In the early morning hours of February 17, 1970, military police responded to an on base apartment in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Inside the home of Army doctor Jeffrey MacDonald, they discovered a horrific scene, his pregnant wife, Colette, and their two young daughters brutally murdered.

MacDonald survived and stated that a group of drug-crazed intruders committed the killings.

But as Army investigators began processing the crime scene, the physical evidence told a very different story.

In Part 1 of this series, Margot walks you through the crime, MacDonald’s version of events, and the initial Army investigation that quickly turned suspicion inward.

Was this a Manson-style home invasion…or something far closer to home?

The DA presented five weeks of evidence in People v. Letecia Stauch in Colorado Springs. And while prosecutors secured a conviction in 2023, this case may have been compromised long before opening statements ever began.

In April 2026, the Colorado Court of Appeals granted Letecia Stauch a new trial, pointing to a critical issue of juror bias.

At the center of it all? A juror who was the father-in-law of a local prosecutor working within the same district attorney’s office that tried the case.

Under Colorado law, that kind of relationship raises serious concerns about impartiality, and it’s exactly the type of issue that can unravel an entire verdict.

So how did this happen? And why wasn’t it caught before the trial ever started?

Join Margot as she breaks down what the appellate court actually decided, why juror bias is such a big deal legally, and what prosecutors are likely to do next…

On August 1, 1966, what began as a normal summer day on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin turned into one of the most horrifying acts of violence in American history. In 96 minutes, Marine veteran Charles Whitman claimed 14 lives. Add to that count the lives he took before this massacre, and another life who died 3 decades later due to complications, the total count was 17 murder victims, plus dozens more injured.

Join Margot as she walks you through the post massacre investigation that revealed a letter, 2 more bodies, and a small tumor in the perpetrator’s brain.

This is Part 2 of the University of Texas Tower shooting.

On August 1, 1966, what began as a normal summer day on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin turned into one of the most horrifying acts of violence in American history.

For 96 minutes, a gunman positioned high above the campus rained bullets down on students, staff, and pedestrians below—killing and wounding dozens, and leaving an entire city in shock.

Join Margot as she walks you through the chaos as it unfolded in real time: the victims, the heroes, and the unimaginable courage shown in the face of terror.

You’ll hear how ordinary people risked their lives to save others, how law enforcement responded without modern active-shooter protocols, and how this tragedy would go on to shape the way we respond to mass violence today.

This is Part 1 of the University of Texas Tower shooting.

In 1994, Robin Lawrence was murdered by an intruder with violence on his mind. But Robin fought back. In her final moments, she clawed at her attacker, leaving behind critical DNA evidence that would one day help identify her killer.

What investigators didn’t know then was that justice would take decades.

Through persistent police work, advances in forensic science, and the dedication of a volunteer genetic genealogist determined to give Robin’s family answers, the case was finally solved. And when the suspect was confronted, a guilty conscience did the rest.

Join Margot as she walks you through the long-awaited resolution of the cold case murder of Robin Lawrence, and the eventual identification of her killer, Stephan Smerk, a former soldier assigned to Fort Myer–Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia.
