In November of 2019, we welcome back Shawn Wells to talk about his new role as Chief Science Officer with NNB Nutrition. Specifically, he's joining us to discuss a novel new ingredient BAIBA (sold as MitoBurn by NNB) which has been studied for a few years but mostly unavailable from ingredient manufacturers.
Tune in to learn about Shawn, BAIBA (also known as β-aminoisobutyric acid or 3-Aminoisobutyric acid), and the wonderful world of new novel ingredients!

Long story short is that this molecule is generated when you exercise (it's generated from broken-down valine or thymine), and is more of a SIGNAL than an amino acid, activating various "exercise-induced" mechanisms in the body.
When supplementing extra BAIBA in mice, a ton of interesting health effects occur:
- Changes the characteristics of energy storing white adipose tissue into energy burning brown-like adipose tissue
- Increases liver (hepatic) beta oxidation (fat burning)
- Protect against fat gain in mice with partial leptin deficiency
- Increase plasma beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), which is the primary ketone body generated when beta-oxidizing fat
- Improve glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity
- Prevent disuse-based bone and muscle loss
