  • 021. Rebels Apothecary: The Healing Magic of Cannabis, CBD, & Medicinal Mushrooms - Jenny Sansouci
Jenny Sansouci is the author and writer of Rebels Apothecary: A Practical Guide To The Healing Magic Of Cannabis, CBD, and Mushrooms. I first discovered Jenny years ago, as she’s a health coach and thought leader in the wellness community, and the host of the extremely popular blog Healthy Crush.Jenny’s new book was not written because she has a fascination with cannabis and medicinal mushrooms. The book wrote itself when Jenny discovered her father was diagnosed in 2017 with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. For those of you that don’t know, that is essentially a death sentence. However, being a fearless health coach with years and years of knowledge, Jenny went deep, and began devouring everything she could about cancer, specifically pancreatic cancer. Over and over again, Jenny kept stumbling across cannabis, CBD, and medicinal mushrooms in her research. Jenny made suggestions to her father and he was totally onboard. One of the interesting things in our conversation, was I learned Jenny took an “additive” approach to her father’s cancer, versus subtracting or taking things out of his diet. In congruence with chemotherapy, Jenny’s father added cannabis, CBD, and medicinal mushrooms to help augment his recovery. Her father not only improved in terms of his cancer lessening (as shown on doctor’s visits and scans), but also his mood and appetite drastically improved, as well as eliminating his nausea. This type of approach with our clients or people we care for is a valuable lesson. Many times we want to put people on a “keto diet” and introduce fasting and all types of restrictions, which as we know can be very difficult on a person on top of all the stress they are experiencing. So this additive approach can be very effective, and was a huge lightbulb moment for me as a coach. This is an amazing episode; Jenny talks about the different strains of CBD and their effects, how to pick a CBD and why, how to cook with CBD/cannabis, how to hack menstrual cramps, her favorite brands, the most powerful medicinal mushrooms for cancer, and much more. Enjoy!Timeline4:31 - how Jenny thought about helping her dad with cancer10:53 - The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) and how it works14:06 - Difference between THC & CBD15:04 - Why strains matter?19:03 - The “Entourage Effect” & full-spectrum vs broad spectrum vs isolate21:45 - Will you show positive on a drug test with CBD?22:28 - CBD and cooking25:02 - How to hack menstrual cramps29:20 - How to know if the dosing is right33:00 - How to determine how to pick a CBD product33:40 - Jenny’s favorite brands38:30 - The difference between ingestion, inhalation, tinctures, and topicals41:14 - What is Rick Simpson Oil?43:27 - How cannabis works in terms of fighting cancer45:56 - Medicinal mushrooms and why they are effective48:30 - Jenny’s favorite mushrooms53:27 - What Jenny would do if she were diagnosed with cancerFor one on one life or health coaching, contact me at https://www.joelevancoaching.com

  • 020. Deep Nutrition: Unlocking Your Genome, Good Fats Vs Bad Fat (Part 1 of 3)
This is the first of a three part episode, where I am going to dissect some key nutrition concepts. After reading the book, Deep Nutrition, several years ago, I had learned so much about how our nutrition effects our genes, our symmetry, and much more. Even if you didn’t read the book, there were a few main take-aways, that if you only did these things, you could lead a much healthier, vibrant, and disease-free life. Further, I see so many people making a huge mistakes when it comes to the types of oils they should be using and it makes me cringe. The problem is, it’s not your fault. The media along with several governmental groups such as the American Heart Association (AMA) and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) have led people astray since the 1960’s. With so much time overlapped, people just continue to do what generations before them have done, or they just don’t know any better because the new, real science is not being promoted. These are easy fixes, but if not addressed, 30 years will pass and you’ll be on six different medications for your blood pressure, cholesterol, and sexual performance. In this episode I talk about heart disease, cholesterol, LDL vs HDL, good fats vs bad fats, and the history of this science. It’s ironic as at the time of creating this episode, other doctors and wellness warriors are trying to tell the other side of the coronavirus pandemic, and they are being silenced and censored by the mainstream media, as well as social media outlets. In the 1960’s, the same type of censorship was orchestrated, and Americans were told to change thier diet, eat certain foods, and heart disease which was at all time lows skyrocketed. And so did the pocketbooks of Big Pharma. Enjoy the episode! If you're looking to go deep in your life, and you're interested in improving your health or reaching higher levels in your life, please contact me for one on one coaching at [email protected]

  • 019. Fifty Is The New Twenty (Aging Backwards) - Steve Vierra
In this week’s episode, I sit down with the supple leopard, Steve Vierra. I first met Steve almost 10 years ago, where we both worked at the Oakland Police Dept. Steve is exactly 50.7 years old, but he looks and moves like a 25 year old. Steve is a huge health nut, a former bodybuilder, movement specialist, and health expert, and has so much wisdom to offer, I figured it was time to have him on the show.As a police officer, Steve is expected to be a ‘tactical athlete,” but as we all know, many police officers fall victims to early retirements, due to stress, herniated discs, heart attacks, cancer, etc. One of the things that I think has made Steve age so gracefully and avoid all these common pitfalls seen by most officers is his mindset. Police work is such a negative profession, that only sees the worst in people, and is completely thankless. It’s easy to become jaded and hardened. Not Steve. He always finds the good in something and looks for the opportunity where others aren’t.Steve also makes his body his top priority. Steve expresses this thru movement and has taken many courses and many certifications to learn more about the way the body is supposed to move. After a short career in bodybuilding, and tearing his quad, and seeing numerous doctors, Steve talks about this journey thru health and how he never was satisfied with one person’s opinion because “he knew his body” better than any doctor. Steve talks a lot about how awareness is the key to getting over most injuries, but most people lack that completely. Steve also shares his supplements and daily routines, especially important for first responders that get little to no sleep and work shift work. He’s an avid biohacker, and regularly intermittent fasts, throws and carries kegs for muscle building, does cold plunges and infrared sauna, and much more. If you’re looking to optimize your health, there’s a lot you can look from Steve’s philosophy and approach.

  • 018. Hack Your Air & Improve Lung Function
In this week's episode I highlight, five hacks (and a bonus six hack) of how to improve the air quality around you, as well as improve lung function. Ever since the last two years, since we were bombarded with the "California fires," I've been thinking of ways to protect my children and improve overall immunity. This is even more important now with the Coronavirus hysteria, and people trying to protect themselves from airborne pathogens. I talk about an air purifier that is robust and kills viruses, my top supplements for improving lung function (as well as two foods to eliminate if you're lungs are compromised), my favorite face mask, and a cheap device that can radically improve lung health and eradicate bacteria in the lungs. If you're interested in reaching a higher level in your life or improving your health and getting to the root problem of whatever ails you, please contact me at https://www.joelevancoaching.com/ for more information.

  • 017. The 5 Fictitious Foods (That Are Not Healthy for Kids)
In this episode I highlight the Five so called "healthy foods" that you might be eating or you might be feeding your kids, thinking that you're providing them nourishing foods. If you or your kids have bloating or learning/focusing issues, or autoimmune conditions; some of these issues could be related to your diet. A lot of this information can be found in Dr Gundry's book "The Plant Paradox" and the "The Plant Paradox Cookbook." Dr Gundry is a heart surgeon who has treated his own health issues as well as his patients using diet and supplements. Dr Gundry also focuses on the lectins found in foods that appear to be a huge culprit in autoimmune conditions. • 015. Antiaging & Regenerative Medicine - Dr Jillian Shannon
This week’s episode I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr Jillain Shannon who’s a functional medicine doctor that specializes in anti-aging and regenerative medicine in San Francisco, CA. She works closely with regulating hormones, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, insomnia, autoimmune conditions, thyroid disease, joint injections and IV therapies.I was intrigued to meet Dr Shannon because she’s practicing cutting edge therapies such as intravenous NAD therapy, prolozone therapy for the joints, or PRP as well as “biohacking” or optimizing sexual function in men and women with “O” and “P” Shots as well as Gains Wave Technology. While I interviewed Dr Shannon I had her hook me up to my first IV NAD drip. NAD is an acronym for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, and is a coenzyme found in every cell within the body and is involved in many processes. Why get NAD IV therapy? Well, NAD has been shown to do the following things:- Assist with addiction recovery (alcohol, opioids, nicotine)- Improve depression- Improve brain health and neurological function- Improve mental clarity- Improve brain regeneration- Boost energy levels- Reduce overall fatigue- Restore muscle function and athletic performanceI was slightly nervous as people that have gotten NAD drips in the past have stated they feel a severe tightening in their chest, but then it later it goes away and they feel euphoric. Dr Shannon explained to me that’s because most physicians aren’t trained properly and are putting too much NAD in your system too fast. My first experience with NAD was actually quite pleasant and had no tightening in the chest at all. This is a great episode if you’re interested in how to get to the root cause of some malingering health conditions and how Dr Shannon tackles patient’s long term health issues. Dr Shannon is a pro when it comes to anti-aging and regenerative medicine and in the fall is looking to add peptides and ozone therapy to her already booming practice. I can’t wait to go in and get treated by her then again and do a part II with her. • 012. Kid's Health, Pregnancy Problems, & Vaccines - Dr Kristine Hicks
This week, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr Kristine Hicks. Dr Hicks is a chiropractor who specializes in the area of treating children and pre/post pregnant women. I first met Dr Hicks almost six years ago, after my first son turned about one year’s old. My son had just started walking, and then all of a sudden, he had started falling repeatedly. My wife noticed he was limping on one leg and it appeared to be the cause of all his falling. Unbeknownst to me at the time that there were chiropractors who specialized in the area of treating children. We made an appointment to see our pediatrician as well as Dr Hicks. Our pediatrician looked at our son quickly and performed a few tests. Afterwards, our pediatrician told us our son’s other leg was the problem, not the one that we saw him limping on. Then, he left us with saying, “Yeah there’s nothing we can do, this is normal actually, I see it all the time it’s just part of growing up.” The following day, we saw Dr Hicks. After performing her screening tests for our son, she concurred with us that the leg our son was limping on was the problem. Dr HIcks adjusted our son, and he was 90% better that day, walking more smoothly and not falling. After his second treatment, he was back to normal. Since then, we haven’t stopped going back to Dr Hicks for monthly routine maintenance.Like I mentioned, most of Dr Hicks clientele are also pregnant woman. After interviewing her, I couldn’t believe all the benefits women see from chiropractic pre, during, and after the birth of their child. Chiropractic can help with fertility, reduce breached births, and much more.Lastly, Dr HIcks is well versed in natural medicine and the dangers in vaccines. This is not a conversation to bash vaccines, but really just an opportunity to share knowledge. There were a lot of things I was unaware of when it comes to vaccines. We also talk about the Coronavirus and simple ways to keep yourself healthy. Tune into this episode and leave a comment of what you liked.
