While exercise may look positive, the root driving force may not be so. We hope this episode offers insight into the nuances behind our socially encouraged practice of working out.  Unfortunately behind the shiny curtain of phrases like “you’ll never regret a workout” & “I love the way exercise makes me feel” lives the less-than-shiny REAL reasons most folks feel driven to move their body: burning off calories, making up for what they ate, and manipulating their bodies to look a certain way.  

In this solo episode, Engrid, a non-diet certified Strength & Conditioning Coach & personal trainer, shares her own journey with recovering from exercise compulsion as part of her eating disorder. The early 2000’s Rom Com Era followed by the 2010’s “Hipster Era all reinforced that liking popular (especially feminine/age appropriate) stuff was “lame” “cringy”

A new research study that shows how the body and metabolism changes after calorie restriction and dieting. The clients followed a very strict calorie restricted diet and exercise routine and even years after participating in the show, their metabolism was slower than what it should be (Source)

 

Restriction leads to deprivation which leads to overeating which leads to guilt and then the restriction begins again. You have to stop placing foods off limits and stop restricting in order to stop overeating (Source).
