Post-Election Self Care (0:00:00)
For the past 7 days, the country has waited anxiously to hear the announcement that we have a victor in the presidential election. Not knowing the fate of the country has led to a lot of stress. According to our next guest, psychologist Steven Stosny, our emotions surrounding the presidential race are a result of election stress disorder. And it was impacting an especially high number of people this year. Despite the outcome and the stress that either precedes or follows it, we all need to take some time to take care for ourselves. Mental Health in the Workplace (0:52:50)
Over the past few years, we’ve been talking more and more about mental health. But is there still a taboo in the workplace? Mental health can have a huge impact on your performance at work—but it isn’t something we necessarily feel comfortable talking to our bosses about. However, the events of this year have caused many people’s mental health to dip into anxiety, depression, and unmanageable stress. It’s more important than ever that we talk about it. So, whether we’re a boss or employee, what can we do to approach conversations about mental health in the workplace? Here to share her thoughts with us is Nancy Spangler.
Practicing Self-Compassion (1:28:30)
I usually find it easy to give someone else the benefit of the doubt. I’m not one to hold grudges! But when it comes to myself, I can be my own harshest critic. Especially during such anxiety inducing times, I think it’s about time we practice a little more self-compassion. So what can we do to practice self-compassion? Here to talk us through it is Kristin Neff, author and pioneer of self-compassion research.

When’s the last time that you were so excited for something you couldn’t sleep the night before? For most of us, it might have been years. I think one of the best things about little kids is how excited they can get. No one knows how to anticipate things like kids do. And turns out, anticipation might be the thing that makes experiences that much sweeter. While I know it might seem difficult to find things to look forward to, it’s not impossible! Here to tell us more about what anticipation can do for us is happiness expert Gretchen Rubin.
