Melissa Talwar shares how patient advocacy, lifestyle changes, and community support can empower people with fibromyalgia to reclaim their quality of life.
Melissa Talwar shares her personal journey from developing fibromyalgia as a teenager to becoming a patient advocate and health coach. In conversation with Dr. Rodger Murphree, she discusses the challenges patients face when seeking diagnosis and treatment, the lack of research funding, and the importance of advocacy, community support, and lifestyle changes in improving quality of life for those living with fibromyalgia.
Melissa Talwar is an award-winning patient advocate, the Executive Director of the Support Fibromyalgia Network, and currently works in group medical care as a Board Certified Functional Medicine Health Coach. She is a Wahls Protocol Certified Practitioner, ReCODE 2.0 Certified, holds a Master’s in Neuroscience, and is currently in the Clinical Mastership Program with The Kharrazian Institute.
At fourteen years old, Melissa sustained a concussion with a sports injury. This not only derailed her Olympic dreams but left her in chronic, debilitating pain. After spending over a decade declining with fibromyalgia, and having no hope of recovery, she took her health into her own hands using Functional Medicine principles and has successfully reclaimed her health. Her life’s mission is to bring change to the fibromyalgia community through health coaching, the nonprofit organization, and patient advocacy.
