In this edition of Locked On Capitals Dan talks about the outstanding play of Darcy Kuemper. To say the Caps were inconsistent in net last year would be an understatement. In the off season Brian Maclellan signed the biggest name goalie on the free agent market Darcy Kuemper. In his most recent outing Kuemper made 34 stops Saturday in Nashville to shut out the Predators, despite T.J. Oshie and John Carlson exiting in the first period with lower-body injuries.

“He was our best player,” Lars Eller said. “He was crucial for us. It was one of his best games of the year, for sure. He was our best penalty killer, as well. Really good game from him.”

Later in the show Dan talks about the myriad of injuries facing the Caps. Connor Brown who was signed in the off season to fill the void for Tom Wilson is now also injured. What does that mean for this Capitals team?

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about another overtime loss. This time to the Vegas Golden Knights. The good news for the Capitals is that they were still able to pick up a point in both of their overtime losses. The Capitals have got to find a way to play a complete game. Laviolette on the OT loss: "I didn't like the way we played the third period. I understand the circumstances. I understand the situation but that doesn't mean you have to like the way we played the third. I thought that we sat back..."

The Capitals have also to add another name to the long list of players out with injury. Beck Malenstyn suffered an upper-body injury using his 6-foot-3 frame to block a shot.

These injuries are good opportunities for Connor McMichael and Joe Snively to prove they belong here.

In this episode of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night. The Capitals got goals from Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome but fell 3-2 in the shootout to the red-hot Hurricanes. They didn’t leave empty-handed though, taking a point as they head back home. It wasn’t a great start for Washington, who gave up the first goal of the game for the seventh time this season.

Darcy Kuemper played well again Kuemper finished with 33 saves on 35 shots (.943 save percentage). He is looking more confident with each game and has a .922 SV% with his new club so far.

Alex Ovechkin continues to break records. Alex Ovechkin scores his fifth goal of the season on the power play to put the Capitals ahead 2-1. It marks Ovechkin's 785th career goal and his NHL record 288th career power play goal. Ovechkin is now 17 goals shy of passing Gordie Howe (801) for second place on the NHL’s all-time goals list and two goals shy of passing Howe’s mark for the most goals scored by a player with a single franchise (Howe: 786 goals with Detroit).Ovechkin's goal was also the 399th goal he’s scored on the road, which trails only Wayne Gretzky (402) for the most in NHL history.

The injuries for the Caps continue to add up. On Monday, the team announced that T.J. Oshie will be sidelined indefinitely due to a lower-body injury that he suffered Saturday night against the Preds. He stayed overnight in Nashville, per a Caps spokesman, and did not travel to Raleigh ahead of the Carolina game.

In this episode of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals defeating the Nashville Predators. It was a game that saw goals by Alex Ovechkin, Aliaksei Protas and Beck Malenstyn. Darcy Kuemper had a great game and a shoutout he made 34 saves on 34 shots.

It wasn't all good news as TJ Oshie and John Carlson both left the game with lower body injuries.

In the final segment Dan talk about the play of Aliaksei Protas and how he feels like he hasn't fully played up to his potential.

“I describe myself like, a player who can play everywhere. The coach wants to play me on the wing, I’ll play on the wing, center, center,” Protas said. “If I will need to help the team on the PK, I’ll do that. Like on the power play. Doesn’t matter for me… I’ll do whatever the coaches tell me to do. It doesn’t matter for me where I’ll play. I’ll play anywhere.”

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan is joined by Adam Stringham from Japers Rink. In this show they talk about Connor McMichael and would he be better off in Hershey if he doesn't get substantial playing time on the Caps.

Later in the show they talk about Tom Wilsons absence and the lack of an enforcer on this team which was evident in the game vs Ottawa. The Caps signed Connor Brown to fill his spot on the top line right wing, but now that he's injured who will fill that spot.

In the last segment they talk about Ovechkin's slow start and what's behind it. They then talk about Darcy and Kuemper and the netminding tandem in Washington this season. What have we seen from them so far and what can expect this season from them

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Washington Capitals performance tonight against the New Jersey Devils. Once again the Capitals got great production from their fourth line with goals from Garnet Hathaway and Nic Dowd. The fourth line also had a new addition to their line as Beck Malenstyn was inserted into the lineup and got an assist tonight.

The big story of the night was Charlie Lindgren as he made 38 saves on 41 shots. Truly a stellar night for Charlie as he made some timely and big saves. My hope for Charlie is that he gets the next start Thursday vs the Dallas Stars.

Dylan Strome had a 2-assist night and Anthony Mantha showed up on the score sheet with an assist on the Protas goal.
