In this episode of the Pacey Performance Podcast I have the massive privilege of speaking with head of strength and conditioning and sports science manager at Surfing Australia, Jeremy Sheppard. Jeremy doesn't do loads of things like this so it was great to have a chat and discuss a sport that is known little about. Jeremy has countless publications to his name including journal articles, book chapters and books.
This episode of the Pacey Performance Podcast sees me speaking with Head Physiotherapist at the Huddersfield Giants, Dave O’Sullivan. Dave is also co-owner of Pro Sport Physiotherapy which has clinics in Leeds, York & Huddersfield. I know Dave from his involvement with Huddersfield University and I was lucky enough to spend a few days down at the Giants and they are going great things down there without a huge budget. Over the last 3 years, the Giants have been in the top 3 clubs with the least amount of non-contact injuries.
In the episode of the Pacey Performance Podcast I was absolutely blown away by this guest. Rob Taylor is the founder of SMARTERteamtraining.com and has worked with a wide variety of teams all over the world including Australian women’s lacrosse, Anaheim Angels, Tampa Bay Buccaneers & Tampa Bay Mutiny. Rob’s enthusiasm for his job was infectious in this episode and his openness in all he does was a pleasure to listen to.
In this episode of the Pacey Performance Podcast I am speaking with ex Great Britain sprinter, Craig Pickering. Craig has a really cool story having come through the ranks in athletics to represent Great Britain with a PB of 10.14 in the 100m and a world championship bronze in the 4x100m (2007). Craig went on to be 1 of only 8 people to represent their country at the summer and winter Olympics when he switched to bobsleigh.
In this episode of the Pacey Performance Podcast I am chatting with one of the 'go-to guys' when it comes to auto-regulatory training and velocity based training, Bryan Mann. Bryan is a super nice guy and it was a real pleasure to finally speak to him.
In the episode we spoke about -
Bryan's background, education and what he is currently doing
What is APRE (auto-regulatory progressive resistance exercise)?
What other forms of auto-regulatory training are there?
How important is bar speed in strength & power training?
What are the important metrics when assessing bar speed?
The best tools for assessing bar velocity
Bryan's major influences throughout his 16 year career Bryan mentions a lot of resources throughout the episode so if you visit paceyperformance/24 you can find links to many of them on there in the show notes.
In this episode I feel like a real student as I am speaking with host of Iron Game Chalk Talk and Director of Strength & Conditioning at Eastern Michigan University, Ron McKeefery. Ron has been putting out podcasts for a while now and the content he puts out in various other avenues is superb. The Iron Game Chalk Talk is pushing 100 episodes now and his show is definitely something I aspire for this podcast.
In this episode we speak about his philosophy as a strength coach, his top pieces of advice for guys new to the game & what the journey looks like for one of his athletes. It was such a pleasure to speak with someone of Ron's vast experience in so many aspects of strength & conditioning. His passion for the industry is so evident and I felt very inspired after this episode.
This episode sees me speaking with strength coach, writer and elite drug free powerlifter, Greg Nuckols. Greg has been writing a blog for some time and I have kept up to date with his articles for the last few months and he is someone I have wanted to get on for a while. In this episode we discuss training for powerlifting, periodisation, training to failure and the importance of bar speed. If you want to check out Greg's blog, he has recently got a new website at strengtheory.com with the content on there absolutely fantastic and I would definitely recommend it. Bret Contraras, Mike Isreatel and owner of Juggernaut Training Systems, Chad Wesley-Smith all endorsed Greg's previous website gregnuckols.com which gives you an insight into Greg's quality as a writer.
In this episode I am very lucky to speak with head of strength & conditioning for men's and women's basketball at the University of Richmond, Jay De Mayo. I was so excited to speak with a true legend of S&C and it was very kind of him to give up 40 minutes of his time to speak on the podcast. We discussed what the journey is like for a student coming through his programme, how he conditions his players during the long in-season and how he develops 'agility' in his basketball players and his tennis players. We also discuss his annual seminar that he runs and you can find out more about this at CVASPS.com.
