Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians

Boston and New York are talking trades with the Indians. We dig into why these stories from those markets are over blown. We talk about who I would want in any such deal, and why the Red Sox seem like a particularly bad fit. We talk about Tito's continued health issues. Then we talk about the Twins a team that looks not as strong as a year ago due to injuries and regression. We look at the metrics, stats, and then just line up the teams side by side.

I take some listener mail as there was a lot after Tristan McKenzie's performance. You can listen to see if I admit failure or something else. We talk about a Mets deal after listener mail brought one up. Then we talk about the reason why this team is unlikely to move Clevinger or Plesac. We also discuss how failure might be the great uniter after this weekend and the failure of the teams starters against what has been a not great Tigers offense. Trade deadline is a week away, and we do look at the one deal that has happened so far that involved the Phillles and Red Sox.

We talk about why a return of Michael Brantley could make sense for everyone. We dig into the potential cost of such a deal. After that we extol the virtues of Shane Bieber. then we dig into statcast to see who you should fear on the Tigers, and who you should be excited to see the Indians face. then we end with some Tristan McKenzie talk as he will make his debut over the weekend. I may not be his biggest fan, but look forward to him proving me wrong.

Recapping roster moves, five days of games, who the Saturday starter might be, pitcher development. Plus a tease of a trade idea of an old friend along with some general trade talk.

This is the promised interview with my father from early July. After his stroke in March, I had been afraid that this would not even be possible but less than three months later we sit down and I get to pick his brain about baseball. We go all over talking about the game that he got me hooked on as a young one

We dig deep into the Pirates. We talk about Ohio boy JT Brubaker, who is making his second start. We discuss a Pirates team which is seeing a group of second year players hit a wall. There is some interesting talent, but in general this might be the worst team in baseball. The Indians should get a sweep, and the Pirates should look to sell anyone over the age of 27. This is the easiest stretch of the season so the Indians should pick up games, before facing the Twins next week.

We discuss the ever evolving Plesac and Clevinger situation. We talk about how it could, but will unlikely effect service time. I discuss how every fan-base wants Clevinger, but thinks he should be had at a deep discount. I explain why his stock has not been effected, and then explore why the Rockies standout as a team that would make sense if the Indians do move on from Clevinger.

All Zach Plesac had to do was stay quiet, the onus was off him. he managed to put it right back on himself with a video that both showed him unable to accept responsibility, call media evil, and talk about safety while being incredibly unsafe. It was a rather impressive feat.

We talk a little trade deadline as it is 2.5 weeks out, and point out who might be the most likely candidate after Lindor and why. Then we tease an interesting trade idea for tomorrow.

The Indians lose again. The starter struggles, the pen struggles, the hitters struggle. It was a failure of a series for the Indians. The got beat in every area. Last year the antidote for all issues with the Indians were the Detroit Tigers. This is not the same Tigers team though and they look like a team that is very much on the rise and has a few players establishing themselves as part of the core for the next few years. We explore the Tigers and Indians and see if I can correctly predict the three more games after getting the last 5 games correct.

So we know that Clevinger and Plesac will not pitch this week for the Indians. The question remains win will they, and would potential suspensions from the Indians or the league might occur. We look at quotes from teammates which seem to call both players selfish and liars. We preview the Tigers a little bit and continue to shower the best podcast listeners out there with thanks for the show and its always improving numbers.
