Thanks for joining me for another episode of One For The Road. This week I am joined by Racheal Lander. Rachael is a session cellist who has performed with everyone from London Grammar and Royal Blood to George Michael and Elton John. Rachael is also 16 years in recovery having used alcohol and beta blockers to medicate her crippling performance anxiety. She uses her platform to raise awareness of addiction and recovery in the music industry and is honoured to be a trustee of @musicsupport_uk, the charity that helps those who work in the UK music industry affected by mental ill-health and/or addiction. As part of our discussion, we talk about the charity’s new Family and Friends service that is being developed to provide support to the loved ones (including colleagues) of those struggling with problematic drinking, drug use or other addictions. I’m proud to be releasing this episode during #AddictionAwarenessWeek2023 when Music Support, alongside other amazing organisations (including@actiononaddiction and my friends at @nacoauk) come together to call for addiction to be treated as a serious mental health condition and seek access to treatment, support and care so recovery can be possible for everyone.
