  • 606 - Protect Your Future in this Crisis

This crisis is going to change everything. The reality that we knew just a few weeks ago is gone and we will be building a new normal for a long time. For entrepreneurs, this represents one of the biggest challenges any of us have ever been through, it also represents the biggest opportunity any of us have had. This is typically exactly the way the world works.

Here's what's important in this crisis, that you personally protect yourself from the chaos. That you remain calm and grounded and you're able to make decisions in a way that moves you forward. The world is going to panic, breakdown, have massive challenges, and more. We are going to see erratic behaviors, personal breakdowns, and challenges at the individual level like we've never seen before.

This event is traumatizing to everyone on the planet. We need to admit that it is, accept that we are in a traumatic situation, and then build the process, structure, and routine to help us get through this.

I have the distinct honor of working with some of the most talented, interesting, and game-changing entrepreneurs in the world today. From Face Yoga to my guest today, each and every business I work with has something unique to offer the market. Darian Khosravi, or Kosmo as we know him, is one of the entrepreneurs making a massive contribution and changing the world, through his barbecue sauce.

In this episode of the momentum podcast, I sit down with Darian and talk about how he is using his business to drive the positive change he wants to see in the world, and how he is continuing to grow his business even in this crisis. You will get an incredible amount of value out of this conversation.

  • 604 - Crisis Predications Part 2

The reality of what is going to happen here is finally starting to set in. The White House released an estimate today that we could have 100,000 to 240,000 deaths from this virus. The reason they updated their previous estimate is that the math is finally setting in. The reality of New York is very real. This is going to be an unprecedented financial and human crisis.

As entrepreneurs, we should understand what the most likely scenario is. Not the politicized scenario but the one that is proven through math. Math is how we run our businesses, math is how we make a profit, and if you're anything like me, you see the world through equations. I've been looking at some of the equations behind this crisis and we need to brace ourselves for a very long recovery.

  • 602 - Process Will Set You Free, and in This Market it Will Save You

As entrepreneurs we fight process, structure, and routine, it's just part of who we are. I know I thought these are for years. I felt like creating process, structure, and routine was going to limit my creativity, it was way too controlling, it was going to take away the freedom I want it as an entrepreneur.

Today I can't believe I ever thought any of those things. Process, structure, and routine have all created freedom in my life that I have been wanting forever. The freedom to do what I want, the freedom to do only the work that I like, and the freedom to grow like crazy regardless of what is happening around me.

In a crisis like we are experiencing today, there is a totally different type of freedom. Because my team and I have clear processes and structure, we are creating momentum, moving forward, and making things happen.

  • 601 - Your Business Can Be Predictable, Even in a Crisis

When I was just getting started as an entrepreneur, the word "predictable" sounded negative to me. I wanted things to be exciting, spontaneous, I wanted to freedom, predictability seemed like a step in the wrong direction. As my business grew, and I got busier, I started realizing that without predictability, I wasn't going to make it. Things got so overwhelming so fast that I felt like I was doing everything, falling behind on a daily basis, and I was constantly overwhelmed. I went from loving my business to having trouble getting out of bed every day because I was felt like I was getting constantly beat up.

My quest for excitement and spontaneity turned into a daily battle with trying to keep up with everything. When I finally stopped finding predictability, systems, routines, and process everything changed. My business started running like I wanted it to, it required far less for me, and I actually achieved the freedom that I've always wanted. Your business can be predictable, even in this crisis.

  • 599 - Document Core Processes to Thrive

In a crisis or any other time, efficiency is critical in business. One of the recurring issues we see in almost all businesses is that the core processes, the ones that create revenue for the business, are often undocumented and unclear. Having documented processes will separate your business from the crowd and make your business real. These define the foundation of what your business does and who your business is. One of the fastest ways to get your business into momentum is to document your processes.

Now is an opportune time to document your processes, clarify them, and make them as efficient as possible. With documentation, you can see a reduction in the time needed to complete a process by as much as 90%. I share this figure with people all the time, let me share with you a recent issue in our company and the 90% reduction that documenting process created.

  • 598 - Crisis Proof Your Day

As a leader of your business, you are the most important person on the team every day. When you take care of yourself first, you are able to take care of your team and move things forward. Today more than ever as leaders we need to be aware, present, and able to make the right decisions. The reality is that, as a leader in your business, your team will respond to the way you show up, now more than ever before. Being present and showing up in the right way will create confidence in your team during these challenging times.

In this episode of the Momentum Podcast, I want to show you what it takes to create the systems in your life that will prevent a crisis from doing damage to your business. It may sound cliché to "put your mask on first" but in a crisis like this one, it's not a cliché it's mandatory. When you are in leadership, the way you show up is going to determine how your team shows up, this is more important now than ever.

  • 597 - Know Your Worst-Case Scenario

Crises create ambiguity. Ambiguity creates insecurity. Insecurity will rob your momentum. The first thing to do in a crisis is to eliminate ambiguity and understand your financial situation. It is a challenging place to go in challenging times, but understanding exactly what is happening for you and your business financially will provide an invaluable perspective into how your business can start to recover and overcome the current market.

Very few people go straight to the worst-case scenario in a crisis, because we are all trying to avoid it. Those who do and understand what could happen, have a basis for making better decisions. By eliminating ambiguity and understanding your financial position, you will create a foundation so you can make far better decisions.
