and killing teens, in order to show us the satirical side of slasherdom. Our review's so good, you'll be asking for s'mores. All this plus witty banter between friends, Nerd News, DVDs, Coffin-eyed Joe, No Cell Frones Required, a Retro-Pandering Round-up, Diabetes Nostalgia, Boku Juiceboxes, Chevy Chase and the human aging process, re-arranging lamps, absolute confidentiality, a cheesy curiosities, belt buckle moves, continued lack of overt police involvement, sneezes, belches, gleeks and a whole lot more! Also, Sean was totally thinking of Tombs of the Blind Dead and Not Coffin Joe in terms of those Anchor Bay releases. Blame it on the Krampus. • JFD290: 3 Dev Adam, Turkish Star Wars, Turkish Rambo
Gobble gobble, junkies! To celebrate turkey, we're celebrating Turkey! It's a pun, get it?! First up on our foreign voyage is a 1973 movie where Captain America and Santo fight a villainous Spider-Man in "3 Dev Adam" (aka 3 Mighty Men). Turkish filmmakers completely steal and misuse the classic American and Mexican characters for their own ends in this wacky crime/mafia/superhero film. Next, director Cetin Inanc not only rips off characters and plot elements and characters from Star Wars, but steals actual footage for 1982's "Dunyayi Kurtaran Adam" aka Turkish Star Wars. It's good guys vs. killer mummies, immortal wizards and cookie monsters in this one. Finally, Cetin Inanc returns to thievery in "Turkish Rambo," (1986) a movie where a strong Stallone-like soldier flexes his muscles to show the evil Iraqis who's boss. All this, plus DVDs, Nerd News, MST3K sadness and rage, post-Battle of the Tough Guys breakdowns, Smiles, emails, Dragon Music, Multiple takes, stingers, 372 772, buy our new shirt! • JFD289: Turbo Kid, Ex Machina, It Follows
As 2015 comes to a close, we take a look back at three flicks that made an impact on the world of genre filmmaking over the past year. Up first, a young man is trying to survive the post-apocalyptic wasteland of 1997 but when he teams up with an enthusiastic robot chick he finds himself at odds with an evil overlord (Michael Ironside) and his army of masked marauders in the super-retro, super-violent Turbo Kid. Next, Alex Garland spins a tale of a young bro-grammer (Domhnall Gleeson), who wins a chance to meet the genius mogul of the world's largest internet search engine (Oscar Isaac) and participate in a series of tests to determine if a newly created robot with artificial intelligence can really feel. But it quickly becomes clear that things aren't exactly what they seem in the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. And finally, a teenage girl (Maika Monroe) has sexual encounter with a strange boy who afterwards reveals that she is now cursed with an evil spirit that will follow her to the ends of the Earth until she is killed. The only way to get rid of it is to pass it to someone else via sex. Needless to say, things get sexy and spooky in It Follows from director David Robert Mitchell. All this plus witty banter between friends, Parker's continued love affair with a Nintendo tape, dream talk, a warning to be humble or else, Nerd News, Redd Foxx praise, legal advice for filmmakers, blu-rays at the nice price, disagreements about robots, songs about herpes, absolute confidentiality, continued lack of police involvement and a whole lot more! • JFD288: Fists/Clan of the White Lotus, Fear City, The Quiet Earth
This week is just one of those old fashioned post-apocalyptic, strip-teasing, groin-smashing good times as we tackle three completely random but endlessly fascinating cult films. It's a great time to be alive. First up! It's Clan of the White Lotus from 1980! This Shaw Brothers classic is a semi-sequel to Executioners from Shaolin, starring Gordon Liu and Lieh Lo in one of your classic Monk versus Eyebrows matchups. Come for the feminine fighting-fu, stay for the repeated nut kicks. Up next! Fear City is one of Abel Ferrara's lesser discussed early works, but is that a complete mistake? We'll find out as we discuss this sleazy 1984 Times Square set thriller. Starring Melanie Griffith as a stripper! Finally! New Zealand delivers a chillingly effective post-apocalyptic thriller in The Quiet Earth from 1985. A single man roams the earth following a disaster. It's sort of like I Am Legend, but with less bullshit. All this plus witty banter between friends, Nerd News, DVDs, game genie codes for Fallout 4, #bostonstrong, speculation on the weirdness of Matthew Sweetman's boners, Heath from Dallas with a Pumpkin Spice Update, your weekly Vanilla Ice recap, RIP Tom from Adelaide, old dead leather balls, Internet ponzi schemes 3000 (get money), betamax bygones be bygone, absolute confidentiality, a crippling cornucopia of crotch kicking combat, Melanie Griffith's rude titties, a post-apocalyptic kiwi, continued lack of overt police involvement, sneezes, belches, gleeks and a whole lot more! • JFD287: The Groove Tube, Kentucky Fried Movie, Prime Time
With Schlocktober over, we try to laugh in the face of winter. We talk about 3 sketch comedy movies from the 70s. First, up a psychedelic freak out called The Groove Tube from 1974. Richard Belzer and Chevy Chase show up in this movie full of dirty jokes and stoner humor. Next, Abrahams/Zucker and John Landis cut their teeth in this sketch movie full of wacky commercials, fake movies and rude titties. Kentucky Fried movie from 1977. Finally, we watch Prime Time aka American Raspberry, where the US turns chaotic after a pirate tv station pops up to show crass humor and harsh satire. All this, plus DVDs, Nerd News, Tom from Adelaide, Sean hates another classic, Parker's unwillingness to laugh, No Shave November, stingers, Stung, did we truly do it?, new T-Shirts and so much more. • JFD286: Hellions, Hack-O-Lantern (AKA Halloween Night), Spaced Invaders
Happy Halloween, Junk Food Junkies! As we sadly say goodbye to Schlocktober we celebrate with the ultimate Samhain party featuring snacks, costumes, late night movie marathons and three Halloween-themed flicks! Up first, a teenage girl (Chloe Rose from Degrassi) finds out she is pregnant on Halloween, but as she figures out how to tell her boyfriend, she is visited by some trick-r-treaters who don't want candy, they want her baby. As things become more intense and more psychedelic, Robert Patrick (the T-1000 himself) shows up to help battle terrifying tikes in Hellions from 2015 directed Bruce McDonald (Pontypool, Hardcore Logo). Next, a teenage boy is introduced to the powers of Satanism by his goofy grandpa (Hy Pyke from Slithis) and on Halloween night things really get crazy as murder, mayhem and hair metal ensues in the video store favorite Hack-O-Lantern (AKA Halloween Night) from 1988. And finally, when a group of dimwitted Martians hear a radio broadcast of Orson Welles' War of the Worlds, they mistakenly think that they are missing out on the invasion. But when they show up all they find are goofy Midwesterners celebrating Halloween in the kiddy special effects romp Spaced Invaders from 1990, featuring Ariana Richards (Jurassic Park) and Royal Dano (Killer Klowns, Ghoulies II). All this plus witty banter between creepy friends, a full Corn Gorn run-down, Spooky Nerd News, blu-rays from beyond the grave, Snax Chat, a call from the Governator, Trippy Sweetman, songs about Halloween, absolute confidentiality (if you're wearing a mask), continued lack of overt police involvement (unless you soap our windows) and a whole lot more!
