On today’s Thursday Thoughts, Polly and I are talking about making excuses.

We all do it, don’t we? Whether it be making excuses for why we CAN’T do something, or making excuses for why we CAN do something we know we shouldn’t be doing.

In this conversation, Polly and I talk about where we make excuses in our own lives - how we can both be professional procrastinators, and also how we’re brilliant at reasoning why that chocolate eclair or second glass of wine is, actually, a brilliant idea. 🍷

We also talk about ways we can stop the excuses - by making it harder to do the thing we know we shouldn’t, and making it easier to do the thing we know we should.

My guest on the podcast this week is the gorgeous Emma Phipps.

Emma is the maker and creator of feel-good brand Beau Tie which began in 2012 when she started turning thrifted fabrics from charity shops, into bow ties. This soon branched out into a focus on the wedding industry with a full range of bow ties, ties and pocket squares. In 2020, Emma pivoted into the world of scrunchies and the term “Scrunchie Cult’ began. This was followed by sleep masks and headbands. She works from her home studio, where she makes and packs everything herself, alongside her house cat Snowy. Emma sources her fabrics from all over the world, whilst going on solo trips. Her brand is all about making women feel empowered and enhancing their style, as well as prioritising comfort. 

She is single and childfree.

Katy is a freelance translator, and a full-time digital nomad, with a particular passion for travelling overland. She spent several years travelling the whole way around the world without taking any flights.

My guest on the podcast this week is the fabulous Conor Creighton.

Conor Creighton is an author, coach and meditation teacher from Kildare, Ireland. His podcast Hacking Love explores the relationship in a time of crisis and huge evolutionary change. He used to be a journalist for the Guardian and Vice Magazine, covering warzones, drug culture, and the rise of the far-right. However, in 2012 he discovered meditation and realised that being a meditation teacher, spiritual guide, and coach was much more up his street.
