I’ve never heard anyone say that relationships are easy. For most of us, in addition to joy and pleasure, there is pain and struggle. Some of the pain comes from the tendency to choose partners who are familiar to us.

This familiarity comes from the relationship models we learn in childhood. Most of our parents didn’t model healthy relationships for us. This leaves us choosing unhealthy dynamics to feel “at home.”

What dynamics are familiar to you? What do you choose again and again that is painful?Pain also happens when old wounds and triggers show up with a partner. Even though history is more to blame than the current situation, it seems like it’s your partner’s fault!

Did you know that you can actually get to the root of your suffering, and unravel those patterns, so you struggle less and love more?

Today’s Man Alive podcast guest, Lion Goodman, four-time author, consultant and belief therapist, shares powerful wisdom about how to stop relationship pain at the source!

    In our conversation we discussed…

    * The core relationship issues and how to navigate them with maturity and care* How learning to respond, rather than react, decreases conflict and rebuilds trust* Why recurring fights are a powerful doorway to your healing* How narcissism, attachment and codependence play into relationship struggles* What works when you find yourself in a painful dynamic with your partner

Lion is a powerful teacher. He is deeply educated in psychological and spiritual wisdom and he speaks in a way that is approachable and understandable! Check out this conversation so you can make your relationships more loving and less painful!

  • #152: Total Sexy Health in a Totally Challenging Time – Udo Erasmus

The older I get the more I believe the saying, “If you don’t have your health you don’t have anything!” Without your health you miss out on important experiences and relationships! Today’s guest shares how to get totally, rather than partially, healthy. He also talks about how health can make you sexier!

The more I investigate my own health, the more I see that for most of my life I’ve only had a partial picture of health.

When I went to the doctor for knee pain I was sent to get an x-ray and to a physical therapist, but it wasn’t until I started exploring food choices that created inflammation, as well as how I sit, breathe, etc. that I started to heal the pain.

Years ago when I was having pelvic pain I came to see that many of the triggers are emotional, not just physical. Sadly I didn’t figure this out until I went to a urologist for incredibly painful physical procedures.

Our medical system is extremely compartmentalized. It focuses more on disease management than creating healthy people, says today’s Man Alive podcast guest Udo Erasmus.

Udo has been focusing on a TOTAL view of health for decades. He has been working with everything from biology to spirituality and has an understanding of health that is more holistic and inclusive than most practitioners I’ve studied.

    In this conversation we discussed…

    * The 8 key factors of Total Sexy Health* Why true health is even more important in this day and age amidst Covid and climate change* The key to feel at peace no matter who you’re with or what situation you’re in* Which parts of us need the most attention for well being and a long life* Udo’s deeply touching story of escape during WWII and his life mission to find peace and health

When you are done, check out this Man Alive episode: Life Force: The Key to High Performance. This episode builds on Udo’s principles of how your internal reality profoundly impacts not only your health and well being, but your effectiveness in the world!

  • #151: Goal Setting That Actually Works – Gregg Clunis

It is common to set goals for oneself and then feel seriousdisappointment if you don’t accomplish them. This can leave you in a cycle of feeling defeated or hesitant to try again. Today’s Man Alive podcast guest, host of the podcast “Tiny Leaps, Big Changes”, created a goal setting system that combines effectiveness with self-empathy!

    I hope you’re staying safe!

With the fires and smoke here in California, on top of the pandemic and homeschooling my kid, I may be nearing my limit of what I can handle. However, we are making it work as best we can and discussing how we are building resilience and strength in this wild time.

It’s also been a great time to take a deeper look at what is most important to me, and what I really want in my career, relationship and living situation. In the process of discovery I’ve set some new goals for myself. I’ve also realized that setting goals sometimes makes me nervous because I haven’t always accomplished what I’ve set out to do!

On today’s Man Alive Podcast I wanted to bring you an expert who talks about goal setting that actually works. It seems especially important in this time of chaos and challenge! It’s one thing to set goals in “normal” times. It’s another to set goals in times when the ground seems hard to find.

Gregg Clunis, author and host of the wildly popular Tiny Leaps, Big Changes Podcast, joined me to discuss his goal setting framework that allows you to be more effective and includes self-empathy, rather than beating yourself up!

    In this conversation we discussed…

    * Gregg’s LEAP framework for powerful goal setting* What many people do that creates defeat with their goals* How including empathy for yourself allows you to be more effective and happier* How to be simultaneously data driven and have a healthy mindset* Gregg’s personal experience with his weight loss goals

I remember a coach friend of mine, Rich Livin, saying that he helps people dream bigger than they ever have and take smaller steps than they ever imagined they would.

Sometimes accomplishing goals takes finding the right system, expanding to have a longer-term view or having more clarity about why you want what you want! Whatever your goals, I believe they are possible for you!
