    Dr. Rachel Edoho-Eket
Great leadership isn't just about what you know. It's about how well you know, understand, value, and connect with the people you lead.
On today's episode of the Never Stop Getting Better Podcast, Coach John Perry sits down with Dr. Rachel Edoho-Eket—award-winning principal, TEDx speaker, two-time bestselling author, and one of District Administration Magazine's Top 100 Education Influencers.
Dr. Rachel serves as principal of a National Blue Ribbon School in Maryland and has spent more than 20 years in education. Throughout her career as a teacher, mentor, assistant principal, principal, professor, author, and speaker, one principle has remained at the center of her leadership: relationships matter.
In this conversation, Rachel and Coach Perry dive into relational intelligence, building trust, creating great cultures, developing leaders, accountability, boundaries, burnout, and what it takes to lead people well.
We talk about why highly talented leaders can still struggle when they fail relationally, how trust impacts performance, why people need to feel valued, and how leaders can create environments where people want to belong, contribute, and grow.
Whether you lead a classroom, football team, business, school, church, or family, this conversation is packed with practical leadership lessons you can use immediately.
Because ultimately, leadership isn't about your title.
    It's about your influence.
    And influence begins with relationships.

You can't consistently pour into others if you've allowed yourself to become empty.
In this Monday Mojo, Coach John Perry shares the story of a frustrated baseball coach who realized his players weren't just listening to his words—they were matching his energy.
Then, on his way to work one morning, he found himself driving behind a truck carrying a water tank. Water was spilling over the sides, and written on the tank were three words: NEVER RUN DRY.
Sometimes leadership isn't about asking more from the people around us. Sometimes it's about taking a look at what's inside of us.
Because whatever fills you eventually flows from you.
If frustration fills your tank, frustration spills out. If negativity fills your tank, negativity spills out. But when you fill yourself with God's Word, gratitude, wisdom, encouragement and truth, those things begin spilling onto the people around you.
Your family feels what's in your tank.
Your coworkers feel what's in your tank.
Your players feel what's in your tank.
Everybody you lead eventually experiences what you're filled with.
    This week's 1% challenge:
    What's filling your tank?
And when life bumps you, what's spilling out?
Fill up before you show up.
    Never Stop Getting Better.

What does it take to build a winning program—and make sure the wins aren't the most important thing you're building?
On Episode 343 of the Never Stop Getting Better Podcast, John Perry sits down with Chuck Hepola, Director of Athletics and Head Football Coach at Evangel University.
Coach Hepola has built Evangel into a consistent championship contender while becoming the winningest head football coach in program history. But his impact reaches far beyond the scoreboard.
John and Chuck talk about building culture, developing leaders, creating accountability, leading today's athletes, handling adversity, and the importance of relationships. They also dive into Chuck's faith and how Evangel Football has intentionally worked to develop young men spiritually, academically, socially, and athletically.
One of the most powerful parts of the conversation is the story behind the baptisms that began on Evangel's football practice field—an incredible example of football becoming a vehicle for something much bigger than football.
This conversation is about winning—but more importantly, it's about winning with purpose.
    In this episode:
    • Building a culture that lasts
    • Creating standards and accountability
    • Developing leaders within a team
    • Leading today's athlete
    • Faith and football
    • Evangel's incredible baptism story
    • Becoming an Athletic Director while remaining a head coach
    • Building and trusting a great staff
    • Handling success and adversity
    • Why relationships matter in leadership

A man sees a butterfly struggling to escape its cocoon and decides to help. He cuts the cocoon open, thinking he’s making things easier.
    But the butterfly never flies.
The lesson is powerful: sometimes struggle is not the problem. Sometimes struggle is the process.
In this episode of Monday Mojo, Coach John Perry shares the story of the butterfly and the cocoon and connects it to leadership, parenting, coaching, adversity, and growth.
We often want to rescue people from hard things. We want to remove the resistance, fix the problem, and make life easier. But if we step in too quickly, we may rob people of the very struggle they need to become stronger.
Great leaders know the difference between support and rescue.
They don’t abandon people, but they also don’t remove every challenge.
They stay close. They encourage. They teach. They believe.
    And sometimes they simply say:
“Keep going. You can do this.”
    In this episode:
    Why struggle can build strength
The difference between helping and rescuing
Why leaders shouldn’t remove every hard thing
How adversity can prepare us for what’s next
How E+R=O applies in difficult seasons
Why coaches, parents, and leaders must learn when to step in and when to let the process work
Don’t cut the cocoon too early.
Let the struggle do its work.
    And Never Stop Getting Better.

How do you stay calm when the margin between success and failure is incredibly small?
This week on the Never Stop Getting Better Podcast, John Perry sits down with Leighton Dempster-Matey, Head Rifle Coach at Army West Point, for a conversation about pressure, discipline, confidence, leadership and the mental side of elite performance.
Leighton knows what it takes to compete at a high level. Before entering coaching, she was an accomplished collegiate rifle athlete at the University of Memphis, earning All-American honors and competing at the NCAA Championships. Today, she leads cadet-athletes at West Point, where the mission extends far beyond competition. She is helping develop young men and women who will become future Army officers and leaders.
John and Leighton discuss how elite performers handle pressure, the importance of routines and preparation, how athletes recover after mistakes, the relationship between discipline and confidence, and what separates good competitors from great ones.
They also dive into the unique leadership environment at West Point and the lessons Leighton has learned about accountability, resilience, composure and developing people who can perform when the stakes are high.
Whether you're a coach, athlete, parent, educator or business leader, this conversation is packed with lessons that apply far beyond the rifle range.
    In this episode:
    • Staying calm under pressure
    • The mental side of elite performance
    • Responding to mistakes and moving forward
    • Discipline, preparation and confidence
    • Developing future leaders at West Point
    • Building resilient competitors

What if greatness isn’t built through one massive breakthrough, but through hundreds of small improvements nobody notices?
In this week’s Monday Mojo, Coach John Perry shares the story of British Cycling and performance director Dave Brailsford, who became obsessed with the idea of marginal gains — improving everything by just 1%.
They improved equipment. Recovery. Sleep. Hygiene. Training. Even the smallest details others would have ignored.
    None of it looked revolutionary.
But together, those tiny improvements began to compound.
The result? British Cycling went from decades of mediocrity to becoming one of the most dominant cycling programs in the world.
This episode is a reminder that extraordinary results are usually built from ordinary things done exceptionally well.
    The world sees the breakthrough.
    It rarely sees the 1%.
    In this episode:
    Why small improvements matter
How marginal gains compound over time
Why details become your competitive advantage
The importance of respecting the work nobody applauds
How to identify your own 1% today
You don’t need to become 100% better overnight.
    Just find one thing.
    Improve it.
    Stack it.
    Repeat it.

What separates teams that win occasionally from programs that win consistently?
    Culture.
Greg Berge www.gb1leadership.com Email: [email protected], [email protected]
On Episode 339 of the Never Stop Getting Better Podcast, John Perry sits down with Greg Berge — longtime educator, championship basketball coach, high school principal, author, speaker, and founder of GB1 Leadership.
Greg spent 20 years as a varsity basketball coach, compiling a 393-146 record while winning 11 conference championships — including nine consecutive titles — and three section championships. Today, he uses more than three decades of experience in coaching, education, and leadership to help coaches and organizations build stronger cultures and develop better leaders.
Greg is the author of five books and the creator of Culture Wins OS, Team Leader OS, and Better Coach OS.
In this conversation, John and Greg dive into what great cultures actually look like, why culture must be built intentionally every day, how coaches can develop player-led teams, the importance of standards and accountability, and why sustained winning begins long before the scoreboard.
    Greg's philosophy is simple:
    Culture is what you allow.
    Culture is what you emphasize.
    Culture is every day.
If you're a coach, teacher, administrator, business leader, or anyone responsible for leading people, this conversation will challenge you to examine the culture you're creating every single day.

What do you do when things aren't going your way?
When you're working hard but not getting the opportunity… when someone else controls the decision… when the results aren't matching the work… you have a choice.
You can worry, complain, make excuses and obsess over the outcome.
    Or you can GET BETTER.
In this Monday Mojo, Coach John Perry shares two powerful reminders for navigating uncertainty: Control Your Work and Control Your Words.
First, when you can't control the outcome, increase your value. Put your head down, go to work and Never Stop Getting Better. Worry doesn't move the needle. ACTION does.
Second, pay attention to the words you're speaking to yourself. Your brain is listening. Instead of telling yourself what NOT to do—"Don't mess up," "Don't miss," "Don't be nervous"—flip the script and give yourself a productive instruction: Execute. Compete. Do your job. Next play.
Your words can either reinforce your work or sabotage it.
    This week's challenge is simple:
ONE intentional action that makes you better.
ONE negative thought that you intentionally reframe.
    Every day.
Control your work. Control your words.
And when the future is uncertain, don't predict it.
    PREPARE FOR IT.

What happens when the life that looks successful on the outside isn't working on the inside?
On Episode 337 of the Never Stop Getting Better Podcast, I sit down with business coach, real estate broker, author, and former pastor Chris Bryant for a powerful conversation about purpose, identity, trust, relationships, and personal growth.
Chris has spent more than 25 years in real estate, but his greatest passion is developing people. His own journey forced him to confront a difficult truth: achievement and performance can produce success while quietly becoming the place we look for our identity, security, and worth.
We talk about the personal crisis that changed Chris's life, the "relational operating systems" we develop early in life, and how old patterns involving control, approval, and performance can continue running long after they've stopped serving us.
Chris also shares two practices that helped change his life: slow down enough to create space between stimulus and response, and invite trusted people into your life who will tell you the truth.
We also discuss faith, leadership, attachment patterns, coaching, building great businesses by building great people, and what it really means to live a Life on Purpose.
This isn't just a conversation about becoming more successful.
    It's about becoming more whole.

    Key Takeaways
    1. Wisdom lives in the tension.
It doesn’t always have to be work or play, save or spend, tomorrow or today. Mature people learn how to do both.
    2. Don’t confuse accumulation with living.
There will always be another dollar, title, accomplishment or milestone to chase. At some point we have to ask, “What is all of this for?”
    3. Experiences compound too.
We understand compound interest, but experiences can also pay dividends for decades through memories, relationships and shared stories.
    4. There’s more than one kind of scarcity.
We worry about running out of money. We should also remember that we're running out of time.
    5. Prepare for winter—but recognize that summer is leaving.
