In this episode, I had the privilege of speaking with Trey McWilliams, the CEO of Blue Cardinal Home Services Group. 

We discussed entrepreneurship, leadership, business growth, and mental fortitude, highlighting Trey's journey from a third-generation tradesman to the visionary leader of Blue Cardinal.

Trey's family had a strong tradition in the trades, with his grandfather and father running successful businesses in the industry. 

Growing up, Trey was drawn to this legacy. 

He started working in his father's company during high school, setting the stage for his future in the trades.

However, as time passed, Trey saw the need for change in the company's culture and direction.

He envisioned a business that not only provided for his family but also supported employees who shared his vision. In 2018, after Trey took full ownership of the company, he recognized the shifting landscape in private equity.

Rather than immediately pursuing partnerships with private equity firms, Trey spent two and a half years learning from friends in the industry. This knowledge expanded his perspective, and he realized the diverse approaches within private equity.

With four locations and substantial growth, Trey created a platform, Blue Cardinal Home Services, dedicated to building enduring businesses, not just joining a private equity group. 

Blue Cardinal’s mission focuses on sustainable growth and robust strategies.

In just a year, Blue Cardinal has made significant progress with its capital partner, involving seven transactions and a promising future. Trey's leadership style evolved, and his team's growth mirrored this transformation.

It required unwavering mental fortitude, but they were building a legacy that extended beyond a business—a legacy for generations to come.

Trey's journey is a testament to the importance of mental fortitude in the face of change and uncertainty, and he shares some of the lessons he has picked along the way.
