  • Vikings vs Redskins - GMG In The Raw!
Vikings vs Redskins… Good morning Horners! Enjoy the win, Baby! Your Minnesota Vikings are now 6-2 at the halfway point of the season. After an emotional game, the Good Morning Gjallarhorn crew recorded their post game reactions. Tighten those seat belts for this wild ride as Dave, Ted and Drew go at it over the Vikings performance. It is funny how people see the same game differently. A win is a win, getting the Vikes to 6-2, and as Ted asked, “who would have thought that after the Bears game?” The Washington Redskins came to US Bank Stadium and put up quite the effort, but failed against Minnesota Vikings at home. The final score was a Vikes victory of 19-9. A “W” is a “W” and the Vikings will take it.
Do you think Kirk Cousins regressed a bit? Do you think the O-line getting beat on some pass rushes contributed? Do think the penalty count, especially with all those holding calls could cost the team in the future? Does Stefon Diggs have a fumbling issue this season? Did Case Keenum hitting passes against Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes regularly bother you? Do you think this was an ugly, or at least semi-ugly win? Was it because of the short week? Was Mike Zimmer’s or Kevin Stefanski’s play calling pretty bland? Did they do that not to show their hand for the tougher games coming up? Those were just some of the questions addressed, and some quite vehemently. What is your take on the play?
The team now has 10 days to get ready for the trip to Kansas City. Hopefully any flaws spotted will be fixed. Not to worry though, there will be plenty of written and podcast content between now and then at the Daily Norseman.

We hope you have a great mini-bye, enjoy good friends, good times between now and the game at Kansas City, always good food and beverages, and GO VIKINGS! 6-2 baby!

  • Vikings vs Redskins - GMG Preview Show
Vikings vs Redskins… Good morning Horners! Looking ahead to tonight’s game, the guys break down some of the most intriguing storylines. As the Washington Redskins come into US Bank Stadium to take on your Minnesota Vikings, there is the former team motivation of Kirk Cousins, Case Keenum and Adrian Peterson, the Mike Zimmer being upset with his defensive play but loving the offense, and that lurking hangover of last season’s Buffalo Bills trap game results. None of us want to see that and Ted explains why we won’t, even if Adam Thielen is resting and not playing.
On this short week, the team with the best talent usually wins and that means the Vikings. Drew goes over the numbers to back this up too. The narrative is that the Vikes should win easily but will good or bad Kirk show up? It’s a prime time game and he will be amped. He has a history of streaky play, so will this start a marked decline? Even with a win, the detractors will say it isn’t against a good team. Not to worry, the next two against the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys with on the road will be that test. Does this season feel different to you?
Drew brings his Vikings vs Redskins trivia. There is a lot of golden information and memories from the 1976 Conference Championship to the 2017 game in FedEx Field where the same two quarterbacks battled previously. Then stay for the Ted Glover story at the end. You’ll like that deal!

We hope you have a great evening, enjoy good friends, good food and good beverages, and as always, GO VIKINGS!

  • Climbing the Pocket Network - At the Round Table - Ep 001
Tick tock, let’s go! The Climbing The Pocket Network hosts gathered for their first ever Round Table. Woot! They discussed your beloved Minnesota Vikings from all their different points of view and styles. You have Jayson Brown from the original Climbing The Pocket football podcast as host, Eric Eager [of PFF] and Nick Olsen from The Pocket Protectors Podcast, Flipmazzi from Fifteen Minutes with Flipmazzi, Ed Brodmarkle from The Skoldiers podcast, and David Stefano from Good Morning Gjallarhorn adding insight and producing.
The show opens with hosts describing Kirk Cousins’ play of the last few games. It literally has been historic in the terms of production and QB rating. Words like “MVP, Confident,” and “Ballin’!” were bandied about. Listen to the arguments for such high praise. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments.
Then a controversial subject was brought up. Would the Vikings be better off hiring Kevin Stefanski as head coach and let Mike Zimmer go? If the Vikings, and especially the offense continues having great success for the rest of the season, do you think the relatively young OC will be wooed to go be a head coach for some failing team firing their present one? What teams could those be? What could influence Stefanski to stay? Is it to early to be talking about this? Let’s just continue the success please!

We hope you enjoy this type of formatted show. Please feel free to ask questions and suggest topics for discussion in future Round Table shows. Have a great week, and as always, GO VIKINGS!

  • Vikings vs Lions - GMG In The Raw!
Vikings vs Lions… Good morning Horners! What a fantastic win and great way to start your week! Your Minnesota Vikings had their best offensive performance of the season defeating the Detroit Lions 42-30. Ted, Drew and Dave got together to discuss it right after the game. Kevin Stefanski called a brilliant game against Matt Patricia’s squad, Even though the first half was a back and forth affair, Kirk Cousins “willed” [as Ted put it] the Vikings to a win setting the Vikes now at 5-2 for the season and in a solid second place in the division. This being the last division road game, and with all three home games left on the schedule, things are looking better for their prospects to get to the playoffs, something Vikings fans all want.
Cousins was again outstanding for the third game in a row, throwing for 337 yard and 4TDs. Those touchdowns were spread around to Adam Thielen [on a superb catch in the back of the endzone], Kyle Rudolph, Bisi Johnson and C.J. Ham. Stefon Diggs had the biggest yards day with 142 receiving to add to that too. But the offense wasn’t all passes either, with Dalvin Cook having 142 yards and 2 TDs of his own on the ground and the team 166. The game calling was almost a perfect split between the run and pass working to near perfection against the Lions defense. The offensive line was a huge part of that keeping folks clean most of the time.
Matt Stafford had way too many yards [364] and made the game close for the first 3 quarters. The Vikings defense, and Xavier Rhodes in particular, allowed Marvin Jones to have his first 4 TD reception game of his career. On a day when the the defense wasn’t their normal stingy self, it didn’t matter because the offense made up for it. That is a nice thing to see and one that is unusual for a Mike Zimmer team to date. It is quite refreshing and bodes well for the future. All smiles and tons of laughs ahead on this short week as the team gets ready for the Washington Redskins at US Bank Stadium Thursday night. Prime Time Purple baby!

  • Vikings vs Lions - GMG Preview Show
Vikings vs Lions… Good morning Horners! Here is your Good Morning Gjallarhorn Preview Show. The Minnesota Vikings travel to battle the Detroit Lions for a noon central NFC North division contest. Both teams are 0-2 in the division and even though the outcome of the game may not preclude making the playoffs, it definitely make winning the less likely. That is why this game is important.
Kirk Cousins has come off two very good performances vs the Giants and Eagles where he has thrown for over 300 yards and cotton Stefon Diggs involved and producing. Will that continue? This game lines up to favor Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison and the run game with the Lions defense being the weakest against the run, but through previous action, the Honolulu Blue has also given up pass production. This game is looking to be one of those almost perfect splits between run and pass unless the Vikings jump out by 21 points. Kevin Stefanski should always start Kirk with some quick passes early to get his confidence up and in rhythm. He does that and the whole game plan opens up including Cook and Mattison having a big game.
Drew talks about how Matthew Stafford seems to be playing well and not making his “traditional” bone-head mistakes this season. Matt Patricia and Darrell Bevell indeed have him maxing out his abilities and minimizing his flaws, but the team has had some head scratching results either caused by their play or poor officiating. The Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night in what we saw as an extremely questionable officiated game. There are questions as to whether as fans, we’ll see “makeup calls” in this game? That is easy to take out of the equation though by the Vikings dominating and taking a big lead.
Ted knocks another round of Drew’s Trivia, Vikings and Lions edition, out of the park like Jared Allen chasing Dan Orlovsky outside of the endzone, and the show ends with a Don Glover story. Did you know that Ted wanted to be a US Marine? Neither did we. Plenty of laughs will get you going for this one.
We hope you’re ready for a great Sunday and as always, GO VIKINGS!

  • FMF 305 | Heat Check
It's Week 7 and our Minnesota Vikings are preparing for their final divisional road game. They head to Detroit to try to win their first divisional game after losing in Green Bay and Chicago. A tough one but thankfully, they're heating up.
Danielle Hunter, Everson Griffen, Eric Kendricks, Anthony Barr, Mackensie Alexander and Anthony Harris are ALL making plays for a Vikings defense that's starting to consistently display and elite form.
The kicking game with Dan Bailey and the rest of the Special Teams issues looks solve. Crossing our fingers here.
Kirk Cousins looks great, taking his play to a new level. That doesn't mean Kirk can do it all, but the Vikings can go far if he keeps it up with all the versatility at his fingertips. Gary Kubiak and Kevin Stefanski have all the weapons clicking. They can use Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Dalvin Cook, Alex Mattison, Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith Jr. with confidence.
So what makes the most sense for Detroit? This is a Dalvin Cook game. Maybe Irv Smith Jr. can break out too.
Quick injury updates: Riley Reiff and Ben Gedeon should be monitored this week. Josh Kline will hopefully be back for Week 7 after missing the game against Philadelphia.
    Other Good Games:
    Saints at Bears
    Ravens at Seahawks
    Eagles at Cowboys
But the main event is Minnesota at Detroit. Need the corner backs to show up for this one! Skol Vikes.
