Private Practice Success Stories

Starting a Practice While on Maternity Leave with Ashtyn Mouton

Listen Later

Have you ever felt burnt out with your job as an SLP?

As busy practitioners, it can be overwhelming to think about starting a business while trying to manage our full-time jobs. This is why maternity leave is the perfect time to take the leap.

In this episode of Private Practice Success Stories, I sat down with Ashtyn Mouton to talk about how she did just that. For Ashtyn, after becoming a mother, a flexible schedule was more important than ever because she needed to be there for her daughter whenever she needed her. Ashtyn knew that investing in herself was key to taking control of her personal, professional, and financial life.

Ashtyn Mouton, M.Ed., CCC-SLP, is the owner of Simple Speech Therapy. She is a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist in the Central Florida area. She has been practicing as an SLP for over 6 years and has worked with children and adults of all ages in schools, skilled nursing facilities, and in private practice.

Ashtyn holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She graduated from Florida State University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Science and Disorders and graduated from Valdosta State University in 2015 with a Master of Education degree in Communication Disorders.

Ashtyn is thrilled and motivated to be offering speech and language therapy to children in the Davenport and Orlando areas. As a new mom, she understands the importance of creating trusting relationships with people who engage with her child. She looks forward to building lasting relationships with her clients and their families.

In Today's Episode, We Discuss:

  • How to gain momentum when starting your practice
  • Tips for renting an office space
  • How Ashtyn made the decision to leave her school SLP job
  • Why you don’t need a brick and mortar office to start
  • How to decide on what to make investments in
  • Tips for starting your business without debt
  • The benefits of being private pay only

Ashtyn is the epitome of the perfect Start Your Private Practice student. She invested in herself, she did the work, and she now has a successful private practice to show for it. She is growing at a rate that is comfortable for her and she gets to call all of the shots.
