Rapamycin: What You Should Know

Listen Later

Is rapamycin the key to unlocking the fountain of youth?

Scientists are exploring various ways to inhibit aging and one of the potential pharmaceutical interventions is the use of rapamycin. In this episode, Dr. Charles Mok explores rapamycin cream, its origins, applications, and potential benefits to slow down the aging process.

Rapamycin, also known as sirolimus, was discovered several decades ago and has captivated doctors and patients for its minimizing impact on aging. Studies have shown that rapamycin not only inhibits tumor growth and organ transplant rejection but reverses aging in various animals, including mammals.

Rapamycin appears to suppress the conversion of young cells into old cells, called senescence. Senescent cells, known for their toxic effects, contribute to the development of wrinkles and saggy skin. Dr. Charles Mok shares findings from studies using rapamycin cream on healthy volunteers, revealing younger-looking skin with increased collagen and fewer senescent cells.

Dr. Charles Mok stresses that rapamycin cream is not a replacement for standard skincare practices like sunblock or topical vitamin C and retinol. Instead, it serves as an adjunct therapy for individuals seeking to reverse skin damage.
