How To Not Get Sick And Die

Sugar Binges: Maybe It’s Not About Your Emotions with Psychologist Glenn Livingston Ph.D. | EP 305

Listen Later

What if you don’t need to do deep emotional work to break up with sugar? It’s very easy to get caught up in your story of trauma followed by continuing to eat yourself into oblivion because the deeper you go with your emotional work, the more reasons you’ll find to eat, soothe and comfort yourself - why? It’s familiar and familiar is safe and predictable. Despite that though you likely still want to change so you lose weight and live longer and that’s where today’s podcast gives both hope because it talks about recovering from sugar cravings and sugar binges without putting much emphasis on emotional drivers and instead more focus on the enforced habits and structures that surround your food.

On this episode we discussed:

  • How sugar companies sell you stuff unethically
  • Unethical marketing strategies of sugar companies
  • How to deal with your inner rebel - the one that wants the damn chocolate no matter what!
  • Do rules make you rebellious with food? What to do instead.
  • Having clear goals and clear targets to work towards so you know how well you’re doing
  • Why your reptilian brain acts like a 2 year old
  • Why your food rules need to have some flexibility
  • Managing the overwhelm of giving up your food FOREVER!
  • Being binge free in the present, not tomorrow or next time.
  • Feeding your inner pig - check episode 96 for more
  • You must start identifying with the idea of “getting high with food”
  • The science of cravings
  • Predictable reinforcement
  • Why random reinforcement is the worst thing you can do for sugar cravings and binges
