Welcome to episode #165! This week, Matt and Braden talk with Justin Roethlingshoefer about the importance of holistic health.
A Holistic Approach To Your Life & Health
Holistically integrated health isn’t just physical - how fit we are, how we’re eating or sleeping, etc. Holistic means all. Integrated means to bring together, to make complete. Health is the mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional condition of a human being. To heal is the same definition as integrated: to bring together, to make complete. We’re treating our health in disintegrated ways - treating each pillar of health separately and then our holistic health disintegrates and we wonder why. You can’t dissociate mental, physical, spiritual and emotional health, we have to address them all as one and then you’ll begin to heal.
A Bottom Up Approach vs A Top Down Approach.
The world tells us to operate with body first, then heart, then mind, then spirit. We are utilizing willpower alone to say “no” to various temptations until eventually we will succumb and fall off track. When we take a physical body approach first, it starts to poison our hearts. It causes fear, anxiety, depression, etc. It continues to dissociate the mind and thus, disconnects us from our spirit. We need to flip and start with the spiritual connection: what are we called to do, meant to go, seeking God & the desires He’s put into your heart. Then, it renews the mind. It moves the fear, anxiety and depression you’ve been battling and purifies your heart. It allows confidence and joy and that dictates what happens physically (your habits, behaviors and lifestyles). It gives you the staying power to stand firm and stay on the path that leads to true health. It creates a long term solution. The addiction won’t be fully overcome until we figure out the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical order.
Slow is Smooth and Smooth is Fast
SLOW: we need to be Silent, so we can Listen, so we can be Obedient to generate Wisdom.
If we aren’t willing to be silent, and hear what God is saying to us, we don’t give ourselves the opportunity to be obedient. Chaos and background noise drown out what God is trying to say. God doesn’t have a talking problem, we have a listening problem. If we don’t have the opportunity to be obedient, the best chance to succeed that we have is 50/50. We need to be still and silent to have the opportunity to listen and with that to hear and be obedient.
8 Controllables and action steps that you can lean into: Exercise, sleep, nutrition, mindset, hydration, Self care, immune function and environment. These habits and behaviors help balance your heart rate variability and give you the awareness to be stress resilient.
