Most job descriptions are pretty basic. They list the essential skills needed for the position, the rate of pay, and how to apply for the job. But if you’re looking for someone who will be a PERFECT fit, then writing the perfect job description may require a bit more thought.

Remember the days where you would pull out your map to figure out how to get to your next destination? Now, you just open an app on your phone to find the fastest route, even when you miss an exit or take a wrong turn.

When you work with your patients and devise a treatment plan, do they have to try and figure out their location on a 1993 map or is there a clearly designed plan that points out the landmarks along the way?

Well, my friend, one thing is certain: patients need clear direction. They want to know where they’re going, and how they’re going to get there. And our job as practitioners is to provide a clear map that helps them do just that.

I firmly believe that a solid treatment plan should consist of five core items. This allows you to cover all the bases - from supplements they need, to where they’re at in the process, as well as how they should contact you if the need arises. This basic information can get lost in the shuffle when you’re trying to give them all the information at one time.

In today’s podcast, I’ll show you how to create a winning treatment plan that will help your patients feel much more confident about their journey. And I’ve got a little something tucked inside this episode you won’t want to miss!

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “it takes a village” applied to all kinds of situations, whether it’s raising a child, packing up and moving, or even starting your business. Truth be told, it DOES take a village to grow your wellness practice.

Being able to draw on the brilliance of other practitioners has been a saving grace for me throughout my journey as a functional medicine practitioner. Honestly, I feel much more confident knowing I have access to experienced practitioners who can provide insight and suggestions when I get stuck.

But it didn’t start out that way. I didn’t have a community of practitioners to lean on for support. I just had to figure out how to help the people who walked in my door it out by myself. And it was no fun.

Early in my practice, I had my own “aha” moment when I finally figured out how other practitioners were getting their successes even faster. And guess what? They don’t do it alone. The power of a clinical community is soooooo underrated but it is a total game changer when we can tap into the resources of others.

So instead of being the Nancy Drew in your wellness community, I encourage you to find a community you can draw from and so give back to. Growth is a two-way street my friend, and the more you give, the richer the information and deeper conversations become!

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I find that practitioners fall into entrepreneurship almost accidentally. We want to practice our craft and help others achieve their own health goals and the only way to do that is to a) start our own business/practice or b) go to work for someone else in their business.

I’ve found that most practitioners choose option A which is perfectly fine, except…. we are much better at being the service provider than the business owner. After all, there probably wasn’t a “How to Be A Business Boss 101” requirement at your school or university.

Your business is just like one of your patients – it needs to be nurtured, cared for, and then maintained. And if you don’t have a clue about how to do that (most business owners don’t….), it can result in chaos down the road. But there’s a super easy way to think about how to have the best of both worlds by keeping your ‘practitioner brain’ out of business conversations and enlisting the sage advice of your CEO brain.

When you step into the office each morning, do you feel like the commander-in-chief or the coordinator of chaos? In truth, business systems will help make your life at work feel more grounded and stable, just like the foundation of a house. If it’s weak, wobbly, and unstable, the walls, ceiling and floors will be as well. And who wants that???

I’ll be talking you through the four stages of business systems (you’ll find yourself in one of them I guarantee!) and then give you some super easy steps to begin creating your own.
