  • Longhorn Republic: February 1, 2022 - Texas Picks up Two Big Wins
The Texas Longhorns picked up not one, but two quality wins on the men's side of things thanks to a blowout win over the TCU Horned Frogs and a narrow win over the Tennessee Volunteers and returning head coach Rick Barnes.
The Longhorns played one of their most dominant games of the season after a slow start against TCU, finishing the day with a season-high 22 fast break points en route to a 23-point win. They also managed to out-rebound one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country by a 15-9 margin.
Against the Volunteers, Texas managed to overcome yet another offensive drought -- going more than five minutes without scoring a point. Thanks to a late-game free throw, the Longhorns avoided overtime and finished as one of just three Big 12 schools to beat their SEC opponent.

  • Longhorn Republic: January 25, 2022 - Basketball and Transfer News
The Texas Longhorns continue to search for consistency on the hardwood, after giving up a five-point lead to Kansas State but managing to run away from the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Budding star Marcus Smart may have found his way, but can the rest of the team do enough to support him and lift Texas out of the middle of the conference.
The ladies put in two big wins over Iowa State and TCU, setting themselves up well for a run at the top of the conference. They still have some of the toughest matchups still on the schedule but are hitting their stride at the right time.
We also take a moment to dive in on the latest transfer addition to the football team and check in on all of the spring sports as we Down the Forty.

  • Longhorn Republic: January 18, 2022 - Another up-and-down week
The Texas Longhorns can't seem to find their rhythm on the court, at least as it comes to stringing conference wins together.
After taking care of business and looking good while doing it, Texas struggled mightily against the Iowa State Cyclones and are still without a Q1 win for the season. The ladies struggled with turnovers and the Kansas Jayhawks' high-powered offense took advantage of it in an overtime win. So Vic Schaefer switched up the lineup and got a big upswing in performance from both his starters and the bench.
On the football field, the spring enrollees are on campus and in the dorms, preparing for offseason conditioning ahead of spring practice. From the new transfer players to the early high school graduates, hope are high that some of these players can have an instant impact. But who will those impact players be?

  • Longhorn Republic: January 11, 2022 - Texas Hoops Inconsistency Continues
Texas Longhorns had an up-and-down week on the hardwood, both the men and the women - splitting the week 1-1.
On the men's side, Texas started the week with a big win over the Kansas State Wildcats, but went to Stillwater and fell flat, falling 64-51 in an abysmal shooting performance. Just two players hit double-figures for the Longhorns, Timmy Allen and Andrew Jones, turning in an 8-27 performance from the floor.
The ladies did not fare much better in their conference matchup, falling 74-61 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, thanks in large part to a 23-point performance from Vivian Gray. Tech went to the line early and often, capitalizing on nearly every opportunity from the charity stripe. Their early-season matchup with the Baylor Bears had to be rescheduled, so they took on UT-Rio Grande Valley and made the most of the matchup.

  • January 4, 2022 - Basketball Starts Conference Play
Texas Longhorns basketball officially started conference play over the weekend, with the men taking on the West Virginia Mountaineers and the women taking on the Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
The men jumped all over the Mountaineers, building a double-digit lead quickly which they never surrendered. Marcus Carr and Courtney Ramey did the bulk of the damage for Texas, with Andrew Jones chipping in for the offensive effort. At least for one game, Texas found a way to be efficient on offense, capitalizing on the extra possessions and pace Chris Beard prefers.
On the women's side, Texas extended its winning streak to seven with a 11-point win over Oklahoma State thanks to patented Vic Schaefer defense, holding OSU to just 30.8 percent shooting on the night.
We also dive in on new wide receivers coach Brennan Marion, as well as commitments for both the football and basketball teams.

  • Longhorn Republic: December 21, 2021 - Changes on the Texas Staff
The Texas Longhorns wasted no time in filling the hole left by Stan Drayton's move to the Temple Owls, filling his post as running backs coach with Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets star and coach Tashard Choice. Choice, known as an up-and-comer in the coaching industry, can hopefully fill the shoes left by Drayton both as a developer and recruiter. However, Texas has another hole to fill in its coaching staff as Steve Sarkisian is reportedly parting ways with wide receivers coach Andre Coleman, who's been on the Texas staff since 2019 when he joined as an analyst.
Texas also lost depth in the quarterback room, as quarterback Casey Thompson decided to take his talents elsewhere following the addition of Quinn Ewers to the roster. We discuss his legacy as a Texas quarterback and what his impact was as Texas tries to transition to a new era of Longhorn football.

  • Longhorn Republic: December 16, 2021 - National Signing Day Recap
After a wild recruiting weekend, the Texas Longhorns still had some surprises up their sleeves heading into National Signing Day. The Texas staff managed to flip three priority targets from the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oklahoma Sooners, en routed to landing the No. 5 class in the country and the top class in the conference. Outside of the flips, Texas also managed to land yet another top-tier offensive lineman as the day drew to a close. We take a look at who is still left on the board and who we think will make an immediate impact for the Longhorns heading into 2022.
We also dive in on the basketball team's big win over Arkansas Pine Bluff and celebrate Texas players who earned recognition for successful years in volleyball and soccer.

  • Longhorn Republic: December 14, 2021 - Big Recruiting Weekend for Texas
The Texas Longhorns had four days of massive recruiting news that could potentially impact both the short and long-term potential of the program. The Longhorns received commitments from three key offensive linemen, including the No. 15 player in the country, Kelvin Banks, the No. 23 player in the state, Neto Umeozulu, and priority tackle Cameron Williams, adding a ton of size and potential to the offensive line.
Texas also received word that after flirting with both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the TCU Horned Frogs, elite quarterback transfer Quinn Ewers planned on transferring to the Longhorns and joining in the spring. The former No. 1 player in the class of 2022 reclassified and spent a year at Ohio State, seemingly to capitalize on NIL deals that he was unable to in his home state. So what does the quarterback bring to the table and how does his game adapt to Steve Sarkisian's offense.

  • Longhorn Republic: December 9, 2021 - Gearing up for Seton Hall
The Texas Longhorns are heading to New Jersey to take on the Seton Hall Pirates as a part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle, hoping to bring the Big 12 to a 4-4 tie in the annual battle of the conferences. The Pirates are riding a four-game win streak heading into the matchup, but lost their last game against a ranked team - falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes 79-76 two weeks ago. How do the Longhorns match up against the streaking Pirates and what can Texas do to come out of Newark with a win?
We also dive in on all of the postseason awards handed out to Longhorn athletes and check in on the Longhorns in the NFL before closing out the show with our entertainment recommendations of the week.
