The Longhorn Republic

The Texas Longhorns lost a legend Sunday as Cedric Benson passed away following a traffic accident in Austin. In remembrance of one of the greatest players to suit up for the Longhorns, we take a look back at his storied careers and share some #RepliesOfTexas

We also take a long look at the 2019 Texas Longhorns and share our expectations for the season. Will Sam Ehlinger be able to connect enough with receivers like Collin Johnson to repeat last year, and what will a much younger defense look like?

We're wrapping up our Texas Longhorns season preview with Albie Shore of Viva The Matadors to give us some insight into a new-look Texas Tech Red Raiders team. They look to replace Kliff Kingsbury with Matt Wells, who is an offensive coach but runs things differently than his predecessor. What should we expect from the new look Red Raiders in 2019?

Next, we talk about yet another big weekend of recruiting, as three defensive prospects joined the potential 2020 class. What are we excited about and what do we want to see as Texas heads toward the end of recruiting season.

It's finally August, meaning the Texas Longhorns are back on the practice field. Sam Ehlinger looks to lead the Texas offense as it adds new wrinkles and attempts to fully make its way back. What are we hoping for as the Longhorns try to reload and get better in 2019?

Next we welcome in Kendall Kaut, site manager for Our Daily Bears, to break down what the Baylor Bears look like for 2019. What are expectations for Charlie Brewer and the high-powered offense and can the offensive line match the need that they have?

Finally, we welcome in Cody Daniel to discuss a big win for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail, as Tom Herman and company secured the commitment of the No. 3 running back in the country, Bijan Robinson. How does his commitment, and the late July surge, impact the story around the Longhorns' recruiting?

We're working toward the end of the schedule and we're previewing yet another team that could have a lot to say about how the Big 12 shakes out, the Iowa State Cyclones. They return one of the top quarterbacks in the league, sophomore Brock Purdy, but have to replace two of the top playmakers from 2018, David Montgomery and Hakeem Butler. Who can step up and handle the production for the Cyclones?

We enter in the final third of our season previews, as we welcome JT VanGilder of Bring on the Cats to give us some insight into the Kansas State Wildcats. What should we expect from the Wildcats as they replace legendary head coach Bill Snyder with Chris Klieman?

It was also a massive recruiting week for the Longhorns, picking up four big commitments, two for 2020 and two for 2021. To give some insight and evaluation, we welcome in Wescott Eberts for some analysis of the big additions and what their pledges mean for Texas moving forward.

As the season creeps closer and closer, we move onto our next preview and get insights on the TCU Horned Frogs from one of our favorite guests, Melissa Triebwasser of Frogs of War. We dive in deep on the TCU quarterback situation, what the offense will look like with an experienced and talented line, and just how do you replace nearly an entire defensive line?

We also take discuss who we feel was snubbed from the Big 12 preseason honors (spoiler: Collin Johnson is brought up early and often) and Bang the Drum on the Texas Longhorns' many rivals.

We are just a few short weeks away from the football season, with the new fall roster released and the Texas Longhorns gearing up for Big 12 Media Days. Texas is sending a large contingent to Dallas to represent the school, including Sam Ehlinger, Collin Johnson and Brandon Jones.

While they preview the season, we continue through our season previews with Andy Mitts of Rock Chalk Talk, who joins us to give some insight into the 2019 Kansas football team. Running back Pooka Williams returns to a deep backfield following a one-game suspension, while the Jayhawks defense looks to replace one of the best players in school history. What will first-year head coach Les Miles do to take the Jayhawks to national prominence?

We also bring you the latest in recruiting, as we welcome in Joe Hamilton, contributor at Burnt Orange Nation, to give some insight into the 2020 and 2021 recruiting efforts from Tom Herman and his staff.

It's the Red River Showdown week, at least for the podcast, so we brought on Allen Kenney (@BlatantHomerism) from Crimson and Cream Machine to give some insight into the 2019 Oklahoma Sooners.

After splitting the 2018 season with the Texas Longhorns, the Sooners need to replace yet another Heisman Trophy quarterback and will turn to Jalen Hurts to fill the role. The Alabama Crimson Tide transfer has a different skill set than his predecessors, so what will the offense look like as the Sooners potentially retool?

The other big question is the Oklahoma defense, looking to improve on a season that left them looking up at most of the country statistically. New defensive coordinator Alex Grinch will be dialing up the defense but returns nine from a group that ranked No, 130 in the nation in pass defense. Will Grinch be able to turn it around quickly or will the Sooners experience some growing pains on the defense?

The 2019 schedule previews continue and to take a look at the West Virginia Mountaineers we welcome in Matt Kirchner from The Smoking Musket to give us an insiders look at what to expect. The Mountaineers face a ton of turnover, including the need to replace both head coach Dana Holgorsen and quarterback Will Grier.

So what does the new regime bring to the table for the Mountaineers and who will be there in order to run the new systems in 2019?

We're moving into conference play and we start our conference previews with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. We welcome in Phillip Slavin of Cowboys Ride For Free to give us some insight into the 2019 Cowboys. We discuss the trouble with replacing Justice Hill with Chubba Hubbard, who will be under center in 2019 and who will add depth behind Tylan Wallace.

Kyle and Gerald also look at the Texas Longhorns' linebackers as they continue to move through position previews. Jeffrey McCulloch, Ayodele Adeoye and Joseph Ossai look to lead the charge, but who will back them up?
