  • Dave Proctor: Outrun Rare and Quarantine Backyard Ultra
This podcast is an interview with Dave Proctor, a Canadian ultra runner. I met Dave when I was living in Calgary in 2018. He is a lovely guy as I’m sure you’ll find when you listen to the interview. Dave works as a massage therapist in Calgary and has achieved many records in the ultra-running world. As part of Outrun Rare, Dave attempted to run across Canada in 201 but was thwarted by injury. He was planning to attempt this epic run again this year, but COVID-19 put an end to that, as it has to the entire race season around the world. Dave talks about this and how he has pivoted his disappointment into the creation of another challenging event! Listen on to find out all the details of this event that you can be a part of!!! Well, are you up for the challenge Australia?? I won’t be as my nerve injury is now preventing me from running too long. But I will definitely be watching on! I do hope you get involved. The link for the even will be in the show notes. • Leigh Iacovangelo: Physiotherapist at Rise Health Group
Hi and welcome to the Peak Endurance Podcast. My name is Isobel Ross and I am the coach at Peak Endurance Coaching. This podcast is the second in a series on the different physical therapies that runners can use to help keep them running. Today I am talking to Leigh Iacovangelo (pronounced YACKA  VAN   G    LOW), a physiotherapist. Leigh is the clinical director and partner of RISE Health Group, A multidisciplinary allied health practice in Rowville and Scoresby.
Leigh is an experienced physiotherapist whose current responsibilities include the assessment and management of 800+ athletes at the Rowville Sports Academy. He possesses an expanded skill set and knowledge in strength & conditioning and athletic development that aids in the development of performance or comprehensive rehabilitation programs.
Leigh’s clinical approach is very broad and can include treatment approaches developed through postgraduate study in Pilates, dry needling and advanced exercise prescription. His reputation for clinical excellence resulted in his appointment as the Head Physiotherapist for the Australian Indoor Hockey Team since 2015 and a physiotherapist for Melbourne United Basketball in the NBL since 2019.
He currently conducts high performance programs (strength & conditioning & rehabilitation) for professional golfers, Australian level hockey players and elite ultra-runners.
Leigh is happy to see both novice and sub-elite athletes.
Leigh clearly has a passion for what he does, and I can tell you from personal experience that he is an excellent physiotherapist. I found it interesting that he believes, like Luke Nelson, in the importance of calf strength. Something for all us runners to keep in mind!

  • Coaching roundtable special. Coronavirus: how do we reframe our running goals becaus of Covid 19, showing compassion for race directors and trying to stay positive in these difficult times
Hi and welcome to the Peak Endurance Podcast. My name is Isobel Ross and I am the coach at Peak Endurance Coaching. Today’s podcast is a coronavirus special. I know we are all sick of hearing about it, but we are at an historic moment in time. This is a big deal for the human race and we want to look back on it knowing we did the best we could for all of our society. That we cared about others and showed empathy for all people. I believe we will get through this, and hopefully we can look back on this time as a period where people came together to help one another and that we all maintained our dignity and strength in these difficult times. I know it feels totally out of control at the moment, but a good mantra is ‘this too will pass’ as all difficult times do. We will get through this and be better and stronger for it.
The situation with coronavirus is changing daily, if not hourly. Please understand that when listening to this podcast; we recorded on the 17th March, you may be listening at a different date. Keep this in mind.
I hope you got something out of this podcast. I think runners are naturally a resilient bunch and I know we are great at supporting each other. I wish you all the best and please take care of yourself and your loved ones. I hope to see you at a race in the not too distant future.

  • Luke Nelson; Sports Chiro
This podcast is the first in a series on the different physical therapies that runners can use to help keep them running. Today I am talking to Luke Nelson, a sports chiropractor. Luke has a special interest in sports injuries and rehabilitation, in particular running biomechanics and injuries. He has worked with a number of elite and Olympic athletes from a wide variety of sports including Australian Rules football, athletics, water polo, golf, triathlon, cricket, athletics, ice hockey, volleyball and soccer, so he knows what he’s talking about! He talks with us about common running injuries, how chiropractic can help, the difference between chiro and physio, and an easy to do test that runners can do to ascertain their calf strength which can then help to avoid injuries. I hope you find the chat as informative as I did!

  • Delirious West special: Interviews with Sarah Foster and Kirsten Maplestone
Today’s podcast is a Delirious West special. The Delirious West is a 200 mile race in Western Australia. The Delirious W.E.S.T. is run almost entirely on the Bibbulmun Track in the South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia from the old logging settlement of Northcliffe, to the Historic port city of Albany.
The event took place from Wed 19 February with a 104hr cut off, runners having until 3pm Sunday 23 February to make their way to the finish line at the Great Southern Distillery Company in Albany.
The Delirious traverses some of the most remarkable forests, unforgiving coastal scrub, stunning beaches, water crossings and some of nature’s finest landscapes along the World Famous Bibbulmun track.
Sarah and Kristen both raced the Delirious West, and they both had very different races! Sarah was first female (and third overall) in a record-breaking time of 71 hours and 35 minutes. Kirsten was the last runner and finished in a time of 103 hours and 50 minutes. They both challenged themselves and got the best they could out of themselves. Please enjoy listening to the amazing feats of these equally amazing women!

Today we have another coaches roundtable!

    The questions we discuss are:

What is the purpose of macro, mico and meso cycles in your training season?

How do we plan for recovery after an A-race?

How do we train mental toughness, and can we even do so?

  • Lucy ran the length of New Zealand!!!
Today’s podcast features the amazing Lucy Clark. If you recall, I first interviewed Lucy waaay back in October, episode 7. If you haven’t listened to that podcast yet, I recommend you pause this, go back, listen to it, then get back into this one! Lucy spent a long time planning an epic adventure. She planned to run the length of NZ from the tip of Cape Reinga in the North Island to the Bluff in the South Island. Well, with strength and determination Lucy did it! She now has the fastest known time, finishing the Te Araroa (tee-are-a-rho-a) trail in 66 days, 7 hours and 8 minutes. What an absolutely phenomenal achievement! An inspiration to women (and men!) everywhere to show what is possible.
I hope you enjoy the podcast!

I have another hiking poles skills clinic coming up. I’m trying out a new time. Rather than a Saturday morning, I’ve planned for Sunday 15thMarch at 2pm This session goes for 90 minutes and we focus on correct height and usage of poles. We will practice on technical and non-technical terrain, as well as up and down-hill techniques. You will learn how to use poles running and hiking. The lesson will be located in the Dandenong Ranges. Here's the link to purchase tickets: https://www.peakendurancecoaching.com.au/store/p1/Monthly_training_program.html#/

  • Hong Kong Four Trails Special: with Stephen Redfern and Andre Blumberg.
Today’s podcast is a Hong Kong Four Trails special. The Hong Kong Four Trails is more of an event than a race. It requires participants to run all four of the Hong Kong Trails in under 60 hours. There is no winner, only finishers. My first guest is Stephen Redfern. He recently completed the Hong Kong Four Trails in a remarkable 54 hours. He certainly accomplished getting in under 60 hours! I first chat with him before the race, then after. He certainly had an adventure!
My second guest is Andre Blumberg, the race director. He discusses with me the reasons for starting the race, and where he sees it going.
