I did not plan to give this talk. I arrived at the AIMS Symposium, realized how much of the room was aesthetics, and did not have a single slide on the oral skin bioregulators we have been working on for years. So I rebuilt it. What is happening in that room is worth paying attention to, because beauty and functional medicine are being pushed together and nobody has decided yet whether the plastic surgeons, the regenerative doctors, the orthomolecular people or the naturopaths end up owning it. The premise underneath all of it is simple enough. People who feel good on the inside want to look like it on the outside, and the inside is where the instruction actually gets written. So I skipped my usual hour of theory and went to the data. What a peptide is, what a bioregulator is, and why the distinction matters: peptides bind at the cell surface and signal, while bioregulators are two to four amino acids, small enough to enter the nucleus and sit down on the DNA, turning genes of aging down and youthful ones up, one tissue at a time. Then the skin studies. Sirtuin 1 and 6 and collagen synthesis in young and aged cultures, markers of proliferation and repair going one way, caspase-3 and MMP-9 going the other, and a human trial on a placenta derived dermatologic peptide measuring wrinkle depth, elasticity, hydration and pigment across twelve weeks. After that, the parts of the catalogue people ask me about most: the thyroid bioregulators and the separate thyroid axis version that is the one that touches antibodies, the brain and vascular bioregulators, the pancreas work in type 2 diabetes, muscle and grip strength, and the long-running biologic age trials out of Russia that rotate five to seven bioregulators and track telomere length and methylation age. I also tell the story of where all of this came from, which starts with the Soviet military noticing that its cosmonauts, jet pilots and submariners were aging far faster than they should have been. Take the mechanism seriously and the aesthetic result stops being the goal and starts being the receipt. - - - - - About the Host: Dr. Kent Holtorf, MD has spent most of his career on the patients other clinics send away: tick-borne illness, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, CIRS, mast cell activation, long COVID, and the multi-system cases that never fit one specialty. He is the medical director of Holtorf Medical Group, the founder and medical director of Integrative Peptides, and president and medical director of the National Academy of Hypothyroidism, a nonprofit built around the argument that thyroid diagnosis in the United States has not caught up with its own published literature. He came to peptides as a patient first. Years of chronic Lyme, Babesia, and Bartonella that did not respond to high-dose IV antibiotics ended in heart failure from fibrosis, and it was a course of peptides picked up abroad that turned it around. He has since given close to a hundred CME-approved presentations worldwide, published in peer-reviewed journals, sat on editorial boards in endocrinology and specialty medicine, and written Mold Illness: The Peptide Protocol for the Rapid Treatment of CIRS. This talk is the first time he has taken the bioregulator work into aesthetics. - - - - - Social Handles: Website: https://holtorfmed.comhttps://integrativepeptides.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/integrativepephttps://www.instagram.com/holtorfmedicalgroup - - - - - PODCAST Thank you for listening. A head injury does not stay in the head. In this episode of Peptides and Longevity, I share the talk I gave for Boston BioLife on treating traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress, and neurodegenerative disease as one connected problem instead of three separate ones. I walk through why the blood-brain barrier and the gut open at the same moment, how the immune system shifts and pulls mitochondria, hormones, and mast cells down with it, and which peptides I reach for first when a patient is not healing. If you have been told a brain injury just needs time, this is the mechanism nobody sat down and explained to you. - - - - - Kent Holtorf, MD, is the founder and medical director of Holtorf Medical Group.
