  • Building Alfred Coffee with Founder Josh Zad

In just six years, Josh Zad has built a beverage empire as the founder of LA’s cult-favorite coffee shop chain Alfred Coffee, Alfred Tea Room, and Calidad Beer. In 2013, he opened his first Alfred Coffee location with its social media-friendly catchphrase "But First, Coffee.” on the idyllic Melrose Place. Since then, Zad has successfully scaled to 16 locations across the U.S. and Japan, and has recently expanded his beverage empire with a shift to his Mexican-style beer concept – Calidad Beer. Less than one year after launch, Calidad can be found in over 900 location across Southern California, from Whole Foods to Disneyland. In this episode, Josh tells us the secret to building a brand-first business, how to overcome indecision, and his next business venture that will have people lining up in West Hollywood yet again.

  • Maggie Rogers: Artist

GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter, and performer Maggie Rogers joins us to discuss her journey from a small town singer/songwriter to global pop stardom. Just three years ago, Maggie performed her NYU senior thesis, which we now know and love as her hit song “Alaska” for Pharrell during a master class, and the video went viral. The Maryland-born artist signed with Capitol Records and has since released an EP, Now That The Light Is Fading, and last year she debuted her first record, Heard It In A Past Life. The album landed at #2 on the Billboard charts, and the record’s tour included headliner stops at Coachella and Lollapalooza, two nights at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, and a performance on SNL. She’s received praise from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR, and Vogue, was placed on the TIME 100 NEXT 2019 List, the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and just received her first GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist. Maggie’s songs have surpassed 650 million streams globally, and her music has built a cult following of loyal fans who she says if they weren't her fans, they’d be “people she’d be at the same house party as.” In this episode, Maggie talks about finding life after touring, gives us her masterclass on navigating the entertainment industry, and why her next business move might not be what we think.

The company has raised over $156 million in support and recently announced its $1.4 billion valuation.

At just 25-years-old, Christopher is one of the youngest break-out designers on the fashion scene. • Lindsay Peoples Wagner: Editor-in-Chief, Teen Vogue

At just 28-years-old, Lindsay Peoples Wagner is the youngest Editor-in-Chief at any major publication. After spending time at Teen Vogue as an intern, Style.com, and the Cut, Lindsay established her voice in the industry - tackling race, culture, and politics through fashions lens. In September 2018, she penned Everywhere and Nowhere: What it's really like to be black and work in fashion, an expose on the fashion industry with over 150 testimonials from people of color from designers, assistants, models, and more that highlighted the abuse of black culture as a marketing tool, while simultaneously rejecting black people within the industry opportunities. Now she's bringing her voice to Teen Vogue where she's leveraging her position to create space for inclusive, diverse, and important conversations for the next generation.

In this episode, we go behind the scenes of Lindsay Peoples Wagner's Teen Vogue, from some of her favorite moments, to their 3rd annual Acne Awards, to covers with talent like Serena Williams and Naomi Wadler, Millie Bobbie Brown, and Lil Nas X. We also talk about our hopes for a more inclusive fashion industry and how she's fearlessly keeping the next generation informed.
