Keto dietitian Temple Stewart is our special interview guest on Episode 1659 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.
“People depend on what they hear and they’re inundated with news and USDA guideline posters. You’re swimming upstream trying to help people.”
– Temple Stewart
Temple Stewart (@the.ketogenic.nutritionist) is a Registered Dietitian, Certified Personal Trainer and Health Behavior Change Specialist. She played D1 soccer at the University of Tennessee Martin, which is where she received her degree in Dietetics. She completed her internship at the VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, FL, and currently works and lives in St. Petersburg, FL with her husband and two poodles, Axel and Rowdie.
Temple always played sports growing up and she was always fascinated with the way properly fueling her body impacted her performance on the field. Throughout college she developed a very unhealthy relationship with food and began using food rules or diets as punishment or for comfort. This behavior propelled her into learning all she could about food and how it impacts our bodies, ultimately making her choose to become a Registered Dietitian. Throughout the process, she began to learn how to eat for health and how to develop a healthy relationship with food. Along the road, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), furthermore increasing her interest in treating the body with nutrition.
Listen in today as Jimmy and Temple talk about her journey and why she believes that the ketogenic diet is how humans are wired to eat.

We’re shining the light back on saturated fat in this special JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1656. Want to know the latest on this important part of our diet? Stay tuned.
“If saturated fat is somehow the enemy, then wouldn’t we see a whole bunch of heart disease in these countries where saturated fat intake is higher?”
-Jimmy Moore
Think about the low-fat diet and how so many people have just always believed it was the “healthy“ way to eat. It’s incredible how that belief is so strong in most people that they don’t even know why they believe it. When you ask them to explain why they think low-fat diets are good for you, they usually give you a funny look back as if you’re a space alien with two heads—because cutting fat being healthy is so OBVIOUS!
But it’s an important question to ask people why they believe cutting fat is the answer to health. Because when you look at things like dietary guidelines, low-fat diets have been nutritional public policy for the past four decades and counting. And the way the discussion over the 2020 U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans is going, we’re headed for more of the same with saturated fat recommendations being pushed down to less than 10% of total caloric intake.
Inexplicably, the science supporting this kind of recommendation is as old as the dietary guidelines themselves. Isn’t that crazy? Ever since the government has been promoting low-fat diets to the public, not one credible study looking at lowering saturated fat intake and its positive impact on your health has been conducted. People were wearing bell bottomed jeans and owned a pet rock the last time this was studied!
Meanwhile, there has been plenty of research looking at the positive role consuming saturated fat in your diet has played on a variety of health outcomes, including lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. And yet all of this research is completely ignored in favor of sticking with the conventional wisdom of what we’ve always believed. If we’re going to pretend to be about science, then we need to bring science back to this discussion again!
Listen in today as we take a look at a new paper published in The Journal of the American College of Cardiology giving the history and the lack of evidence supporting saturated fat limits in food recommendations. It’s good news for people who want sanity brought back to public health again!
Ede Fox from The Black Keto and Carnivore Community and host of The Black Carnivore Podcast is our special interview guest on Episode 1655 of The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.
“A Black, paying member of this community has a problem and quits and that doesn’t matter to you.”

By her family’s history, she should have high blood pressure, heart disease & be a 300lb diabetic by now, but five years ago she took control of her health and turned that around. Cutting carbs was hard but once she got through it & became fat adapted, she was amazed at how great she felt.
Suddenly she had tons of energy, lost 80lbs & most importantly felt like she had a healthy way of eating that was sustainable for a lifetime! We’re told getting older means weight gain, aches, pains, and muscle loss, but now she knows that is absolutely not our destiny.
Listen in today as Jimmy chats with Ede talk about her success with the Carnivore diet, and why supporting and amplifying Black carnivore voices is so important, and the unique challenges that are being felt by black members of the carnivore community.

Why is fake fat making the headlines again? In this special JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1654, Jimmy talks about this troubling, but not surprising, new trend.
“Babies have been breastfed forever, what makes us think in 2020 we have found the answer to a problem nobody knew existed before now?”
- Jimmy Moore
For those of us of a certain age, we remember back in the low-fat era a very interesting new product that was introduced primarily through potato chips. It was called Olestra and it promised to give us all the flavor of fat in a potato chip without all the calories and fat grams that were causing us to be fat and sick. It was promised to be a healthier option and so many Americans tried it.
It didn’t take long for the stories to leak out (all pun intended) of explosive diarrhea and anal leakage after consuming this man-made fat. Not surprisingly, Olestra was taken off the market and we thought this would discourage any future fake fats from coming on the scene. If only we were that lucky.
We are all now realizing and experiencing the negative implications of destroying real food in our food supply. It’s why people are buying meat from local farmers and farmers markets. It’s why people have backyard chickens. And it’s why people seek out purchasing raw dairy legally (and it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to do that).
In a couple of episodes of JIMMY RANTS, Jimmy shares about a couple of new startup biotech companies called BIOMILQ and new fake-fat company Epogee, companies backed by billionaires like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Branson, and Jeff Bezos who want to commercially manufacture fake breastmilk in a lab from human mammary glands to replace formula which they claim is harming the environment and global warming. They want to use the same technology to create “milk“ products that are a lot “healthier” than what is available today. The world is going mad and this is more evidence of it.
“I wanted to be fit, but that didn’t mean smaller and doing literally everything possible to shrink myself. It’s about being healthy at every size.”
– Shelby Gordon
Shelby Gordon from @fit.flexible.fluid stops by The LLVLC Show today to talk with Jimmy about how health and wellness advice is perceived by the non-white community, and why the advice we sometimes give could be perceived as racist.
Listen in today as Jimmy and Shelby have a real talk about body positivity and what that means for people of all backgrounds. Shelby shares her heart with Jimmy in this episode, including how diet culture and weight science has historically been racist and how racism continues to influence the diet culture industrial complex, weight stigma, as well as compromised health care for Black patients. Shelby highlights the false claims about fat people having a higher propensity to fall victim to the Covid-19 due to weight and the recent electro shock about the racial injustice Black people still experience has focused a how – for my work – nutrition, dietitian and eating disorder recovery practitioners are getting the clue about how their work may have be – actually – doing harm to their Black clients.
Jimmy talks about how Dr. Gary Fettke and Pete Evans fight for the nutritional truth in Australia.
“For four years this doctor had the answer for his patients’ illnesses but was prevented from sharing the truth with them.”
– Jimmy Moore
When medical doctors take the Hippocratic oath to “first do no harm,” then you would assume that means they will do anything within their arsenal of knowledge and experience to make their patients better. Unfortunately, though, this doesn’t seem to apply to those doctors who have become educated on the role of nutrition in the health of their patients. And we’re seeing it all over the world right now we are doctors using a dietary approach like keto are being brought before their medical review board to explain what they are doing.
Isn’t this infuriating? I just don’t understand how a doctor promoting a natural health remedy like rating real food is somehow harming their patients in any way whatsoever. Now you and I both know the close ties that mainstream medical doctors have with the pharmaceutical companies that can line their pockets with kickbacks for prescribing drugs. But when are the ethical doctors going to stand up and say enough is enough?
Listen in as Jimmy talks about the tragic story of one such medical doctor who was scrutinized for more than four years simply because three anonymous dietitians didn’t like that he was promoting a low-carb, healthy fat diet for his patients with obesity and diabetes. Dr. Gary Fettke is an orthopedic physician in Tasmania, Australia who is helping his patients keep their limbs with LCHF when mainstream medicine gave up on them. But he was forced to stop talking about nutrition while he was being investigated for a very long time—despite the fact that not one single patient had complained.

In this special JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1650, Jimmy talks about Diabetes Canada’s response to low-carb diets after a thorough examination of the evidence.
“We know that people that have insulin resistance metabolic syndrome are the targets for a low-carb diet, and they’re seeing that in clinical practice.”
– Jimmy Moore
It’s always nice to see a government agency come to support what we all recognize as a better way of eating. Diabetes Canada, according to their website, is the nation’s most trusted provider of diabetes education, research, resources, and services. We’ve helped millions of Canadians affected by diabetes understand it, manage it, and combat complications since 1953.
In April of 2019, The American Diabetes Association published a consensus report not only endorsing low carb as an option but also acknowledging that reducing carbohydrates is the most effective way to lower blood sugar, regardless of overall diet.
A short time earlier, Diabetes UK and Diabetes Australia also published reports that were favorable to low carb for people with diabetes.
Now, Diabetes Canada has released a paper supporting low-carb diets as an effective option for type 1 and type 2 diabetes management. Listen in today to hear Jimmy talk all about the history of this organization, and why it is so important to tout this organization’s results.
