What’s your ‘money story’? Are you someone who makes rash decisions with dollars? Will future-you thank you for how you manage your moolah now? Does talking about spending and saving fill you with dread? Are you even considering not listening to this FORTY ep. because it goes deep with all of this?! (Trust us, it’s an absolute ripper.)
Here's the thing; we’re grown-ups and it’s no longer cute to not be in control of your dollars and cents [see also: SENSE], and that’s where Mel Browne comes in. When Mel got divorced at 33, she was left with nothing/zilch/nada after making a retaliatory, highly emotional decision with her divorce proceedings. Oops. And here’s a surprise: Mel was an accountant!
She had to start ALL. OVER. AGAIN.
Fast forward 15 years, and the self-confessed ‘Western suburbs bogan’ is now a multi-millionaire who re-wrote her own money story. This is a must listen.
So, what happens when you take back control?
We find out in FORTY.

Mia Freedman is the voice of a generation. She’ll hate us saying that, but the Mamamia media powerhouse, founder of Lady Startup, author, podcast host, (and also the woman who gave us our start!) has had her fingers on the pulse of the female experience since her days as Cosmo’s youngest ever magazine editor. Her instinct when it comes to what women want to read, hear, watch, and talk about is borderline prophetic. Mia’s warmth and no-filter approach to conversation makes this episode of FORTY as close to a ‘cuppa with girlfriends’ as you can get. In it we talk about the grief of letting go of your growing children, the difference between the career ladder and the career lattice, why every woman entering her forties should go to therapy, and how your neck will give you a shock at one point this decade. Mia also gives us a step-by-step tutorial on how to drop the mental load once and for all, what she says no to, and why the male gaze is overrated anyway.
So, what happens when you interview the interviewer?

For nearly 20 years, Aussie comedian and regular The Project panelist Claire Hooper has made millions of people laugh and marked her humorous territory at comedy galas, festivals, corporate gigs, and television screens across the country. Over that time, she’s certainly learned a thing or two about life - and herself – and shares them in the latest episode of FORTY. Strap in for much more than Claire’s hilarious recounts of professional and personal mishaps; there’s the importance for women to talk about what they earn, overcoming health anxiety, the fear of live broadcasts, the impact of terrible jobs, and how she’s recently made a childhood dream come true.
So, what happens when you become selective in all areas of life in your 40s?
We find out in FORTY.

Beloved media personality, chef, author and mum-next-door Julie Goodwin came to public attention when she won the very first season of MasterChef Australia’s back in 2009. Julie enjoyed more than a decade of success, with a record-smashing, best-selling cookbook, multiple television and radio gigs, wearing her ‘badge of busyness’, like many of us do, with satisfaction and pride.
But in the Christmas of 2019, when she was 49 years old Julie Goodwin came crashing down.
So, what happens when you ignore life’s red flags and have to raise a white flag?

A few short years ago, 43 year-old Taryn Brumfitt’s life changed monumentally when she decided to stop hating her body.
A simple ‘before and after’ picture Taryn posted online resulted in 8000 women reaching out to share their own tales of body dissatisfaction, and that’s when her body image revelation - and revolution - started.
Now a best-selling author and director of the social-change documentary, Embrace, Taryn’s won a stack of global awards and accolades and celebrities’ support...but that’s not why she continues to push for self-love and acceptance. It’s moments like meeting a woman in her seventies who broke down crying after seeing unedited vulvas in Embrace...and feeling ‘normal’ for the first time in her life.
Many thought-provoking and freeing conversations ahead in this episode, and Taryn also opens up about finding herself suddenly single at 40+ following the end of her marriage, how she coped with being alone during 2020, and the trepidation and excitement of finding a new love.
So, what happens when you let go of past versions of yourself?

Jacqui Lambie has always stood out from the mainstream of Australian politicians. Love her or hate her, you can’t deny the woman is heartfelt and unscripted.
Jacqui is no-nonsense because that's what life has always been like for her. A working class girl from Tasmania, Jacqui takes us on her journey through the army, her enforced medical retirement following an horrendous injury, her fight to get adequate treatment from the Department of Veteran Affairs, her descent into depression, struggle to raise two kids as a single mother on welfare, her son’s ice addiction, and the roller coaster ride that is life as a politician.
It doesn't get any more real and raw than this, but somehow Jacqui weaves humour and honesty into her stories of resilience, proving her father right when he told her 'you can’t keep a bloody Lambie down'.
So, what happens when your past drives your future?
