Ryan Shelton is a successful comedian, writer and podcaster but these days, he's perhaps best known for starting conversations that are uncomfortable for many - about shame, self-doubt, envy, and creativity. Conversations, really, about vulnerability.
In this episode of No Filter, Ryan tells Mia about the books and conversations that changed his life, and what happened when he decided to confront his best mate, Hamish Blake, about the feeling he was most ashamed of...

For anyone who may have missed it, the defining feud of this season of Married, At First Sight, has unfolded between two women named Olivia and Domenica. You may have no idea who these women are, or you may have some very strong, most likely negative, feelings towards one of those women in particular. Her name is Olivia Frazer and she’s our guest today.
Our episode is not about picking a side or wading through the minutiae of what happened on the show.
No Filter is a candid podcast about vulnerability and our interview today focusses on the cost of being a reality TV villain and what it feels like when an entire country turns against you.

Want more of Kylie? Listen to Mia’s bonus episode with her here.
On the 12th of September, 2018, Australian Academic Kylie Moore-Gilbert was arrested at Tehran’s International Airport in Iran. She spent 804 days incarcerated in Tehran’s Evin and Qarchak prison for espionage, a crime she never committed.
She was an innocent Australian stuck in a foreign prison...with no way of getting home. Kylie’s story about her imprisonment, and what happened after she was finally released is unbelievable. Except it really happened.

Cast your mind back to the start of 2020. What was on your bingo card? Probably not words like burnout, languishing, cameras off, zoom & the great resignation. But two years down the track and here we are.
The way we work has fundamentally changed in an instant.
So how can we make sense of it?
In this episode, organisational psychologist Adam Grant will try to help us understand how the world can work smarter and better with these new cards we’ve been dealt.

What came next was parties, depression, body image issues.
And then, Geoff decided to make a comeback.
On this episode, he chats to Mia about starting over in his career and his family, getting arrested and why he has no regrets.

Stephenie Rodriguez was at a work conference in Nigeria in 2020 when she got bitten by a mosquito.
At the time, she didn’t think anything of it, but two weeks later she collapsed on the floor of an airport. And 24 hours after that, the single mother and digital entrepreneur was in a coma in a Boston hospital with a 2% chance of surviving.
Steph has been through more in the past two years than most of us. And what you’ve read so far is only the start of her story… where she’s at now, is a whole other level of remarkable.

It’s a confusing time to work out what a woman over 40 is supposed to look like. Last week, two magazine covers were released. One with 56yo former supermodel Linda Evangelista showing how she’d been ‘disfigured’ by cosmetic surgery that was meant to make her look younger and thinner and one with Oscar nominee Nicole Kidman dressed like a schoolgirl. No wonder we’re confused. You can see both covers here.
Which is why this week on No Filter, Mia is joined by former Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Australia and author, Kirstie Clements, to talk about the perplexing business of women getting older.
And just a note, this is not a conversation about women looking ‘good’ for their age - and it’s not about shaming women. It’s a respectful conversation where two women in their 50s try to make sense of the mixed messages we’re getting from popular culture…
THE END BITS:

Sometimes really bad things happen in families. Things that aren’t spoken about. Things that are covered up to protect adults….at the expense of children. But sometimes, decades later, when those children grow up, they make the courageous, difficult decision to speak up, even if there is enormous pressure from within their family and community to stay silent. Virginia Tapscott is one of those children who grew up and spoke out, after the death of her beloved older sister Ally Tapp who was abused by not just one trusted male relative but two.
This is the story of Virginia and Ally.
A heads up, this podcast deals with sexual assault and child sexual assault. If you need help please call 1800 Respect.
