The 2022/2023 runDisney race season has started, and 6 of the 7 co-hosts of the podcast where there to help kick it off!

This week we look back on the Wine and Dine Half Marathon race weekend and discuss how the weekend went for us. We discussed:

  • 56: Wine and Dine Excitement, You Can Do It Podcast, and the Marine Corp Marathon 50K

The runDisney 2022-23 season is here! Thank you Allison, Tyler, and Grace for introducing episode 56. We sure look forward to meeting you and many of our Rise and Run friends this weekend! Remember, if you'd like to introduce an upcoming episode, please click the Join the Conversation link and leave us your recorded message.

This week's episode starts with a brief look back at last year, followed by a short description of what first-timers can expect this weekend as they start their runDisney journey.

We're all going to be at WDW for the races, but we can't forget that the Food and Wine festival is still in full swing. The gang talks about some of their favorite F&W booths, favorite dishes, and maybe even a favorite dessert or beverage. If we missed any of you favorites, let us know!

In our Podcasts We Listen To segment this week, we're please to have a special guest. Westin Galloway is the producer for Jeff's You Can Do It! podcast. This excellent podcast features Jeff telling us about his time as a world-class distance runner and member of the 1972 US Olympic Team. You'll love hearing Jeff relive those great moments. You Can Do It! also features terrific interviews with Jeff's running friends (including our friend, Brittany Charboneau). We didn't let Westin off easy though. We also chatted with him about Jeff's new running app and other new things coming to the Jeff Galloway running experience.

With the first run of the season comes our first runDisney Roll Call! We run down the list of all of you who told us you would be at WDW this weekend. This is a tradition we began last season, and one that has grown tremendously. We have over 100 names in this week's roll call! Don't forget to stand up when you hear your name.

Our good friend, Nate, is our guest in this week's Race Report Spotlight. Nate was in Washington DC for the Marine Corps Marathon Weekend, but "just" the marathon was not enough for Nate. No, he ran his first ultra, the MCM 50K.

  • 55: runDisney Expo Virtual Queue, Galloway Pace Groups, and the Be Our Guest Podcast

Rise and Runner Sarah introduces this week's podcast episode. If you want to leave us an intro to be used, click the Join The Conversation link.

We start off with quick apologies and alibis chat with last week's intro guest so  Bob can tell Joshua and his mother, Nicole, that he is sorry for calling him Justin.

The discussion then turns to the new Expo Virtual Queue for entry to the runDisney merchandise area on the first day of the expo. We discuss some of the pros and cons we see with this new way to enter. You will need to join a virtual queue at 7:30 a.m. and have up to 6 people total in your party. You will not be allowed to enter the merchandise area on first day of expo without a virtual queue time. This queue is only for the runDisney merchandise shop and not the fitness expo or bib pickup.

We are joined by returning guest Chris Twigs and and welcome Chris Turner to discuss running with a Galloway pacer.  After a brief introduction, Chris Turner discusses running with a Galloway pacer at a runDisney event or any event that features a Galloway pace group. We go over some of the following topics:

    • How do you join a pace group?
    • How close do you come to your advertised pace?
    • Do you run the same pace the whole race ?
    • Will there be pacers in all corrals?
    • Do people duck in and out for race photos?

If you want to run with a pacer you can chat with a pacer at Jeff Galloway's booth at the Expo.

On the Podcasts We Listen To segment, we  chat with our friend  Mike from the the Be Our Guest Podcast.  Mike hosts an excellent podcast and has great tips on planning your Walt Disney World vacation.

Listeners have asked us where to cheer during the races, so we give some of our tips and insight on cheering locations for Wine and Dine. If you want more info, check out our friend Kristen from Running in Makeups Video that has a section on spectating.

We announced the drop of our new merchandise pre-order on our website of our new logo shirts.

On the Race Report Spotlight this week, we head back to the Granite State and chat with Heather about the Loco Half Marathon in Newmarket, NH. Heather talked about the challenges of being in a push-rim racing chair and about being a part of the Roll Disney Community.

  • 53: The Council of Costumes Returns, the Emotion of Marathons, and Disney with the Ducks

This week's episode intro is courtesy of Rise and Runner Tara. You can be picked to intro the show by clicking the Join The Conversation link and leaving us a intro.

We have a full house this week as we are joined by our friends Pamela and Kristen (Running in Makeup / Dare to Dopey) as members of our Council of Costumes . Fellow Council member Cindy was not able to join us for this recording .

The training schedule this week for Wine and Dine Weekend is 4 miles with one of them being the Magic Mile. Those running the Goofy or Dopey Challenges during Marathon Weekend have a 7 and 17 mile back-to-back weekend. Those "just" running the marathon have 17 miles on the plan. We get a training update from Lexi who had 26 miles on her schedule, so she ran the Towpath Marathon in Cleveland, Ohio as a catered training run. We then get into the range of emotions we run into (no pun intended) during a marathon.

We got our first look at the Princess Half Marathon Weekend medals that were released by runDisney this week. Listen to our takes on the medals and some of little things we noticed.

The Council of Costumes returns as we are joined by our friends Kristen (Running in Makeup / Dare to Dopey) and Pamela. The conversation covers multiple topics: costumes for Wine and Dine weekend, group costumes, alternate takes on the themes of races, and much more to get your costumes ready for race weekend.

We introduced a new segment this week that we will be featuring from time to time called Podcasts We Listen To. The inaugural podcast for this segment is Disney with the Ducks. We sit down and chat with the Ducks on how they started their podcast.

On this week's Race Report Spotlight we take a trip to the Windy City for the Chicago Marathon. We talk with Emily and Rob about running the Marathon and spectator support on the course.

  • 52: Running Disney for Charity, the Jeff Galloway App, and the London Marathon

On this week's episode of the Rise and Run Podcast will be discussing running for a charity in relation to runDisney, charity fundraising, and ideas to reach your fundraising goals.

Before our charity discussion, we announce the winners of the Instagram contest to give away five Rise and Run Podcast tumblers. Entries were put in a spinning wheel and picked at random, and if a listener added a favorite episode, they received a bonus entry.

With a lot of our listeners running for a charity for the first time this year, we wanted to provide an episode on charity fundraisers to help fuel ideas to help you reach your fundraising goals for the upcoming runDisney season. Allie and Greg start the discussion with how and why they run for their respective charities. We are then joined by Peter Brookhart from The Brookhart Project.  Peter and the gang discuss creative ways to fundraise for your charity bib.

Next, we are joined by Cheri  Witt to discuss the new Jeff Galloway App that was released this week.

With the Chicago Marathon occurring this weekend, Jack reminds our listeners to check the course by watching her Chicago 2021 video plus many more on the Passport to Run  YouTube channel which she does with Lexie.

On this weeks Race Report Spotlight we head across the pond to London for the 2022 TCS London Marathon were Rise and Runner’s Madge and Amie participated in this world major.
