  • Fat Fiction: How America's Plan for Eating Right Got It So Wrong: Episode 17

The Emmy Award-winning team at Wide Eye Productions, Director/Writer Jennifer Isenhart and Director of Photography, Tom Hadzor bring you the movie: "Fat Fiction: How America's Plan for Eating Right Got It So Wrong."  Jennifer and Tom experienced such good results when adopting the LCHF way of life and then they went on to learn all about why our current USDA dietary guidelines have got it so wrong leaving millions to suffer the horrific consequences.  They decided to put their talents as movie producers to use and make a movie exploring this and featuring many of the icons in the Low Carb world.  It is narrated by Dr. Mark Hyman and features Professor Tim Noakes, Dr. Sarah Hallberg, Dr. Robert Lustig, Nina Teicholz, Gary Taubes, Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Brian Lenzkes, Dr. Bret Scher and many others.

What sets them apart from the other films in this space is their focus on, not only the cause of the problem but successes and solutions and providing hope.  They even include an interview with our very own Doug Reynolds to discuss the Clinical Guidelines for Therapeutic Carbohydrate Reduction (https://www.lowcarbusa.org/standard-of-care/clinical-guidelines) which we published in May, and our ongoing Standard of Care Initiative.

They have funded this whole project themselves and would greatly appreciate your help in getting the project completed.  You can make a tax deductible donation to the movie through the Boise Film Foundation:  https://www.paypal.me/BoiseFilmFoundation.

  • Controlling Type 1 Diabetes with Keto & HIT - Andrew Berger (Type1Berger): Episode 15

As a Type 1 Diabetic, Andrew Berger describes how he had reduced his use of insulin from 120 units to 26 by adopting a ketogenic diet as well as using a lot of weight.  Then, at our last LCUSA event,  he was introduced to Dr Ben's 15 Minutes to Fitness exercise routine that activates many of the same metabolic pathways as the ketogenic diet.  As a result, if this simple 15 minute workout twice a week is used in conjunction with the ketogenic diet, it is hugely beneficial.  Andrew started with this right away and has enjoyed stunning results.  He is down about 12 more lbs in weight and 4 holes in his belt.  He is also down to 14 units of insulin a day with indications that he will need to reduce it further very shortly.

You can follow Andrew on Twitter at: @Type1Berger.

  • A Mother Fights to Save Her Type 1 Child From The System: Episode 11

Diane Beem read the book by Dr. Bernstein and put her own diabetes into remission and solved her PCOS issues by adopting an LCHF lifestyle.  Then one day her daughter measured a BG level of 600 while messing around with her glucometer and was immediately admitted to the ER.  She tolerated 2 days in the hospital of doctors and dietitians giving her rubbish advice knowing that when she would do it differently (the Bernstein way) when she got home.  Her doctors were telling her that she needed to try to keep Kira's A1C between 7.5 and 8.5, yet by putting her on a ketogenic diet she got it easily down to 5.1.  But the doctors got wind of what she was doing and wrote her a letter saying that if she persisted (in making her daughter healthy, I guess) then they would be forced to report her for child endangerment. She had to get legal help to finally get them off her back, but she persisted and Kira remains healthy.

  • The shocking Origins of the Plant Based Diet - Belinda Fettke: Episode 10

As an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Gary Fettke had been experiencing some flak within the hospital environment in Tasmania, Australia for advocating dietary change for his diabetic patients to avoid having to amputate their feet, but he never expected to actually get reported.  When the first report to AHPRA came through he and his wife Belinda were gobsmacked.  It was like a slap in the face.  He was being disciplined for helping to heal his patients.  How was that even possible? So Belinda set about trying to understand why.  Not only did she discover a massive conspiracy between the Australian Dietetics Association, the Cereal Industry and his own hospital to silence him, but she also unwittingly came across the truth about the origins of the propaganda that the Plant-Based Diet is superior to one including animal products. They go as far as insisting that it is the only diet and actively campaign for legislation to have animal products banned and even advocate for having animals culled.

And it goes back way further than any of us even imagined.  Way before Ancel Keys and the McGovern Commission.  It dates back to the late 1800's and early 1900's, the 7th Day Adventist Church, the Temperance Movement and a young girl, at the time, named Ellen G. White!  And they don't even deny it.  There is no secret agenda here, it is their mission to advocate the Plant-Based-Diet and they proudly admit to that.

"We are not against the Plant Based Diet", Belinda says, "We are just against people trying to dictate or legislate that we can't eat meat or animal products if we choose to."  After dedicating herself to this research for the last 4 years she is, without question, the leading authority on this subject.

  • Small Groups Get it Done - Jess Dudley: Episode 9

Jess Dudley has always been adamant that the path to success for many people on this Low Carb Lifestyle journey lies in small groups and the sense of community that they breed.  She says' "A community, at it’s best, inspires us and helps us build each other up!  We link arms and endeavour to understand each other!  Our common goal: learn, grow, heal and feel better!"

For her, a community is a place she can get involved. She found the more she stayed involved with others, the more she wanted to stay strong for others. She says, "We come from a place with food where we won’t do it for ourselves, but we will do it for someone else!"

She's been involved in over 150 small groups in 2017-18.  She's led or facilitated meetings online, in living rooms, coffee shops,  the local hospital, gym and even her church.  People do better when they are connected to each other.  A small group experience can keep us focused, provide inspiration, direction and give us a place to add value.

You can read more from her in her blog post here.

  • Dr. Gary Fettke Moves On After Exoneration: Episode 8

After his exoneration by AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), Dr. Gary Fettke now looks to the future.  In previous interviews we talked to Dr. Fettke about his incredible personal story discovering LCHF and putting his brain tumour into remission and then about his persecution by the AHPRA for trying to help his patients reverse their diabetes and prevent them from having their feet amputated. He has now been cleared of all charges.

We have not had a chance to speak to him since that exoneration so we took the time to sit down with him at this year's LowCarbUSA® event in San Diego event and talk to him about what was next. Apart from going after all the governing bodies involved in his persecution to obtain a public apology, he is mainly focused on being available in a mentoring role to other medical practitioners who are being maliciously persecuted for advocating a Low Carb-Healthy Fat lifestyle as an intervention.  This just reinforces our opinion of him and his wife Belinda as a couple of the finest human beings we have come to know.
