If you grew up with a scarcity mentality, can you have a healthy relationship when money comes in?
At the beginning of January, I did a fast with my church. I decided to take 3 weeks off from watching TV. When I came back to it, my daughter and I watched the new Netflix game show “The Trust”. I began to realize that most people who aren’t ready for big windfalls of money end up back in the same place of striving when they don’t know how to handle it.
The girl in the show Julie resonated with me. I saw her greed and pain. She didn’t understand that money is not the “end all” of happiness. Over time she learned that lying and deceiving did her no good.
You will never be happy with just money alone. It will make your life more comfortable in some ways, and bring problems in others. But, If you don’t respect money, you will never know how to handle it when that windfall comes in. You must always share your wealth. It is a gift. It is a blessing.
If you are in a position where you already have money and don’t trust anyone, start questioning the “why” and find some help! Nothing is more sad than someone who has money and is miserable with their life.
It’s time to place it in perspective.
