This week we welcome watch and jewelry industry veteran Barbara Palumbo, aka What’s On Her Wrist to the podcast. Barbara brings a refreshing perspective on the industry that acknowledges the breadth of the market, and the forces that drive retail decisions. In the process, she brings some much needed levity to the space, and serves as an important reminder of keeping the bigger picture in mind. In this discussion, she shares her journey into the watch space, and how her connections have shaped her perspective of the industry.

This week we welcome Justin, aka The Wristorian to the podcast. Justin is an amateur sleuth helping tell the real world stories behind the known and unknown watches through history. The Wristorian Instagram account documents moments in history with archival photos and documentation placing certain watches on the wrists of often influential or important figures. This work brings a rich context to these watches (and their stories) that is often missing from popular culture, and serves to bring awareness to the underrepresented or unrecognized. In this discussion, we talk about the work that goes into his research, and how it has shifted his perspective on watch enthusiasm.

This week is a solo cast from Blake Buettner discussing some new changes to the YouTube channel, as well as a closer look at the new Bugatti Tourbillon (which is a car, not a watch). This car has many parallels with the watch world, and automotive journalist Henry Catchpole does an excellent job of highlighting this in a video for Hagerty, which you should watch right here. In this episode, we add some further context around the car from the perspective of the watch industry.

This week I’m thrilled to welcome Kenneth Lam of Arken Watches to the podcast. Ken is bringing his unique vision to life through Arken, a project that began as a quest to make the perfect personal watch which has blossomed into a now thriving young micro brand. In this discussion we talk about what it means to design a tool watch, where inspiration comes from, and how to create a distinctive look and feel without relying too heavily on the established ideas already out there. Ken offers his insight on the thought process behind this, and how the brand has come this far in such a short period of time.

This week I'm happy to welcome the CEO of Parmigiani Fleurier, Guido Terreni. Parmigiani is a brand that has released some of the most interesting watches in recent memory across their modern sport-chic Tonda collection, and most recently with the introduction of a new Toric (you can see my initial reaction to the Toric from Geneva right here). In this discussion, Guido shares insights to what it means to create a formal watch, and how Parmigiani thinks a bit differently about the genre as a whole. It's difficult to argue with the results, but his thinking certainly adds a level of depth to the overall approach taken.
