The Texas Longhorns snapped a nearly 10-year home losing streak to the Oklahoma State Cowboys with a 36-30 win to start conference play 1-0 heading into the bye week. Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger continued his hot year while running back Keaontay Ingram set career highs in both carries and rushing yardage.

Defensively, Texas took some hits on the field but managed to hold the nation's leading receiver and rusher well below their previous average. What does it mean to the defense that they managed such a feat against a high-powered offense like Oklahoma State?

The conference opener is finally here and the Texas Longhorns may have their hands full as they welcome the Oklahoma State Cowboys to Austin, Tx Saturday.

Oklahoma State boasts the nation’s top receiver in Tylan Wallace, as well as the nation’s top rusher in Chuba Hubbard, but the Cowboys have yet to face a team with the Longhorns level of talent. The Texas Longhorns handled their business against the Rice Owls, pulling their starters with a 38-0 lead, finishing with a 48-13 lead to close out non-conference play.

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger was the star of the show, passing Vince Young in two offensive categories, while hitting season-opening marks only seen by Colt McCoy. Running backs Keaontay Ingram and Roschon Johnson seemed to find their stride as well, while several different Longhorns contributed on offense.

Defensively, Texas seemed to figure a few things out, especially up front, with redshirt freshman Keondre Coburn notching his first sack, while junior college transfer Juwan Mitchell led the team in tackles. There were still a few miscues in the secondary, but Texas looked better in pass defense.

It's game week and the Texas Longhorns are gearing up for their season-opening matchup against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Saturday. The expectations are high for Texas, with their highest preseason ranking in nearly 10 years, but many questions still abound.

Texas will have just two scholarship running backs Saturday, Keaontay Ingram and Jordan Whittington, as Daniel Young and Kirk Johnson are both sidelined with extended injuries. They also must replace the majority of the defense, including all three defensive linemen.

Heading into an important season-opening game, what do we need to see from the Longhorns and Tom Herman to ease some early-season anxiety?
