Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians

Zach Plesac made a poor choice, but what Mike Clevinger did was levels of magnitude worse. He put his teammates, their season, and families on the line so he could go out and get his swerve on. Then rather than admitting what he did, he instead chose to act like nothing happened even though one of his teammates is less than a year removed from cancer, and the rest would be spending time with their families on the off-day. Question is did he really not understand the consequences or did he not care about anyone other than himself.

The Indians manage to take two of three from the White Sox, which according to Meatloaf is not bad. We talk about Franmil's big weekend, and continued dominance by the teams starters. We start out with news about the hitting coach, and discussing why Plesac made a very dumb move in light of what the Cardinals and Marlins have gone through. We end with a preview of the Cubs a team who has started out as well as anyone, and who the Indians could struggle with in a short series.

The Indians put as many runs on the board today then they had in their last 8 games combined. We dig into the game, and why another stellar outing by Carlos Carrasco is such a big deal. We talk about that brilliance of Jose Ramirez in the early going and give some love to the recently hot performing Caesar Hernandez. We then talk about the pre game roster moves for both teams. Before ending with a preview of the White Sox, showing how much can change in just one week.

For today's show we look at the Indians win over the Reds which occurred due to good pitching and good luck. We talk about the cutter, which a pair of Indians have added along with several other pitchers in baseball. We talk about Jordan Luplow and how the Indians can help him. It is also important to point out the season is already more than 20% over, so while one does not want to be alarm-est it is also important to know that there is not time to wait around.

The Indians get the win thanks to another strong performance from Shane Bieber, and a well timed home run from Franmil Reyes. We talk about the game and the upcoming next two games with the Reds as well. We take some time to push for more Bradley Zimmer. Then we explore what the Indians will likely look like after rosters are reduced down to 28 targeting the four players who are the most likely to be sent down. We look around the league talking about big name prospects who are being promoted, and teams who are hurting specifically teams who are hurting for pitchers.

Indians have another terrific pitching performance and another unwatchable offensive performance. We dig into the early numbers, showing just how pitiful the team has been in the batters box. We talk about news, including the Indians adding a player to their 60 man roster. We then close out the 2020 MLB draft as I present my Shadow Draft, which is a yearly article i write as a way to end one draft season and begin another. Also a big thanks to everyone who listens we are up 35% from a year ago.

The Indians offense didn't show up for the weekend series, we discuss what was a pretty horrible weekend. We highlight the little good there was, and talk about how the Indians are stacking up in the early going compared to the rest of the league. We talked about a very minor trade the Indians made, before moving onto a Reds preview. The Reds are the Indians mirror image right now a team, struggling with offense that is being dragged along by a fantastic pitching staff.

We dig into listener mail and revisit and expand a possible trade with the Orioles. We talk about the bullpen woes, and the loss tot he White Sox. We also dig into the positives of Zach Plesac and his unbelievable performance. We jump into Thursday's game in progress focusing on Shane Bieber and yet another huge win and performance by the Indians young ace. It is the early going but you have to feel great about how the starters have shown to start the year.

We spend the first half of the episode looking at the catcher position. With Roberto Perez, going on the IL the Indians have no one who can be a starter for an extended period of time. In addition there is almost no catchers left out there on the market for the Indians to add. We do point out who is available on the market, and try and find some interesting names on the trade market. We recorded this before the Indians and White Sox game, so instead we preview the up coming series against the Twins. Once again a position by position preview of this series.

Disclaimer one, at the end of this podcast I forgot Cam Hill. I really need to never use ESPN depth charts ever again. Hill was the right choice to close the game and showed everyone that with his dominant performance. We talk about the Marlins situation which in a day has gotten much worse, so much so their season is on pause right now. We talk about the Indians roster moves, and why Roberto Perez is completely irreplaceable maybe more so than any player on the Indians not named Lindor. We go over both wins, and focus on the top performers which including the continued excellence of Indians starters and three players hitting their first home run of the year.
