Heal Your Relationships

Pause and Presence in Your Relationships, with Dr. Jessie Mahoney

Listen Later

As we move through the holiday season, there’s a good chance life feels a little louder than usual — even when it’s a “beautiful” kind of loud.

There’s the hustle. The to-do lists. The coordinating. The cooking. The driving.

The expectations. The emotions. The memories. The tender moments… and the complicated ones too.

And in the middle of all of it, the older I get, the more I realize something simple and powerful:

The quality of our relationships often comes down to our ability to pause.

To slow down.

To make one conscious choice in the moment — instead of reacting on autopilot.

This week on Heal Your Relationships, I’m joined by Dr. Jessie Mahoney — physician coach, yoga and mindfulness teacher, and the creator of Pause and Presence. She is truly an expert in helping people bring more stillness, intention, and steadiness into their homes, workplaces, and day-to-day lives.

This conversation is full of practical “pearls” you can use immediately — especially during the holidays, when everything speeds up and our nervous systems run hot.

One of my favorite takeaways is how Jessie teaches pausing inside transitions — because transitions already contain a natural pause.

Before work.

Before you walk in the door at home.

Before you respond to a difficult moment.

Even one to five minutes can completely change the energy you bring into a room.

  3. 03:06 How “Pause and Presence” was born (and why pausing changes everything)
  4. 05:24 What happens when life gets hard (and why support matters)
  5. 07:23 “In the pause is where your peace and control live”
  6. 12:05 Why slowing down can feel like a “foreign country” (and why it’s healing)
  7. 24:36 A simple tool: pausing in transitions (car pause before work / before home)
  8. 35:39 Productivity addiction vs. true priorities (presence, connection, joy)

So if this season feels full… or tender… or overwhelming… or simply busy — consider this episode an invitation to slow down just enough to return to the people you love with more presence.
