AADOM's Annual Conference is over. Kevin and Teresa discuss exhibits, speakers & crowd demographics. Susan Gunn, Laura Hatch and other superstar speakers are discussed. Teresa talks about the insurance panel she moderated and reveals the takeaways. Conferences like Siroworld are changing the game but how was this year's? Did the Dentsply resignations have anything to do with that?
Kevin's book "Battling and Beating the Demons of Dental Assisting" is out & getting attention from docs. Why does this pleasantly surprise Teresa? Fun stuff: Go see the movie "It"!
Are insurance problems really bigger in Texas? Everything is bigger there, isn’t it? Teresa gives a show report from the Southwest Dental Conference in Dallas, TX. What were the audience’s biggest pain points? Networks, crown buildups and perio coding were front and center. Tune in to hear the FAQs and how she answered them.
Kevin returns from the California Dental Association show in San Francisco and provides a report. The show floor has some crazy dynamics. Good reps, bad reps, attendees who steal – we talk about all of that. Which shows should you attend? We go over our can’t-miss shows and why.
If you’re a convention junkie or a sales rep/manufacturer/exhibitor then you’ll want to listen to this. If anything, you’ll find out who Teresa would like to kick in the butt!

We dive into a discussion about some of our favorite dental people who we see on the road. Shout out to Abe Kasbo and Steve Jeffrey! Then we discuss people who think they are social media experts. Does running one Facebook page make you an expert? Maybe. Maybe not. Teresa goes over what she thinks is the difference between a social media guru and a social media employee.
Finally, we go over differentiating factors. What is yours? It may not be as easy as you’d think to answer this.

Teresa takes you behind the scenes for her courses at Dentrix Business of Dentistry (BOD). She walks you through the morning preparation for her Accounts Receivables and Insurance course. Then she moves onto the show floor with co-host Kevin Henry to discuss the day. Kevin shares his thoughts on Stanley Bergmann’s keynote address. The focus was on technology and the savings that result – both financial and lives. How important is course length? We’ll talk about that as well since we both presented.
The third segment (at 15:45) is Teresa sharing her post-class steps and how she handles Q&A and attendee concerns. Every audience is different!
Finally, at 28:35, Teresa wraps up the BOD. The Industry Perspectives class drew some interesting comments from solo dentists. Teresa’s Insurance Panel yielded many questions regarding network changes, participation woes and (massive) fee schedule confusion. The main stage was where Teresa ended the conference as she was honored to be a part of Dentrix’s wrap-up ceremonies. So why did she talk about Bubbles? You’ll see!

Apocalypse talk! What would you do if the big one hit? Or perhaps weed will curtail the inevitable? Don’t think about that – let’s talk LinkedIn instead! What are the No-Nos of networking? Why you shouldn’t wait to open a profile when you most need it. Recommendations, pictures, ducklips. One of these things doesn’t fit – which one is it? If you don’t know, you should listen. Okay – you should listen anyway. Powerful LinkedIn and IRL connection tips coming up!

Let's take your website apart. How does it read to your patients? Do you acknowledge your participation? Does your copy match your participation? Are you friendly with financing? How soon can you get them in? Is there a chat/messaging? Can they schedule appointments and pay their bill online? Easy does it - let's talk about it.
Teresa will walk you through all of this so you can diagnose how helpful your site really is for a new patient!

Human resources is exhausting. We go through the interview - what makes us consider a candidate? What makes us disqualify one? We'll go over Teresa's management experience with interviewing. What will she immediately disqualify an applicant for? Kevin shares what he sees in the field.
Social media profiles and how they factor into the hiring process is discussed. Not the straight laced HR talk but what really happens. How can LinkedIn help? More than you think. Also - let's eliminate the word "Just." You're more than "just" a manager or "just" an assistant. Disclaimer: we are not HR experts.
Complete with a surprise Escape Room and Minion discussion!

What kind of communities do you belong to and are they helpful? The value of mentorship is always underestimated. Is it time to look for your own tribe? We also go through the last few classes we've given on industry insiders and insurance - did we scare the crowd? Probably. The talks of contracts and fee schedules are heating up.
Millennials and the workplace were the next topic - are they that bad? Doesn't every generation have the potential to produce horrible employees? That led to the topic of marijuana in Nevada and Colorado. We missed out on the cash train, it seems!
