  • Grow your own HRT with Sally Duffell

In this episode, I talk to Sally Duffell about growing and eating sprouts to manage your menopause symptoms. Her book Grow your Own HRT covers all the science of how plant hormones work in a menopausal body, she goes deep into the research, into the disadvantages and advantages of HRT from the doctor, which sprouts to grow and how to do it…. she covers the lot!

In our different ways, both Sally and I offer views of menopause that are outside the mainstream narrative and this information absolutely needs to be known: growing sprouts is cheap, well-evidenced, easy, researched, safe if you have a history of breast cancer and very effective.

    • We talk about how sprouts affect your hormones
    • How to get started without buying any special equipment and how to grow them
    • How modern diet and cosmetics cause most of our menopause ‘symptoms’
    • The latest, super-positive study on breast cancer and plant hormones
    • What to grow to support your libido
    • And how sprouts can help everyone, even those not in menopause!

    Sally's website is growyourownhrt.com
Her book Grow Your Own HRT is available at your local bookshop
You can buy organic seeds for sprouting at skysprouts.co.uk
You will find the podcast on Spotify, iTunes and all major platforms, just search for 'Life - An Inside Job'.

  • Inside plant-based eating with Kathy Davis

Next to understanding our inner worlds, food is my second favourite topic and I loved hearing from plant-based lifestyle coach and recipe developer Kathy Davis, about how to balance our hormones with plant-based food.

Kathy is the CEO of VegInspired.com and the author of three cookbooks.  She also helps people successfully transition to a plant-based way of eating that supports a fast-paced lifestyle, without requiring hours in the kitchen or added stress.

     We talked about:

    • Positive language around food
    • The messages we receive about our bodies as teenagers
    • How to be a good role model for our kids
    • How Kathy naturally moved towards a plant-based diet
    • The health benefits Kathy found from eating whole, fresh foods
    • How Kathy changed the pain she experienced in her menstrual cycle
    • Plant-based foods to eat for hormone balance
    • How to get more protein into a plant-based diet
    • All about soy and what kind to eat
    • Why broccoli will save the world
    • And a very bizarre thing to do with a turkey

  • How to handle yourself with Ron de Brito

Ron brought such a juicy topic to Inside Job, because, if we need to know anything, how to handle yourself is definitely at the top of the list.

We had a sweet, soulful conversation that covered Ron’s story, along with the approach she uses with clients who are also figuring out how to handle themselves… also known as ‘how to be human’.

She’s an Embodied Facilitator, Empowerment and Compassion Coach and Nonviolent Communication Practitioner. Which doesn’t even begin to describe what she offers, which is all heart, vulnerability and properly grounded in an acceptance of herself. Part of the gold this delivers is that she really doesn’t feel the need to fix you. That is rare.

Ron has a 6-week course starting on November 2nd which I strongly suggest you check out at rondebrito.co.uk

Here are the influences and resources Ron mentions:

  • Inside anxiety with Tricia Murray

In this episode, I explore anxiety with Anxiety and Trauma Coach Tricia Murray. It was just so sweet meeting Tricia at last, as we’d known each other through social media for years, but never actually met.  She shares tips and actionable strategies to live a happier and calmer life.

Anxiety, whether it’s a constant low-grade charge of an endless to-do list, or a completely debilitating disorder, is endemic in our society now.

For example, between 20 March and 30 March 2020, almost half (49.6%) of adults in Great Britain reported "high"  anxiety which is more than 25 million people. With 12 years experience of supporting, mentoring and coaching mums as well as co-founding a Perinatal Mental Health charity.  Tricia knows her stuff.

You can find Tricia at triciamurray.co.uk

Her free resources for anxiety are at https://triciamurray.co.uk/this-page-contains-a-list-of-absolutely-every-freebie-masterclasses-assessments-workbooks-and-guides-that-i-currently-offer/

Tricia mentioned Christine Padesky's anxiety equation and you can find out more about that at padesky.com

  • Inside menopause food with Severine Menem

I talk to nutritional therapist Severine Menem about what sort of things to eat to reduce menopause symptoms BEFORE you start taking supplements.

It’s easy to fall for the marketing when you’re in your health food shop, to grab a pill, but there are far cheaper and more effective ways of getting all the nutrients you need as Severine describes.

Severine is a menopause specialist and Health Coach for women over 40 struggling with menopause symptoms. She’s also a Menopause Trainer for corporates looking to establish menopause initiatives and support their female talents going through menopause.

As a woman in her late-40s, she totally knows what she’s talking about from the inside having reduced or got rid of her menopause symptoms and hypothyroidism, through diet and lifestyle changes.

This is literally a meaty podcast, there is steak involved, I’m sorry veggies and vegans out there, you’re going to have to wait for a little while, but don’t be too cross because I have a very special guest coming soon who’s going to tell you all about using vegan and vegetarian food for menopause.

The Berkey water filters can be found at https://berkey-waterfilters.co.uk/

  • Inside the yoga business with Kat Farrants

In this episode, Kate Farrants, founder of the phenomenally successful Movement for Modern Life explores the ethics of the yoga business and how the spiritual and material, (ie money) aspects of yoga can get along, or not!  Kat is totally honest, warm and curious as we chew on lots of questions including:

    • Can you ever make money out of being a yoga teacher?
    • Is burnout inevitable?
    • How can you be a viable teacher?
    • Is it ethical to train more and more teachers in an already saturated market?
    • What about gyms and studios underpaying teachers?
    • What about free yoga videos, does this devalue the practice?
    • How social media make yoga less diverse, less inclusive

You can find Kat at movementformodernlife.com

I'd love to hear what you think about yoga and money over on Instagram  where I'm @kate_codrington Are you being paid enough? Does free yoga devalue the teaching? Do you use video instead of a live class? Don't forget to have a look at my website where you'll find a wealth of free resources.
