  • Ep. 81: The Secret Weapon for Better Arguments

When you’re in the midst of an argument it can sometimes be really hard to see the end, right? Problem-solving can feel impossible (especially if you have a defensive partner) and distance can exacerbate these issues if you’re disagreeing during a deployment.

But I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again - conflict is necessary for healthy relationships! We aren’t trying to eliminate the conflict, just the parts that are unhealthy and unhelpful.

So, are you ready for the SECRET WEAPON you need for better arguments with your spouse?

It’s an apology!! I know it can seem almost too simple, but stick with me - it’s actually A LOT more complicated than it seems. In today’s episode, I’m diving into the apology, how you could be doing them wrong (yes, there is a wrong way to do it!), and what you need to know to start using the apology as the surefire secret weapon to ending an argument and moving towards compromise in a real way.

    I’m exploring:

    • Military 101: How many people are actually in each US branch and abroad?
    • My surefire secret weapon for better arguments & less defensiveness with your spouse (and how to do it right!)
    • How to know if you’re the under-apologizer or over-apologizer in your relationship
    • Some examples to help you work through arguments & apologies with your spouse (to reduce damage to your connection and work towards resolution)
    • TOP TIPS to make sure you are apologizing effectively - and the kind of apologies you should be avoiding
    • The 5 Apology Languages and how these can help you avoid miscommunication with your spouse
    • And more
