At 46, this web developer and digital marketing specialist has found a place where I love who I am, where I am, and what I do. My future is sparkling with possibilities. I’m originally from Stratford, New Zealand, newly married and living with my adoring husband in Maryland, USA.

I grew up in a large family with 4 adopted brothers, 2 biological sisters and a multitude of foster children. It was a busy home with lots of mouths to feed. When I hit puberty, I started putting on the weight and it never seemed to leave. I had a very negative body image and over the years the weight crept up.

By my mid-20’s, I had reached my highest weight of 95 kgs (210 pounds). It was time to make a change. I started eating healthy foods on a calorie restricted diet. I lost 22 kgs (50 pounds), felt great but knew I still had a long way to go. Over the next 18 years I bounced up and down but could never find the magic answer to sustainable weight loss.

In 2015 I sold my house, closed my real estate business and moved to the US. In the last 6 years I’ve completed a degree, found a great job at a leading company and met my husband. He is an amazing cook. An American cook. Cheesesteak hoagies, pizza, jambalaya, tacos, shrimp linguine, smoked pork and ribs, potato and meatloaf, po’boys… the list goes on. And so did the weight.

Thankfully, my mother-in-law came to the rescue. In December 2018 she introduced me to Gin Stephen’s Delay, Don’t Deny. It clicked with me because it was the way my body had always told me it preferred to be fed. I was never a breakfast or lunch eater. Before I even finished the book, I jumped straight into 20:4 and have been doing that ever since.

To begin with I was just happy not to be putting on the weight. Then the weight slowly started dropping. It took 18 months to reach my goal and I’ve been maintaining for the last year. I’ve learned to listen to my body and stop listening to those who don’t know better.

Hi! My name is Yari (pronounced Yadi) Toleno, 46 year old Southern California transplant mom of two girls, ages 23 and 11. I currently live in Cupertino, California, about 36 miles outside of San Francisco. I enjoy time with my husband who works for Facebook, traveling, having fun and being a dedicated stay at home mom who always volunteers for everything. Yes, I am that PTA mom. My latest exercise craze is riding the Peloton, which I really enjoy.

During college I gained the Freshman 15, which quickly went to the Sophomore 40.The heaviest recorded weight was 240 pounds, but my body likes to stay around 220. I have been on numerous diets beginning when I was around 19 years old, but have always remained active. I have a muscular build so it was bit easy to hide some weight, but once I got over 200 I can no longer hide the fact that I was obese. I seem to lose the same 20 pounds consistently. When I was pregnant with my second child I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. It went away after she was born, but I went back to my old eating habits and became a diabetic within one year.

I started my IF journey when I changed doctors because I got a very scary blood work report and realized I was heading towards insulin and death. My new doctor is through Stanford and introduced me to Dr. Fung’s book Obesity Code. I started IF that day, October 19, 2020 and never looked back. I have lost 40 pounds, went from a size XL, 16 to small, medium 8/10. My husband has lost 60 pounds doing this journey alongside with me. My IF protocol tends to be 20 hours, but I have been known to open my window at 18 hours. The last two blood test reports show I have completely reversed my diabetes (within three months) and confirmed it is gone (6 month mark). I also no longer have fatty liver and cholesterol has lowered. Overall I am quite healthy now and have more energy than before, and that is saying a lot, since most friends comment on how much energy I have to do all I do. The IF lifestyle is life changing and has been a lifesaver…wow that is a lot of life in this sentence, but it is so true. IF is amazing!!!

I really like learning about the science and nutrition of intermittent fasting as I had a lot of interesting comments at the start from very well educated people. I was a self employed builder for around 30 years and now look after some of the facilities I helped build.

I hung up my tool bag about 11 years ago. I now work in a very science based industry where we manufacture radioactive isotopes for injecting into patient before they have a PET scan for cancer diagnostics and look after 6 facilities in Australia and NZ.

Tania is a Maternal Child Health Nurse. She started as a nurse, doing her training in Invercargill, NZ and moved to Australia when she became a Midwife and now a Maternal Child Health Nurse.

We met in the UK and to cut a long story short ended up married now for 33 years and have four children 3 boys and 1 girl and now have 2.5 grandchildren.

 I've been one of those dieters, who for the past 25 years has had my main goals as:

So, in 25 years this has never happened and even if it had, I am under no illusion that probably within a year I would have gained weight back and felt like such a failure....

With 2020, all my goals have been revisited.

Two things happened, first, I saw a photo of myself at Christmas 2019, isn't it ALWAYS a photo that starts things and secondly I received a phone call from a relative telling me I could potentially need a major health check as she had been diagnosed with SCAD, Spontaneous coronary artery dissection, an uncommon emergency condition that occurs when a tear forms in a blood vessel in the heart, causing a heart attack, abnormalities in heart rhythm or sudden death, yes, very scary.  Both my parents passed away suddenly in 2016, Mum, a healthy living 70 year old, from heart related issue and then my Dad, age 69, 7 months later, again heart related; I believe he was very much 'broken' after Mum died.  SCAD isn't really known about or spoken about so I began a very fast journey through medical checks and thinking I was suddenly living with a time bomb attached to me, with a young family my stress levels went through the roof.

As I hit this low point and thought to myself, everyone is talking about the 2020 lockdown 14 pounds, I couldn't afford to gain any more weight, I was already grossly overweight at 212lbs. I typed in the search bar, Gin (meaning the drink) and weight loss and Gin Stephens, author and intermittent faster popped up.  I know it is a cliche and I've heard many others say this before, but Graeme you really have, I believe, changed my life and the life of my friends for the better, in fact, you might have even saved mine, so thank you!!

I have enjoyed and learnt so much from reading The Fasting Highway , listening to your podcasts and then going on to follow Gin’s podcasts and others. I know that IF is something I can do for life, this is just me now.  Initially I made mistakes and learnt about my body and reactions to certain food groups but eventually the weight began to come off. I'm now 40lb down and delighted!!! I feel like a new person. Despite being on a plateau for a few months I'm now trying ADF and with a weight trending app I can see how although the weight has slowed down, I am slowly losing again, which is great.  I know eventually I will achieve my goal of 150lbs

Married 25 years to one of the strongest men I know who has supported me through my IF journey while he himself was battling leukemia during the pandemic. My Story My name is Candee and I have been battling my weight for what seems like forever. My dieting history started at the age of 10 when my parents put me on my first diet at the recommendation of my pediatrician. I was switched to skim milk and limited to one helping of dinner and no dessert. It was then that I learned how to sneak food. At 12 I asked to go away to “fat camp”. I found one in California and my parents agreed and I went to San Diego for 6 weeks. I lost approximately 25 pounds through severe calorie restriction and exercise. I think it took me about 12 weeks to gain it back and then some because I didn’t really learn how to follow the program and my parents didn’t do it for me. I have done every diet under the sun. I always started a diet when I was around 40 pounds above my weight. I’ve lost 40 pounds numerous times. In 1999 I joined WW after a friend lost around 50 pounds. I was successful and lost 42 pounds and was even approached about coming on staff. I joined the WW staff in 2000 and worked for them for over 16 years. During my tenure I was able to maintain my weight except for my three pregnancies in which I gained over 40 pounds and successfully lost the weight each time. I left WW due to poor management. When I stopped working for them I gained around 30 pounds and decided to do keto. Keto wasn’t a great fit for me because I love to eat all kinds of foods and it was very limiting. I heard about IF during that time, but didn’t really know too much about. In 2018 I was desperate. My weight was up again and I was creeping up to the 40 pound mark. I was working in health care and a mutual friend/patient came in and looked amazing. We talked about IF and she told me about DDD. I purchased the book before she was out of the parking lot and read it throughout the day. I started fasting that day. With IF I have been able to lose around 30 pounds. I am not sure exactly how much I have lost at this point because I have broken up with my scale. My focus right now is health. I turned 50 this year and for me it is about a feeling. If my clothes fit, I know I am on the right track. I pretty much follow OMAD except for once a week I do mealless monday ( currently). I run, practice yoga and walk. Most days my fasting protocol is 20/4 or 22/2. I am learning what foods make me feel good and which don’t. My goal is to continue to be active and be a great example for my boys. I want to keep up with them. I have started my own FB group to help and encourage others.

We’re Katy and Amy Miller, two sisters who live together in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. We’ve both lost and gained weight over the years – we’d count calories, eat smaller portions and healthy snacks, lose weight and then slowly but surely fall off the wagon and gain it back.

This year we decided to be proper grown-ups (we’re both in our 40s, for the record) and actually go to our doctors for a check-up. It was well overdue given our family history of hypertension and diabetes (Mum had been nagging us for ages, which we’re now grateful for!). It turns out that we both have high blood pressure and Katy’s blood sugar levels were at a diabetic level.

Advice from a diabetes nurse and panic-googling led Katy to Dr Jason Fung’s YouTube channel. The science just made sense to us – and it explained our previous failed attempts to keep weight off. So we started on the fasting highway in February and we haven’t looked back. We both do anything from 16:8 to OMAD – it depends on how busy we are that day and how hungry we are.

We’re pairing it with a keto diet in order to get the best results in relation to blood sugar – and it’s working! Katy’s blood sugars had come down to the normal range at her next bloods three months later.

We’re foodies – we love food and cooking. When we first approached our new way of eating we were slightly worried that it would take the joy out of cooking. We couldn’t have been more wrong! Fasting has made food both more and less precious. We love the meals we have, but we don’t haveto eat. And there’s incredible keto recipes out there.

Since starting this way of eating in February, Katy’s lost 19 kgs (42 lbs), and Amy’s lost 20 kgs (44 lbs). Katy’s only a few kilos from her goal weight, and Amy’s got another 19 kgs (42 lbs) to go. We have no intention to stop what we’re doing when we get to our respective goals though, we’re having too much fun!

I am a 46 year old wife and mother of three teenagers (14, 17, 19) and live in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota USA. I used to work as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit but have been at home, full time, for the past 7-8 years.

I never had issues with my weight until after having children. I would say that after each pregnancy I would keep about 10-15 pounds of baby weight as my "new normal". I also began drinking soda following my first pregnancy. It was my way of getting caffeine since I was not a coffee drinker. It is a habit that I still struggle with today to kick.

I have never been a dieter. I grew up with my mother dieting all the time and I think it was a turn off to me to ever want to be like that. Even after gaining and keeping some pregnancy weight over the years, I was still satisfied enough with myself and my appearance. It wasn't until I was 39-40 years old, when my weight just started to creep up on it's own without changing anything about my lifestyle, that I started to get bothered. I assume it was due to hormonal changes, but in one year I was up 5 pounds. Then another 5 the next. And the next and so on until reaching my heaviest weight of 198 pounds (90kg) at 5'5" tall.

I have a friend that had lost weight with intermittent fasting, and at the end of January this year (2021) I decided to google search and learn about what IF was. I stumbled upon Gin Stephens' Delay, Don't Deny and downloaded the audiobook. WIthin two days I had listened to the whole thing. It all made perfect sense to me, and on February 1st I began my IF journey. My husband has recently joined me in this lifestyle and is still the only person I have brought myself to tell what I am doing.

To date I have lost 29 pounds (13kg) doing 18:6.
