We sat down with Beryl Gastaldello, the french sprinting sensation who made waves in the ISL last season with the LA Current. Beryl took us through her quarantine period and how she's been honing her training in and out of the pool to fit her physical needs. Beryl says she spends 3-4 daily at the gym while spending only 60-90 minutes in the pool. It's not all lifting, but it is all putting her body in situations that ultimately make her a better athlete.

We sat down with 2012 Olympian and NCAA Champion Clark Burckle. If there's anything you need to know about Clark, it's this. Clark shows up on any pool deck TODAY and he will be buff. And he will swim faster than you. Clark can always swim fast. He even admitted to popping a 53.1 100 breast at an Arizona alumni meet after a day on the golf course. He also opens up about his transfer from Florida to Arizona and how he matured through the entire process.

We sat down with Paige McKenna, the #5 recruit on SwimSwam's Top 20 NCAA Recruits for the class of 2021. McKenna, a Wisconsin commit, opens up about her history in the pool and how she ended up training with Bruce Gemmell at Nation's Capitol. McKenna's family lives in Pennsylvania, and her parents have gotten an apartment in Maryland so that Paige is able to train at NCAP, which McKenna admits can be hard being away from half of her family.

She also goes into training distance with Katie Ledecky and why she eats cookie dough before big distance workouts.

We sat down with 5-time Olympic medalist Josh Davis, who is a swimming veteran and familiar face on any pool deck across the country. Davis talks us through his illustrious career on Team USA, including how even though he won his 3 gold medals at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, he really cherishes his 2 silvers from 2000 in Sydney, where at 28 years of age, he peaked physically in the pool and had the best swims of his career.

We sat down with Catherine Kase, the 2021 Olympic Head Coach for Open Water and winner of the 2020 Women in Aquatic Sports Award Winner. Kase is the first woman to serve twice (2016 & 2020-21) as an Olympic Head Coach. In addition, she's head coached at 4 FINA World Championships, 2 Pan Pacs and a Pan Am Games. She serves on FINA Coaches Committee and chairs USA Swimming’s Open Water Steering Sub-Committee. Kase is a lifelong swimmer (4 years at North Carolina as Catherine Frock) and recently finished her 12-year tenure at USC as the Associate Head Coach.

We sat down with University of Florida head women's coach Jeff Poppell. Jeff's been in the coaching game for a long time, starting at Bolles School under Gregg Troy (club), then as the head coach for the University of Arkansas (college), then at Gulliver Prep in Miami (club), and finally at the University of Florida. At the last 3 of these stops, Poppell was integral in building a program from the ground up and he shares what lessons he learned along the way.

We sat down with Topher Pfuel, Tara Tiernan, and Mary Motch of William & Mary swimming. They were candid on their thoughts of the recent news of the W&M athletic director plagiarizing Stanford's release of cutting teams as well as W&M alleging that the cut of these female teams would be a Title IX violation. Each athlete ended with sharing their fondest memories of being a part of the Tribe swimming experience.

We sat down with SwimSwam writer Zoe Gregorace (see "The Hungry Swimmer" series), also known on Instagram as "the Oatmeal Queen". Zoe takes us through her swim story, particularly what her nutrition looked like as a swimmer (and what nutrition looks like for many swimmers in high school and college). Zoe describes how she learned about nutrition while getting her masters and how she made slight tweaks to maximize her energy output AND taste in every meal.
