  • #167: The Key To Real Happiness For Men – John Schinnerer

Today’s Man Alive podcast conversation is with Dr. John Schinnerer, who spent the past 20 years distilling the best research-based tools and methods to help clients overcome anxiety and anger and move towards a contented and purposeful life. Dr. John was one of three experts to consult with Pixar on the Academy Award-winning movie, Inside Out. He is a nationally recognized speaker and an award-winning author with a top-rated blog and over 200 radio appearances.
For many men, stress, relationship conflict, parenting, disappointments in sex and intimacy, can all get in the way of consistent happiness. In this episode, Dr. John sits down with Shana James to talk about how to spend more time feeling happy, relaxed, and at ease.
In today’s episode, Dr. John and Shana discuss:

    * What happiness actually is and how to have more of it
    * How to escape “man box culture” and its painful limitations
    * Realistic optimism – what it is and why it allows you to be happier
    * How to tune into more positive emotions so you can feel better for longer
    * Men who bring their emotions to the workplace and are respected for it

Even men at the top of their game find themselves wanting more from life, whether it’s more meaning unshakable confidence, a bigger impact, more money, deeper love, hotter sex life or a powerful legacy. Find out how good your life can be in this episode. Also, as I’ve supported men in their love and work lives for a couple of years now, many men ask for the right words to say to be more successful, attractive and desirable. I found it’s not so simple as giving scripts or lines because every man is different. Giving words or scripts would be like giving a tall, thin man, a shorter, wider man’s pants or vice versa. The words have to make sense for you and your personality, and there’s so much happening beneath the surface that people are responding to. If you’re interested in how to become a better lover and leader in your unique way, go to ShanaJamesCoaching.com/Quiz, or you can text, ALIVE, to 44144. It only takes a couple of minutes and you’ll start to get an idea of how you can be both more respected and desired. After you fill it out, we can schedule a time to review your quiz and talk about your specific challenges and desires.

I am excited to be here with Dr. John Schinnerer. Welcome. Thank you for being here.
Thanks so much for having me, Shana.
I’m excited to talk about happiness. Happiness has been one of the things in my own life that I’ve struggled to understand over the years. What is happiness actually and how do I get happier? Is it okay to be happier? Is happy what I’m going for? Is it deep and meaningful? I’m excited to tap into your expertise and your wisdom over the years of your research and working with happiness.
I saw the question of what is happiness and I thought that’s a big question. There are a lot of components that we can break down and look at.

  • Why Men in Positions of Power are Prone to Erectile Dysfunction – Shari James

\nErectile dysfunction is something many men experience but few men talk about. In this episode you’ll learn about a natural support for getting help with ED.

\nLet’s start the new year off with as much honesty and diving into uncomfortable truths as possible, okay?\xa0What do we have to gain by hiding or pretending? Nothing really.\xa0From almost 20 years working\xa0with clients it’s clear that\xa0bringing your fear, shame and truth to others allows you to have what you want most.\xa0
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nToday’s podcast is about erectile issues, which most men experience at some point in their lives.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nIf you’ve ever experienced Erectile dysfunction I imagine you’ve had moments of feeling embarrassed, defeated or even hopeless.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nAnd with the conditioning boys and men get to “suck it up” and “deal with it” on your own, it can be something you try to handle alone, rather than reaching out for support.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nYou may have tried using pills to solve your problem, but found they don’t work or the side-effects are nearly as bad your original struggle, or there’s still some left-over emotional or relational baggage to sort through.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nWorking with men of all ages I’ve seen many men in mid-life go through physical and emotional changes that are confusing.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nWhat turned you on when you were young is NOT the same as what turns you on in mid or later life.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nMen tend to actually need MORE connection and emotional safety during sex in mid and later life than when they’re young.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nI am thrilled to bring you a Man Alive podcast conversation today with an amazing woman Shari James (yes we have almost the same name!). Shari is a registered nurse and tantra practitioner who has create a system to support men with ED in a natural way.
    \n
    \n
    \n
    \nIn this conversation we discussed:
    \n
    \n
    \n
\n* Why ED is especially common for men in positions of power or great responsibility* The 5 branches of Shari’s sexual system to create “an erection resurrection“* How men can release experiences from their youth that catch up with them like credit card debt* What happens to men between the ages of 38 and 42 that can create challenges with sex and intimacy* The common mistake men make with their circulatory systems that keep it from supporting your sex life
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nI love joining forces with another woman who loves men and wants to support you!

  • #165: Get Through Crisis With More Passion, Power and Inspiration – Tim Wade

It often takes a major crisis for a man to be willing to ask for or get help. Today’s Man Alive podcast guest helps men through challenges and to find the surprising possibilities that open up on the other side, including more passion, power and inspiration.

At some point, every man (and human) goes through a challenging time or crisis. If you’re lucky it only happens once. For many of us though, there are many breaking points. Life can be painful and even unbearable at times. If you can hang in there, on the other side of crisis is often a re-awakening, or a re-enlivening. Sometimes it comes in the form of a reckoning — a clarity of who you are and what matters to you, where there had been confusion and self-doubt. Sometimes it comes in the form of connection, where there had been isolation. When my kid was only one and I was going through a divorce there were some brutal moments. I cried and grieved for years. But I also found my heart more open than it had ever been. My mind gained clarity and I could see beyond fantasies, expectations and what I thought I should do, or what made me good. Tim Wade, a men’s coach, facilitator and creator of the Defuse the Divorce Bomb course, has gone through his own pain and struggle and has come out the other side to guide men through theirs, especially their relationship challenges. In our Man Alive Podcast conversation we discussed:

    * The power of integrating strength and heart in masculinity, even when it seems like a paradox
    * How to rediscover your mojo (It tends to be buried, not broken)
    * What it takes to pop out of bed in the morning “like a piece of toast,” inspired and alive
    * What it takes to create your circumstances, rather than being at the effect of life
    * How major crises are a doorway to possibilities for an amazing life, connections and community

But it was his unexpected divorce that lit a fire under him to help other men like himself to not only navigate the sometimes treacherous waters of relationships, but become the best version of themselves they can be.

  • #164: How to Navigate a Woman’s Demands and Emotions – Melanie Curtin

There is a painful dynamic that can happen between men and women where a woman becomes resentful, bitchy or mean and a man feels like he can’t do anything right. In today’s podcast Melanie Curtin and I explore why this happens and what a man can do to end this dynamic!

    https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/manalive/164_Melanie_Curtin.mp3

    Show notes

I know relating to women isn’t always easy, especially when they are more emotional, demanding or upset. The reality is that women need to express emotions if they are going to open their hearts, and bodies, to you! If they don’t they become more dry, distant and less turned on. When a woman is upset it doesn’t mean you’re bad or wrong, or that you’ve done something bad or wrong, but many men fall into the trap of seeing it this way. Then they try to avoid a woman’s upset. This sets up a painful dynamic and it gets even more painful when it becomes the norm. When a woman is bitching or yelling at you it seems like she’s expressing emotion but it’s so unconscious that it’s not helping her release or open her heart! If a woman is verbally abusing you then you need that dynamic to change or you need to leave. In many other cases though, while it would seem like you want to get her to change, the only one you have the power to change is you! This Man Alive episode is an exploration of what you can do when you feel helpless or stuck with a woman’s emotions.Melanie Curtin, a sex and relationship coach and creator of the Dear Men podcast, joined me for a joint episode where we discussed:

    * What happens to women when men are distracted or heady* What women long for that, when received, often helps them relax* How to shift nagging and bitching to passion and productive collaboration* What happens to your sex life when you don’t stand up for what you need* How stepping into leadership will improve your relationships
