  • Securing Law Firms: Valor Cybersecurity Shares Tips And Advice On Cyber Protection
Kevin Daisey welcomed Greg Tomchick and Jeff White from Valor Cybersecurity to The Managing Partners Podcast to discuss the importance of cybersecurity to law firms and to provide helpful tips. Greg started his career in software development and when his team experienced a cyber attack, he decided to learn more about cybersecurity and joined a defense contractor. Greg and Jeff then came together and started Valor Cybersecurity. During the podcast, they discussed the importance of cybersecurity to law firms and the steps that lawyers can take to ensure their security. They concluded with the importance of taking the necessary steps to protect their data and the baseball flare in the background.
Greg and Jeff are both ODU graduates who have experience in the defense and cybersecurity spaces. Greg played professional baseball and has knowledge of how to lead in high stakes environments. Jeff has worked in defense and the PCI side of credit card security compliance. He then went on to help manage service providers and Fortune 50 companies with their evolving cyber threat landscape. They are currently working together at a company called Cyber Defense Labs. Jeff and Greg appreciate the opportunity to share their experience and knowledge with others. They typically interview managing partners to learn about their law firms and what they're doing to be successful in terms of operations, marketing, and any other unique strategies they may have.
Valor Cybersecurity is a company that works with law firms to provide cybersecurity expertise and knowledge. The founders, Jeff and Greg, both have experience in the cybersecurity space and noticed that there was a paywall in place for companies to access the knowledge they had. To solve this problem, they created Valor Cybersecurity as a way for companies to receive the expertise and knowledge they needed at an affordable price. The company is also well-branded and provides a website for customers to explore the services they offer. Valor Cybersecurity works with law firms to help them protect their business from cyber threats and provide them with the resources they need to stay safe.
Valor Cybersecurity is a small cybersecurity firm that works with law firms to help protect their information and data. The team at Valor believes that cybersecurity is not just a technology issue, but a people, process, and technology issue. They focus on understanding the threats to the business from all three areas and providing solutions to help protect the law firm. They understand that law firms are targets and that they need to be protected, so they try to lower the paywall to make sure that everyone can get the advice they need. They provide services such as Ada compliance to protect law firms from lawsuits. They suggest that law firms should be mindful of their people, processes, and technology in order to stay secure.

  • Jon Groth: Personal Injury Attorney & Vaccine Law Expert
Kevin Daisey, the host of the Managing Partners podcast and the founder of Array Digital, welcomed his guest Jon Groth to the show. Jon is a personal injury attorney in Wisconsin, with offices in Milwaukee and other parts of the state. He also has a unique practice with full time staff and attorneys that work with vaccine law, which has been around since the 1980s and is not limited to Wisconsin but is also international. Clients have come from as far away as Siberia. Jon's law firm website is GrothLawFirm.com. This conversation was a great opportunity to learn more about Jon's practice, the unique vaccine law he works with, and the stateside and international clients he serves.
Jon discussed the impact of COVID on vaccine law. He stated that media outlets contacted him about people who might be injured due to the COVID vaccine and that currently the vaccine is covered by immunity, meaning it is difficult to get compensation. He believes that in the future the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program will include the COVID vaccine and will make it easier to get compensation. Additionally, there have been more flu vaccines administered, leading to an increased likelihood of injury. As a result, Jon expects to see an increase in cases over the years.
The speaker is a personal injury attorney based in Milwaukee. He has recently been receiving a lot of calls and interviews due to the influx of vaccine-related questions. He mainly deals with single-event car crashes, such as a passenger being hit by an Uber driver or a person being hit by a UPS truck. In addition, he has been receiving a lot of cases involving passengers in Ubers and Lyfts, and Milwaukee has a high number of car thefts.
The conversation is about a law firm and the growing gang problem in the area. The people stealing Kias and Hondas are mostly kids and one is stolen a week. Jon's dad was a race car driver who said that it was harder to steal a car in the 1950s than it is to steal a Kia in 2023. The law firm is always hiring and currently has five lawyers, with a goal of having around seven in the next few months to a year. They have around thirty staff in total.

  • Lawyer & Influencer Clay Payne Shares How To Sign Cases Using Instagram & Social Media
Kevin Daisey is the Founder of Array Digital and host of The Managing Partners Podcast. He is joined by Clay Payne, an attorney and influencer on Instagram. Clay is based in San Antonio, Texas, and has been practicing law for around five years. He has progressed from a law clerk to a partner in a boutique litigation firm, which had not done any paid marketing before his social media efforts. Clay believes that his social media efforts have completely changed the trajectory of his career and brought in cases.
Clay started using Instagram in April of 2022 and has seen a lot of success, gaining over 200,000 followers on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube shorts. He posts on each platform and repurposes the content for the other platforms. He is getting 5-10 leads a day, not all in his area of practice, but signing 18 wheeler cases and motor vehicle accident cases both in his state and all over the United States. This success is showing attorneys that Instagram can be a great source of leads and referrals, and that it is a space that they should consider exploring.
Clay shares his experience of building an audience on Instagram without any paid advertising. He achieved success by putting out entertaining posts that people could enjoy. He emphasizes that these organic followers are the strongest and are likely to convert into potential clients. Clay suggests recording good content and putting it out there in bite-sized pieces that people can take in. He recommends hiring a VA or assistant to help with brief editing, and getting in front of a camera to share what you already know. By doing this, it helps build a brand and grow an organic audience.
The speaker is discussing their experience with creating content for their law practice. They generally set aside a Sunday to record their content and will spend the week thinking of ideas. During the week, they will jot down any topics that come to mind, such as what to do after a car accident or what happens when you're served with divorce papers. The speaker believes it's important to grow organically and not just buy followers. This can be done by creating content that is engaging and that people want to watch. This will help ensure that your content is actually working and gaining traction.

  • Managing Partners Podcast: Hyper-Focused Attorney Discusses Niche Strategies To Achieve Spectacular Growth
Kevin Daisey welcomed Kaitlin, a guest from Colorado, to the Managing Partners podcast. Kaitlin was referred by recent guest Jimmy Grant, who is based out of Georgia and is a member of the group, How to Manage a Small Law Firm. Kaitlin originally moved to Manhattan for law school and worked for six years in civil rights, white collar and criminal defense cases, including the Central Park Five case. Eventually, Kaitlin was burnt out and decided to move to Colorado to start fresh. Kaitlin noticed that she was missing something in her cases, which was injury and traumatic brain injury, which she was not addressing properly. This lead her to start her own practice to better serve her clients.
Kaitlin discuss the case of traumatic brain injuries and how lawyers, the community, and sports teams often don't understand the complex factors surrounding it. She then go on to explain how she and her partner decided to start their own law firm, treating it like a tech startup rather than a traditional law firm, and how it has been incredibly successful in its first year. Kaitlin discuss the importance of not treating a law firm like a traditional one and investing in the financial, professional and personal growth of the staff. They also talk about how they have achieved tremendous results in their first year and have earned the Ink 5000 award based on their financials and growth. Finally, they emphasize the importance of scaling one's business and helping more people if one is great at what they do.
This conversation highlights the process of starting a law firm and how it differs from other business startups. The two stress that the primary things needed to start a law firm are a cell phone, laptop, malpractice insurance, and registration with the state. It is argued that lawyers have a mentality that setting up a brick-and-mortar building is necessary and that this is not the case. It is also argued that one does not need to compete with big law firms that have a lot of money for advertising and that referrals are the best way to find clients. Lastly, it is mentioned that when a person needs legal services for a traumatic or catastrophic injury, they are likely going to prioritize finding a lawyer who will best serve their needs rather than the one who is first on the Google search engine.
This conversation discusses the innovative no-cost marketing strategies that have enabled Heather's law firm to become successful. Kaitlin explains that they have focused on hyper-specialization and referrals, making use of ground games, writing letters to potential clients, being a mensch and helping people, being present in local communities and magazines, and doing CLE lectures and other events. She also suggests that other attorneys looking to get into hyper-specialization should write a book to become a benchmark in the field.

  • Danny Ozment of Emerald City Productions
Danny's background in music has led him to a career in podcasting, where he has become an expert. In this conversation, Danny shares his story of how he got into podcasting and what advice he has for law firms and attorneys looking to get into podcasting. Danny grew up with a dream of being a musician and got a degree in music education and a master’s degree in conducting. He then worked in the nonprofit arts world in Washington D.C. until his first child was born with a brain injury which necessitated one of them needing to have more flexible work to be able to attend appointments. Danny decided to start a business from home and realized he had experience in recording, thus leading him to podcasting. He now shares his knowledge with those looking to enter podcasting to help them use it to their advantage.
Danny had a recording studio business where they recorded acapella groups and traveled to record them. They eventually moved the business to Nashville. However, they started to become frustrated with the lack of consistent revenue and wanted to diversify. After listening to podcasts, they noticed that many of them did not have great sound quality, so they reached out to a few and offered to help them out for free. This eventually led to them charging small fees to help podcasters with editing, show notes, website help, and social media.
Danny runs Emerald City Productions, a podcast production company that helps close to 40 podcasters each week launch, build, and grow their podcast. He started the business six or seven years ago and now has a team of over 12 people, including editors, copywriters, developers, and designers. Danny works with many professional service providers, such as law firms, accounting firms, healthcare practices, and therapists, who are using podcasting as part of their content marketing strategy to grow their businesses. For Danny, podcasting is more than just a soundboard for his business, but also a way to get his message out to his team and other entrepreneurs in the space.
The Managing Partners Podcast is a great way for attorneys to learn more about their industry and the ways their business is growing. The hosts, Kevin and Danny, talk to attorneys to gain insight into how their business is running, what's working, and what's not. They also get to learn firsthand by asking questions on the show. Kevin loves it when he has a guest on who has their own podcast and has achieved success with it, as it provides an opportunity to share these success stories with other attorneys. They discuss the steps an attorney should take to get started with their own podcast. Ideas for content, promotion, and engagement are some of the topics covered. Ultimately, a successful law firm podcast can be a great source of valuable content for attorneys, as well as a way to connect with their audience.

  • Practical Business Solutions For Personal Injury Attorneys: James Grant Offers A Comprehensive Outsourced Litigation Service
Kevin Daisey, founder of Array Digital, welcomes James Grant to the Managing Partners Podcast. James is the founder of Georgia Trial Attorneys at Kirchen & Grant, LLC and his website is 8334thewin.com. They chat about why James became an attorney and his firm. James helps personal injury lawyers make more money faster and with less stress by serving as their outsourced litigation department. Kevin encourages listeners to check out James' website and reach out to him if they have any questions.
The speaker is a lawyer who got his start in civil engineering, studying at Georgia Tech. His partner also studied civil engineering at Virginia Tech, and the two of them now run a marketing company with 25 employees. The speaker recounts how he was working in civil engineering when he decided to start his marketing company in 2006. They joke about starting a podcast called The Three Musketeers and inviting other civil engineers who no longer work in the field.
James and his business partner Mark started their firm in Atlanta to help trial attorneys. With the assistance of a business coach, they realized that they had to be experts in something, and chose the personal injury field since they were both very good at it and it was a great fit for their personalities and what they wanted to do with their lives. To differentiate themselves from the other personal injury attorneys, they realized that many of them were very good at hustle marketing and had a good pipeline for getting cases. Thus, they decided to focus on creating a unique value proposition to set them apart, aiming to provide better customer service and results for their clients.
The conversation centers around the idea of helping other personal injury lawyers with their firms, and how pre-litigation and litigation have very different skill sets that can't be applied to the same team. They came up with the idea of becoming a one-stop shop for outsourced litigation, in order to help other attorneys have more money, time and freedom to put back into their marketing machines. They also discussed the issue of credibility, and how they don't want to be competing against their clients for pre-litigation cases, so they have chosen to not spend any money on digital ads. The goal is to help other attorneys and their clients do better, both financially and professionally.
