Ready to stop battling intrusive thoughts, difficult emotions, and nervous system activation? Explore the End The Anxiety Program at https://anxietyguyprograms.com. Episode Description: In today's episode, we explore a piece of anxiety recovery that can easily be overlooked: grief. Grief doesn't always arrive as obvious sadness. It can build quietly through years of holding things in, staying strong, pushing forward, suppressing tears, and never fully allowing yourself to acknowledge what hurt. Over time, that emotional accumulation may show up as tension, exhaustion, nervous system activation, irritability, heaviness, or a sense that your body is carrying more than you consciously realize. We'll talk about what can happen when grief is finally given permission to move, through acknowledgement, emotional expression, crying, and allowing the younger parts of you to feel what they may never have felt safe enough to express before. Instead of immediately asking, "How do I get rid of this anxiety?", another powerful question may be: "What am I still carrying that I never allowed myself to grieve?" Healing may sometimes involve less fighting and more permission, permission to feel, acknowledge, express, and finally allow what has been held inside for far too long. ▶️ Listen and Subscribe 🍎 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/health-anxiety-podcast-show/id1461441374 🎧 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/79GbkgP2sxA8FJ97Qk1GKZ ▶️ YouTube: https://youtube.com/@theanxietyguy1 🌐 Anxiety Guy Podcast Episode Archive: https://theanxietyguy.com/podcasts/ 👥 About Dennis and Connect 📸 Instagram: https://instagram.com/theanxietyguy ▶️ YouTube: https://youtube.com/@theanxietyguy1 📘 Facebook: https://facebook.com/theanxietyguy 🌐 Official Website: https://theanxietyguy.com 📝 Disclaimer This podcast is for educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Rebuild trust in your body through daily guidance and nervous system retraining: 👉 Start the Health Anxiety Recovery Program ✨ Today's Episode: Your Symptoms Aren't the Real Problem Health anxiety convinces you that your symptoms must disappear before you can finally feel safe. But the constant monitoring, resistance, and urgency to fix them may be what keeps your nervous system on alert. In this episode, I share the inner shift that changes how you respond to uncomfortable sensations. When you stop treating every symptom as a problem that must be solved immediately, you begin teaching your brain and body that the experience may be uncomfortable without automatically meaning danger. The goal is not to ignore your symptoms. It is to stop allowing them to determine whether or not you feel safe. This is where trust begins, the fear cycle starts to weaken, and lasting healing becomes possible. ▶️ Listen and Subscribe 🍎 Apple Podcasts: Listen to the Health Anxiety Podcast Show 🎧 Spotify: Listen to the Health Anxiety Podcast Show ▶️ YouTube: Subscribe to The Anxiety Guy 🌐 Episode page: Listen to Your Symptoms Aren't the Real Problem 👥 About Dennis and Connect Instagram: @theanxietyguy YouTube: The Anxiety Guy Facebook: The Anxiety Guy Facebook Page 📝 Disclaimer This podcast is for educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Ready to stop battling worry, intrusive thoughts, difficult emotions, and nervous system activation? Explore the End The Anxiety Program and Monthly Recovery Coaching at https://anxietyguyprograms.com Description: In today's episode, we explore 3 ways your inner protector may be keeping anxiety alive: worry, anticipation, and regret. Your inner protector is constantly trying to keep you safe, prepared, and in control, but when it becomes overactive, it can keep you trapped in what might happen, what could go wrong, or what you wish you had done differently. We'll look at how worry feeds uncertainty, anticipation creates fear before anything happens, and regret keeps you emotionally tied to the past. The goal isn't to fight this protective part of you, but to recognize when protection has become overprotection and begin responding with more trust, flexibility, and presence. A powerful question to ask is: "Is this protecting me from something happening right now, or is it trying to protect me from uncertainty?" Ready to stop battling worry, intrusive thoughts, difficult emotions, and nervous system activation? Explore the End The Anxiety Program and Monthly Recovery Coaching at https://anxietyguyprograms.com Description: Health anxiety can become more than a reaction to symptoms. Over time, the mind and nervous system can become conditioned to familiar states of fear, scanning, tension, and survival. In this episode, Dennis explores the emotional refractory period and how repeated emotional states can keep the system locked into familiar patterns, even when there is no immediate danger. When fear has been practiced for long enough, the body can begin to expect it, the mind can search for reasons to justify it, and ordinary sensations can quickly become interpreted through the lens of threat. We'll look at why health anxiety can feel so automatic, why reassurance often brings only temporary relief, and how repeatedly checking, monitoring, and anticipating symptoms can reinforce the very state you are trying to escape. Most importantly, you'll learn why recovery is not simply about convincing yourself that you are safe. It is about gradually teaching your system that it no longer has to return to the same familiar emotional environment of fear and survival.
