  • Call Your Friends! Part II

Call Your Friends! is back with two new guests! In this special series, I’ve been calling some of my dear friends to see how they’re doing in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. In an effort to provide some sense of comfort and normalcy, these conversations are here to provide you with good companionship while we’re all stuck at home, and to also let you know that we're here with you through it. This week features actor and entrepreneur Patrick Shwarzenegger and Blogger and Founder of Happily Grey, Mary Lawless Lee. In this episode, we touch on bio-hacking your mind during a mentally strenuous time, ways to support your local community, some new hobbies we’ve taken up at home, and advice on how some of our friends and their businesses are being nimble during this time. Sending virtual love from my couch to yours!

  • Flowing and Growing a Yoga Empire with Y7 Founder Sarah Levey

Sarah Levey is the Co-Founder and CEO of Y7 Studio. At 26-years-old, Sarah launched Y7 as an answer to her personal desire for something other than traditional yoga. Y7 is known for its “Sweat Drippin’, Beat Bumpin’ Candlelit Yoga” - classes combine 60-minutes of intensity with infrared heat, a dark room, and strength conditioning to a playlist of today’s greatest hits from Frank Ocean to Drake. Since launching in 2013, the Y7 brand has expanded to a bicoastal business with 15 studios across New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. In 2017, Sarah was named an All-Star Entrepreneur of 2018 by Inc. Magazine and placed on the cover of its “America’s 500 Fastest Growing Companies” issue. Sarah also gets candid about her personal life and opens up about her previous miscarriages, how she and her husband and co-founder Mason have coped with loss, their marriage and business relationship, and the exciting news that they’re expecting their first baby boy in June! In this episode, Sarah and I talk about how she’s balancing it all, the highs and lows of her pregnancy journey, and how she’s built a culture and community around Y7 that’s growing and flowing across the country.

  • Living Zero Waste with Lauren Singer, Founder of Package Free Shop

She produces zero garbage - she sends nothing to landfill, nothing in a trash can, and focuses primarily on recycling and composting. At 28-years-old, she’s the founder of Trash is for Tossers, a community of over 300,000 followers where she documents her Zero Waste lifestyle in New York City. She also has a YouTube channel where she gives sustainable tips and tricks and recipes to make everyday products in the comfort of your own home. After seeing how many people wanted to get involved in zero waste, she started the Package Free, a total zero waste store that sells everything from zero waste home supplies to vibrators to baby toys. Today, the zero waste store says it has diverted over 4 million plastic straws, 3 million plastic bags and 1.5 million single-use bottles and cups from sitting in landfills. The eco-conscious company has now grown to a second location in the Chelsea Market and just secured a $4.5 million seed round with investors like Casper’s founder Neil Parikh and Scooter Braun. In this episode, Lauren and I talk about the harsh stigmas around sustainability, how she’s saving money, eating healthier, and feeling better, and how Package Free is on its way to being the largest distributor of sustainable products in the world.

  • Sheena Yaitanes: Founder, Kosas Beauty

Sheena Yaitanes is the founder of Kosas, a clean beauty brand she created in her Los Angeles home in 2015. While studying chemistry and biology at UC Irvine, Sheena found herself frustrated with a beauty industry filled with products that never felt good, healthy, or looked right on her skin. Fusing her scientific background and passion for painting, Sheena set out to create a one-of-a-kind lipstick with a strong focus on clean, non-toxic formula and shades that redefine the idea of nude for all skin tones. The brand launched with four lipstick shades, and every item had to achieve three things: look just right, be easy and straightforward in application, and act as skincare. Today, Kosas has expanded its product line to 12 lipstick shades, lip glosses, balms, makeup cases, and their cult-favorite products, the 10 Second Eyeshadow and Tinted Face Oil. Kosas is sold on Sephora, Goop, and Violet Grey, has a fan base of names like Gwyneth Paltrow and Gisele, and just closed a Series B funding round with investors like Leandra Medine and Scooter Braun. In this episode, Sheena and I talk about how she built a beauty brand from her kitchen table, where Kosas will go with the new investment, and how she wants to redefine the idea of modern beauty.
