  • Lori Vallow Daybell Is in For One HELL Of A Road Trip
Could the impending transfer and potential retrial of Lori Vallow Daybell signal a significant shift in one of the most captivating legal sagas in recent history? This question looms large as we delve into a complex narrative brought to the fore in the latest episode of "Hidden Killers" with Tony Brueski. The episode features an in-depth discussion with Lori Hellis, a former defense attorney and author, providing keen insights on the mental health aspects, legal intricacies, and the stark differences between the legal proceedings in Idaho and Arizona.

The conversation takes a critical turn as it addresses Governor Brad Little’s recent executive decision to extradite Lori Vallow Daybell to Arizona on charges of conspiracy to commit murder. This comes in the wake of an ongoing appeal process concerning her initial trial, introducing an array of legal and psychological considerations. Hellis aptly notes, "There's a lot of things to question about another Lori Vallow trial." The discussion underscores the paramount importance of addressing mental health issues within the legal context, particularly when they are as intricate and severe as they appear in Lori's case.

Hellis reflects on the uniqueness of the case, stating, "Lori Vallow is an enigma. She was functional on a day-to-day basis yet harbored deep and dangerous delusions." This duality poses a considerable challenge for the legal system, aiming to ensure justice while addressing the defendant's mental health needs appropriately.

In drawing parallels with Lori’s previous legal proceedings, Hellis highlights the idiosyncrasies of Idaho’s legal system, which notably does not permit a 'not guilty by reason of insanity' defense. This starkly contrasts with Arizona's legal stance, opening up a myriad of possibilities for Lori’s defense team and potentially paving the way for a different outcome.

The lack of a robust defense in the original trial is a focal point of the conversation, with Hellis pointing out, "One of the reasons we didn't see a defense was because she really limited what her defense attorneys could say." This self-imposed limitation significantly hindered Lori's defense strategy, leaving many to wonder if a different approach might be adopted in Arizona, given the state’s different legal provisions regarding mental health.

The forthcoming trial of Chad Daybell, Lori’s husband, also casts a long shadow on the proceedings. Hellis anticipates a vigorous defense strategy from Chad’s legal team, potentially shifting blame onto Lori. "I think we're going to see Lori was the femme fatale and Chad was just the dupe," Hellis speculates, setting the stage for a dramatic and potentially revealing court battle.

Hellis does not mince words when discussing the arduous journey Lori faces en route to Arizona, detailing the grueling and dehumanizing process prisoners often undergo during interstate transfers. This stark depiction serves as a poignant reminder of the harsh realities of the criminal justice system, a journey Lori must endure before facing her day in court once again.

The episode concludes with a potent question, pondering the unpredictable nature of high-profile legal battles and leaving listeners to reflect on the myriad of variables that could influence the final chapter of Lori Vallow Daybell’s tumultuous story. As Hellis aptly puts it, "You never can predict except that it might be unpredictable." This sentiment encapsulates the essence of the Lori Vallow Daybell saga, a complex tapestry of legal battles, psychological turmoil, and unforeseen twists that continue to captivate and confound observers worldwide.

As Lori Vallow Daybell’s journey through the legal system continues, one question remains at the forefront: Will the Arizona trial provide clarity and closure, or will it only deepen the mystery surrounding one of the most enigmatic legal cases in recent memory? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the world will be watching.

  • What Kind of Defense Will Lori Vallow Daybell Put Up In AZ Murder Trial?
Is justice truly attainable when the accused seems to be living in a world of her own? This is the burning question as Arizona braces itself for the high-profile trial of Lori Vallow Daybell, who is now set to face murder conspiracy charges in the state. The story, having taken numerous twists and turns, has gripped the nation, and it only seems to get more convoluted as we dive deeper into the labyrinth of Lori’s mind and her alleged crimes.

Tony Brueski, host of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, recently sat down with Neama Rahmani, an attorney and former federal prosecutor, to discuss the upcoming trial and the numerous complexities surrounding it. One of the primary points of discussion was Lori’s mental state and whether she is indeed fit to stand trial. "Clearly someone who's not all there," Brueski remarks, drawing attention to Lori’s bizarre behavior during her sentencing hearing for previous charges.

Rahmani echoes this sentiment, highlighting Lori’s documented mental health issues and temporary incompetence ruling in Idaho. He poses a critical question, asking whether pursuing a trial in Arizona would amount to anything more than a significant expense to taxpayers, given that Lori is already serving a life sentence and has no strong basis for an appeal.

The conversation then shifts to the concept of justice and what it truly means in a case as perplexing as Lori Vallow Daybell’s. Lori’s apparent lack of awareness or understanding of her wrongdoings makes one wonder if she can ever truly grasp the gravity of her actions or the punishment she may face. "You're basically bringing the injured monkey into the courtroom and poking it with a stick, and it's still not going to realize it's being poked with a stick or why it's even there," Brueski vividly describes.

This, coupled with the potential mental health fluctuations that Lori might experience, begs the question of whether the trial in Arizona would serve any purpose other than providing the victims’ families with a sense of closure or justice. Rahmani and Brueski both seem to agree that while some victims do seek their day in court, the family of Charles Vallow, Lori’s deceased fourth husband, might have to ponder whether they want to re-live the trauma and be re-victimized by someone who might never fully comprehend the pain she has caused.

Rahmani also brings into focus the comparison with other high-profile cases, such as Jodi Arias, suggesting that Lori Vallow Daybell’s trial could become the biggest case in Arizona since then. He touches upon the intricacies of the legal proceedings, pointing out that the case is likely to go to trial given Lori’s current mental state and her lack of incentive to plead or accept any deals.

The conversation between Brueski and Rahmani not only sheds light on the legal aspects of the case but also delves deep into the psychological and emotional turmoil that surrounds it. The discourse underscores the need for a nuanced understanding of justice, especially when dealing with defendants who have severe mental health issues.

As Arizona gears up for what promises to be a riveting, albeit heart-wrenching trial, one cannot help but ponder: "What does justice look like for Lori Vallow Daybell, and is it attainable in the conventional sense of the term?" The "Hidden Killers" podcast leaves us with this thought-provoking question, encouraging listeners and readers alike to reflect on the true meaning of justice and accountability in cases shrouded in mystery, mental illness, and overwhelming tragedy.

  • Is Lori Vallow Daybell Psychotic Or Playing Us All?
Can justice truly be served when the defendant appears blissfully unaware of the gravity of their crimes? This question hangs heavily in the air as Lori Vallow Daybell is set to face trial once again, this time in Arizona for the murder of her previous husband, Charles Vallow. The Idaho governor has given the green light for her transfer, but it has left many pondering the efficacy and necessity of putting her on trial once more.

Tony Brueski, host of "Hidden Killers," and Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI special agent, delve into the complex web of Lori Vallow Daybell’s case, addressing critical questions about her mental state, the potential for re-traumatizing the victims’ families, and the pursuit of justice.

"Lori Vallow Daybell is no stranger to controversy and legal battles, but this upcoming trial in Arizona brings a new set of challenges and considerations," Brueski begins, setting the stage for a conversation filled with insights and tough questions. He wonders aloud, "Is she fit to stand trial? Should we be re-traumatizing the victims and this family all over again for someone who very likely at the end of the day is still going to be blissfully unaware of her crimes?"

Coffindaffer brings her expertise to the table, emphasizing the necessity of the trial despite the complexities it entails. “There’s probable cause to believe she committed this crime. So she certainly should stand trial,” she states confidently, highlighting the importance of the legal process in ensuring justice is served. She adds, “I think for the families, it’s a measure of justice to have the person they think killed their loved one stand trial and have all that evidence out there for everyone to know what happened to their loved one.”

As the conversation unfolds, Brueski and Coffindaffer grapple with the likelihood of seeing a repeat of Lori’s previous trial, questioning whether her defense will once again concede defeat. They discuss the peculiar nature of Lori’s mental state, with Brueski drawing attention to her bizarre statements during the sentencing hearing of her last trial, where she appeared to be completely disconnected from reality.

Coffindaffer provides a nuanced perspective, suggesting that Lori’s actions and statements could be a part of a calculated act to manipulate those around her. “I really think that in this case, I think it’s always been an excuse for having sexual and marital freedom, for having freedom away from her children that she didn’t want to be bound to,” she argues, questioning the authenticity of Lori’s religious beliefs and the sincerity of her actions.

The dialogue takes a turn as Brueski and Coffindaffer discuss the potential outcomes of the trial, weighing the possibility of Lori being an exceptional actor against her being genuinely disconnected from reality. They ponder the implications of each scenario, questioning what justice looks like when the accused may not fully grasp the severity of their actions.

As the podcast episode draws to a close, Brueski leaves listeners with a chilling thought: “We’ll see if we get a wink at some point in time, though. I'm waiting for it.” It’s a statement that encapsulates the eerie uncertainty surrounding Lori Vallow Daybell, her mental state, and the pursuit of justice in her case.

The trial in Arizona presents an opportunity for closure and justice for Charles Vallow’s family, but it also raises critical questions about the nature of accountability, the impact of mental illness on legal proceedings, and the lengths to which society should go to seek justice. As Lori Vallow Daybell once again becomes the subject of national attention, the world watches, waits, and wonders: Will justice be served, or are we witnessing a performance from one of the most enigmatic figures in recent legal history?

  • Will Lori Vallow Daybell’s Mental State Prevent AZ Trial?
Is justice truly achievable when the accused appears to be detached from reality? This is the burning question as Arizona prepares for the trial of Lori Vallow Daybell, who faces murder conspiracy charges in connection to the death of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, and the attempted murder of her niece's ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux. The complexity of this case and Lori's mental state add layers of intrigue and heartbreak to an already tragic story.

Last year, Brandon Boudreaux testified in a trial related to this saga, shedding light on the harrowing events that have unfolded. However, as Lori Vallow Daybell now faces another trial, many, including Tony Brueski, the host of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, are left wondering what to expect, and more importantly, questioning Lori's mental competence to stand trial.

In the latest episode of "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski, alongside psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott, delve into the intricacies of Lori’s mental state, the implications for the trial, and the broader impact on the families involved. Lori’s perplexing behavior, including her seemingly delusional state during the sentencing hearing of her previous trial, raises red flags about her connection to reality. “This doesn't seem like someone that is really competent to be standing trial or understanding anything that's going to be happening,” Tony Brueski comments.

Shavaun Scott shares this concern, highlighting Lori's detachment from reality. “Lori has left planet earth,” she remarks, emphasizing the severity of Lori’s mental state. The discussion raises critical questions about the role of mental illness in the legal proceedings and whether justice can truly be served when the accused may not fully grasp the gravity of their actions.

The case of Lori Vallow Daybell is complex and heart-wrenching, with multiple victims and a twisted trail of beliefs and actions. Charles Vallow, Lori’s late husband, is at the center of the murder conspiracy charges, and his family seeks justice. However, as Tony and Shavaun point out, achieving justice in this case is not straightforward.

“When the person you're seeking to punish doesn’t feel a bit of that punishment, thinks that they are doing their intended godly duty and spreading their twisted message to the world... Are you getting justice?” Tony questions. This disconnection between Lori’s perception of her actions and the pursuit of justice creates a challenging scenario for the legal system and the families seeking closure.

Shavaun suggests that a guilty verdict may provide a sense of validation for the families affected, but it is unlikely to impact Lori’s understanding of her actions or her sense of responsibility. The question of Lori’s competency to stand trial is a looming concern, with both Tony and Shavaun expressing doubts about her ability to participate meaningfully in her defense.

With the death penalty off the table, the focus shifts to finding the most appropriate setting for Lori, should she be found guilty. Shavaun advocates for a forensic mental hospital, emphasizing the need for a controlled environment that acknowledges Lori’s mental illness while ensuring she does not pose a threat to society.

Beyond the immediate implications of the trial, the conversation turns to the potential lessons that can be drawn from Lori Vallow Daybell’s story. Shavaun emphasizes the importance of recognizing signs of psychosis and taking them seriously, pointing to the missed opportunities for intervention in Lori’s case.

The episode of "Hidden Killers" sheds light on the intricate and tragic story of Lori Vallow Daybell, leaving listeners with a crucial question to ponder: In cases of severe mental illness, where the accused may not fully comprehend their actions, what does justice truly look like, and how can society ensure it is served?

  • Judge Orders Return of Joshua "J.J" Vallow's Remains to Family Amid Ongoing Legal Saga
A judge has ruled in favor of returning the remains of Joshua "J.J" Vallow to his family members. Despite Chad Daybell awaiting his trial in April 2024, both Lori Vallow Daybell and Chad Daybell's legal representatives had previously agreed to consumptive DNA testing in 2022, which exhaustively uses all remaining DNA and can only be performed once.

The remains of J.J. and his sister, Tylee Ryan, have been held at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg since authorities discovered their remains buried in Chad Daybell's Fremont County property on June 9, 2020. On October 12, 2023, Chad Daybell's attorney, John Prior, filed a Stipulation to Release, which Judge Steven Boyce signed on Monday, October 16, 2023. J.J.'s body has been in state custody since the discovery, while Tylee Ryan's remains will remain in state custody, with no known release date.

Lori Vallow Daybell, the children's mother, has been convicted of murdering her two children and conspiring to murder Tammy Daybell. She is serving life sentences without the possibility of parole and faces additional charges in Arizona.

Extradition papers from Arizona to Idaho were sent in August 2023, pending Idaho Governor Brad Little's approval to transfer Lori to Arizona. Currently, she is housed in the Women's Correctional Facility in Pocatello, Idaho.

J.J. Vallow's grandparents issued a statement to KMVT:
"These past few years have been filled with pain and grief as we've journeyed down this long and difficult path. We have waited and prayed for this day for so long and are immensely relieved that JJ will finally be laid to rest.

In recent days, we have immersed ourselves in the memories of the love and happiness that JJ brought to our lives, and he continues to shine his light upon us. As we reflect on the joy that JJ filled our lives with, our hearts ache for all those who loved JJ and share in the profound grief and loss of this beautiful young boy.

We are grateful for the love and support of all those who have come to love JJ, Tylee, and Charles. As we persist in our pursuit of justice, the dedication and strength we've received have helped carry us through this ordeal.

We anxiously await news of when Tylee can also be laid to rest. Our greatest wish is for JJ and Tylee to be celebrated for the joy and love they brought into this world and for them to finally find peace in their rest. Only then will our hearts begin to heal.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date."

  • Will Chad Daybell Throw Lori Under the Bus In Court?
Could Chad Daybell's desire for courtroom cameras offer insight into his mindset or simply be a strategic move?
The trial of Chad Daybell, set to follow the much-publicized proceedings of Lori Daybell, is stirring up just as much media frenzy and public speculation. As discussions continue about allowing cameras in the courtroom for Chad's trial, a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast featured insights from retired FBI Special Agent and Chief of the Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, Robin Dreeke, on this and other related matters.

In the previous trial, Lori Daybell had cameras banned, but the current debate centers around Chad's desire for them. Tony Brueski, the podcast's host, shared that "Lori didn't want the cameras in this case. Chad actually does want the cameras in there. The prosecution does not." The natural question that arises: Why a difference in preferences between the two defendants?

Dreeke mused on the matter, referencing Chad's background: "He worked at a cemetery, he went to Brigham Young, he wrote books." He proposed that Chad might perceive himself as a "compelling figure," driven by the charisma he shared with Lori, forming their so-called mini cult. "He may think he's more compelling than he actually is," Dreeke stated.

Elaborating on this, Dreeke further speculated on Chad's potential motivations. "If he's trying to sow seeds of doubt in a jury or also the court of public opinion, which is why you'd have the media in there, he might think he can do that." Yet, he quickly added a counterpoint, observing, "Lori was the real charismatic person behind the little mini cult they had."

When probed about whether Chad still maintains his confidence or belief system, Dreeke responded, "I think he's probably still believing in it." He touched on a concept called "self-serving bias," which might explain Chad's perception of his own importance, even in light of the serious charges he faces.

However, the trial's strategy remains uncertain. Dreeke mentioned that Chad's defense might pivot around painting Lori as the main instigator, contrasting her seemingly chaotic life with Chad's more stable background. "When did his life arc change? It's when he met her," Dreeke observed.

It remains to be seen whether the courtroom will become a stage for "passive-aggressive mudslinging," as Brueski suggested, with Chad's defense possibly turning the tables on Lori. Dreeke concluded by noting the potential difference in the defense strategy for the two, emphasizing Lori's past surrounded by "life and death" while Chad's past was comparatively quieter.

As the trial's commencement looms and speculation mounts, the public, like the jury, is left to grapple with myriad unanswered questions.

Will the decision on courtroom cameras truly impact the outcome, or is it merely a window into the psyche of a man caught in a whirlwind of controversy?

  • How Will Chad Daybell's Defense Paint Him in Court?
As the trial for Chad Daybell approaches, a curious twist has emerged: Chad wants cameras in the courtroom. This request stands in stark contrast to the 2023 trial of his wife, Lori Vallow Daybell, where cameras were notably absent. With such a high-profile case already saturated with eerie allegations and morbid details, one has to wonder, why the sudden change in approach?

In a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, host Tony Brueski delved deep into this peculiarity with the help of former Federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani. Rahmani offered insights into the unexpected twist, suggesting, "Chad Daybell is no ordinary criminal defendant... He is an author. He probably wants to be a best-selling author and he's a cult leader. So yeah, what better marketing for your followers than having your case broadcast live for weeks." This theory might not be far-fetched, considering Chad's known aspirations for publicity, potentially envisioning the trial as a grandstand to promote his beliefs.

However, Brueski presents an alternative viewpoint, questioning whether Chad genuinely believes his own narrative. "Is this Chad trying to grandstand and have his moment in the spotlight to preach whatever nonsense he believes?" he speculates. This conjecture underscores the uncertainty surrounding the true motives of the Daybells, who have repeatedly shocked the public with their bizarre claims of predicting a zombie apocalypse.

The heinous nature of the crimes in question cannot be understated. The couple allegedly caused the deaths of those close to them, including their children, whose remains were tragically discovered buried in their backyard. Rahmani highlights the severe uphill battle facing Chad, opining, "I don't really know what Chad is possibly going to say or do to be able to convince even one juror to acquit."

The upcoming trial promises to be just as, if not more, contentious as Lori's. With the conviction of Lori Vallow Daybell still fresh in the minds of many, Rahmani warns of potential implicit biases. He notes, "I think it's tough not to know the co-defendant was convicted... especially when the defendant is even less sympathetic."

When asked about the evidence from Lori Vallow's trial and its admissibility in Chad Daybell's trial, Rahmani clarifies that it's not a simple transfer. "Chad Daybell's lawyers have the right to cross-examine all those same witnesses. So expect to see more of the same," he states. This means revisiting the painful testimonies and challenging circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Given the overwhelming evidence against Chad, Brueski and Rahmani's discussion eventually gravitates towards the ultimate question: will Chad Daybell face the death penalty? Rahmani draws parallels with other notorious death penalty cases, like that of Nicholas Cruz, pointing out the challenge of finding sympathy for a defendant in such extreme circumstances. "If you believe in the death penalty... this is a death penalty case," Rahmani declares.

In the end, the strategy of Chad Daybell's defense remains an enigma. Unlike Lori's defense, which seemed to surrender in the face of overwhelming evidence, Rahmani feels Chad's team might take a more combative approach. "I think if you're the lawyers here, you got to just swing for the fences," he suggests, emphasizing the dire nature of the situation.

Will Chad Daybell's Trial be a Replay or Offer New Twists?
The upcoming trial of Chad Daybell promises to be as riveting as it is tragic. Yet, with cameras rolling and a defendant seemingly eager for the spotlight, will justice or spectacle take center stage?
